The Ansley Wilcox Mansion in Buffalo, New York, served as Theodore Roosevelt's inauguration site in 1901. The brief ceremony was not one of pomp. Roosevelt had to improvise taking the Oath of Office because president William McKinley had been assassinated.
This Greek Revival home looks awesome on the outside. Six columns spanning two stories guard the entrance like sentinels. It almost looks like the White House, just on a smaller scale. Roosevelt walked softly but carried a big stick. So does the Ansley Wilcox Mansion.
The interior looks stately and relaxed. Visit the main exhibit area that describes the tragedy that happened in Buffalo. It also talks about what Roosevelt did for the United States as president. There are mock-ups of early electronic games (not the kind you play on cellphones).
