We had an amazing weekend glamping experience at Sara’s site. Plenty of space, beautiful views and peaceful atmosphere. It was fully booked but it didn’t affect anything at all. In fact, we enjoyed chatting to our neighbours (all other 4 tents around us). All the facilities were well maintained during our stay. Sara was such a great host! She’s very patient and welcoming. Gave us a lovely introduction upon arrival and a lot of great recommendations regarding places to visit during our stay also popular restaurants to go around the area. We really enjoyed the pub she recommended. All the sightseeing was great too! We also met her daughter who’s a lovely gorgeous kind young lady and enjoyed chatting to her each time. All in all, we were very happy with our stay and would love to come back again. Thank you very much Sara for making our stay so amazing! Will definitely recommend to anyone who’s interested.

What a great little spot! The woods are cute and quiet, with some nice fire pits and an amazing sunset over the field. Plenty of pubs in walking distance or a short drive if you don’t want to cook. Jon was a friendly host and happily showed me around the woods. Would absolutely recommend if you’re looking for a quick weekend camp near London.

Stunning place, a Really a lovely find. Myself and my children had a wonderful time here and didn’t want to leave. Toilets and shower facilities were clean, the “beach” and stream was lovely and kept my little ones happy all day. Lots of open space, we could choose where we pitched our tent. Animals were great to have around, kids loved how cheeky they were with the food! Daughter loved feeding the horses. We borrowed fire pit too and were able to get wood from the forrest which was. It was a really lovely wholesome, relaxed weekend. Will be returning! Thank you:)

We had a lovely 2 night stay in the woodland. It felt secluded and was very peaceful. It’s a great off grid site with lots of great spots to pitch up in the trees or the meadow. Jon was very nice snd helpful, provided us with a wheel barrow to help shift our camping gear and even carried a few bits himself as we walked and talked about the land and his journey managing the farm. We really felt like had ‘got away from it all’ for a few days, we loved it and will be back.

Weekend Trip to Cuckoo Farm Campsite

We went in our campervan last year and the camp had about 12 units. We’ve just returned from a few nights there over the weekend and was a little shocked at the sheer numbers on site. Manager said that they were expecting 120 to arrive on the Friday. Bearing in mind that no caravans are allowed, the majority were tents with a lot of children with no shower or toilets. 2 men’s toilets and 3 showers for that amount of people was clearly not enough and so queuing was a bit of an issue. We left on the Monday as did a lot of the units and it was therefore tranquil again. I would return but only midweek and out of school holidays.

I went for one night and it was so calm and relaxing . The site has only 1 toilet and spring water from the hose which was very nice . The site has no washing up facility’s or showers. A find the price £28 pp a bit expensive and being pp not 2 sharing for an off grid no facility site. Overall Beautiful and I will return with some friends. Very clean site .

Jon is a really welcoming, accommodating and conscientious host. We strung up hammocks in the woodlands, which meant we got to wake up with the natural sunlight to the beautiful sound of the birds. There are some wonderful farm animals, including some adorable pigs and rather inquisitive sheep! The lack of running water is a slight drawback, however it is made clear in the listing and we came prepared with plenty of water.

The location is very nice. Bit tight for manoeuvring the vehicle around, but once in place, really nice. Fire pit and ash pan available at each pitch which worked really well. Was a windy weekend but the pitches offer very good protection from the winds. Toilets looked fine and the little wash up sink is more than adequate. Owner turned up a couple of time to check that everyone was ok and if any wood was required, good attention to the campers.

When to go

Summer is peak season at Wicken Fen, and the boardwalks can get crowded, especially on weekends and school holidays. Some of the best wildlife-watching opportunities are in springtime, while increased rainfall through autumn and winter makes the wild landscapes appear even more dramatic. The reserve is open year-round, but boat tours and bike rentals are only available from Easter through October.

Know before you go

Wicken Fen is located in Cambridgeshire, about a 40-minute drive from Cambridge.
There’s no public transport to the park, but trains run to Ely, a 20-minute taxi ride away.
The reserve has restrooms, a café, and a visitor centre. Bike rental is available, but advance booking is recommended.
There is an entrance fee to visit the reserve, as well as a parking fee.
The boardwalks are accessible for wheelchairs, but advance booking is recommended as access can be tricky at busy times.
