The natural feature of Padilla Ranch is it is located on the East slopes of the Manzano Mountain range and contains numerous pinon, junipers, pine and oakbrush trees that provide perfect environment for such wild life as elk and deer. The Tajique Creek runs through the Padilla Ranch & is generally a live stream and includes a dam which furnishes water for the Tajique acequia system (which is a historic irrigation system) . Padilla Ranch also contains numerous hiking trails, horseback riding trails nearby. The Manzano Mountain wildness is located approximately 7 miles west of Padilla Ranch in the Cibola National forest where in the Fall, there is a large maple, oak and aspen forest, which is one of the largest in the country. Spacious Wilderness camping is one of the most attractive features of Padilla Ranch for tent and other forms of outdoor camping.

NO. 10 RANCH

5 sites · Lodging40 acres · Estancia, NM
This cabin sits on a ranch that's been in this breathtaking valley for generations. There are six other amazing cabins spread throughout the 40 acres. We are only 14 miles from Manzano Mountains and about 31 miles from Salinas Pueblo Missions National Park. This particular cabin was once a pig barn and this ranch was once a fully operational ranch that served its owners and community so well. Wide open fields with grass that sways in the gentle breeze, pinon a cedar trees that provide cover to the deer that graze and bed down across the property and some of the most stunning views come together to create an experience that will stick with you an entire lifetime. 4WD is recommended to reach the cabin safely. We purchased this ranch in the winter of 2021 and are just so grateful for the chance to love and care for it...and share it with YOU! Provided there are not fire bans, enjoy snugging up to a warm campfire.

Camp Evenly Under The Stars

4 sites · RVs, Tents2 acres · Los Ranchos De Albuquerque, NM
I have a freshly leveled 2 acres 15 minutes away from the smaller side of Moriarty so you're food and shopping needs aren't far away! Don't let that trick you though light pollution is low around these areas so stars on a clear night are a sight to behold. Also enjoy the local wildlife such as cows, horses, rabbits, and coyotes; careful with that last one. And the roads are somewhat ready for all vehicles with at least a good 16 inches of clearance from the ground as there is some brush and just rather big holes. Exact coordinates will be provided upon booking and I am available for whatever questions there may be. RVS and campers are welcome but there are no hookups and the roads leading up can be a bit bumpy nothing to major but it's worth noting.

The Sherwood Escape

1 site · RV, Tent1 acre · Torreon, NM
Welcome to The Sherwood Escape, located in Sherwood Forest a residential subdivision created in the 1970's and nestled in the foot hills of the breath taking Manzano Mountains. This property boasts privacy as it is in a private subdivision where only land owners are allowed. This particular parcel is 1.36 acres in size. In 2008 the Trigo fire affected the parcel, but since then it has bloomed back beautifully with gamble oak tress and some juniper as well. The entrance of the subdivision is adjacent to the impeccably beautiful, scenic and notorious 4th of July Trail which is great for UTV's and dirt bikes as well as being in short distance of multiple trail heads. At the bottom of the road is the land grant of Torreon, and a few miles in each direction are more land grants and historic Spanish settlements, those being Tajique, Manzano, and Punta de auga. Highway 55 in which these settlements lay is also known as the Scenic Byway for the Salt Mission Trail. Multiple Ruins from the Spanish Salinas Pueblo Missions are within 10-20 mins from the campsite depending on which one is visited. There is Quarai located in Punta de Augua which is about 10 mins from the property, keep going another 10 mins into the also historic town of Mountainair which has a local market, Dollar General, dining locations and other things to see including the historic and haunted Shaffer Hotel. Mountainair is located where Highway 55 and 60 meet, and just a few minutes down highway 60 you will find the next ruin, Abo. Come and camp or bring your r/v to this vacant lot and enjoy what the Manzano Mountains have to offer. *DISCLAIMER* By agreeing to use this campsite anyone and all hereby waive, release and forever discharge Zachary Davis, its affiliates, managers, members, agents, attorneys, employees, staff, volunteers, heirs, executors, administrators, representatives, predecessors, successors and assigns from any claims resulting from physical or personal injury, pain, suffering, illness, disfigurement, temporary or permanent disability, loss or death, and any property damage that may occur caused by fire, theft, vandalism, water or land-related accidents, natural events or any other occurrences or mishaps. The best camping near Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument guide

Overview

About

Out in the middle of nowhere New Mexico, these well-preserved ruins tell the stories of ancient Native American pueblos and 17th-century Spanish missions. Three sites — Abó, Gran Quivira and Quarai — dominate this 1,112-acre historic monument. You'll drive about 85 miles to visit all three, so allow at least a half-day for this fascinating adventure.

Start with a short film at the National Parks headquarters in Mountainair. Head to the most-visited and desolate Abó ruins 9 miles west, or drive 8 miles north to the least-visited site of Quarai. Here in the foothills of the Manzano Mountains, you'll find a massive red brick mission with 40-feet-high walls built from sandstone. The imposing Spanish church is surrounded by long-abandoned outbuildings. Nearby grassy mounds hold the relics of ancient pueblo foundations.

The most extensive site is 26 miles further southeast at Gran Quivira. This huge mission complex lies next to a partially excavated multi-room pueblo village. All of these structures were abandoned in the late 1670s due to drought. The general remoteness of the grasslands of central New Mexico has left the remains in excellent condition.

Each of the three sites has a visitor center with interesting displays and a gift shop. Park Rangers and volunteers are on hand to educate and answer questions. These spectacular ruins were once home to the thriving trade communities of Tiwa and Tompiro-speaking Puebloans. Today they bear silent witness to the contacts and conflicts between the Native Americans and the 17th-century Spanish Franciscan priests who hoped to bring them Christianity.

Plan your visit in the cooler seasons. There's not a lot of shade at Abó or Gran Quivira, so summers can be toasty. View all nearby options for camping on both public campgrounds and private land by diving deeper on Hipcamp.
