18mi from Hamilton Barn Environmental Camp · 1 site · Tent, RVHawkhaven is a 9-acre mature redwood forest defined by a year-round creek where two species of salmon spawn. If you're quiet, you might see river otters, deer, foxes, great blue herons, wood ducks, turtles, mergansers, grebes, mink, rabbits, raccoons, opossums, and more.
The land is called Hawkhaven because a pair of peregrine falcons nest in the cliffs above the creek. In some seasons, you can see and hear them hunting and raising their young.
Bears occasionally wander through, so please store your food carefully.
If you visit during blackberry season, you're welcome to pick all the blackberries you want.
The Eel River is just 5 minutes away, and two beautiful beaches, Shelter Cove and Black Sands Beach, are about 45 minutes away (they look closer on the map than they actually are because the road winds quite a bit).
There is a good natural foods store in town, as well as two more traditional supermarkets.
Dogs are welcome as long as you clean up after them and don't allow them to chase wildlife.
Although the property itself is a wild forest, it is easy to access and located just off a paved road. The driveway is a bit rough, so larger RVs should proceed slowly. The campsites cannot be seen from the road.
One campsite receives some sun, one is in full shade, and two others offer a mix of sun and shade depending on the time of day. Summers here can be very hot, so the shade is a welcome relief.

There are no amenities here. This space is intended for completely self-sufficient Hipcampers seeking a truly rustic experience. There is no potable water or indoor space. A brand-new basic outhouse is available. Cell phone reception is possible but can be spotty. Because of the huge trees, you may need to walk up to the road to get a stronger signal.
There are no trash cans on-site. We ask that you pack out everything you bring in.
