Our 10 acres of orchard and meadow includes 500 trees planted a few years ago. Our land is teeming with insects, butterflies and more. We regularly see red kites, buzzards, owls and other wildlife. You can also take part in wild food forays, natural history walks and other activities on site, led by Adrian Boots who took Mary Berry foraging on Countryfile and taught the late, great Terry Wogan about wild food on TV. Our aim is to share our beautiful and idyllic location as well as our passion for the countryside, sustainability, natural history, wild food and cookery with you. Adrian, an ecologist, is passionate about wild food and enjoying the fruits of the ‘quiet hunt’. Rather than just teaching a list of wild foods, he enjoys helping people understand the connections between habitat and species so that they develop a more holistic understanding of wild food within the context of the landscape, and our fundamental relationship with food and the natural world. Renee looks after our guests to ensure they have a memorable stay and want for nothing. She can often be found turning Adrian’s foraged finds into delicious dishes and preserves. We believe that the experiences we have, and the memories we create, last far longer than ‘things’. Life is for living and experiencing. In the past 15 or so years over 25,000 visitors - families, friends, individuals and corporate groups – have stayed with us or learnt something new on an activity, as well as having lots of fun!

These ponds once served the Oakhill Brewery. Stout was first brewed in the village of Oakhill in 1767, using water which comes down from the Mendip Hills. In the 18th century Oakhill Stout was thought to have ‘magical‘ healing properties. Now you can take a dip in these waters. The beady-eyed can spot kingfisher, heron, buzzard, kite, cormorant & much more in the way of wildlife. Walled garden guests have access to this larger site in the afternoons, between 1pm and 5pm. The retreat site is not suitable for young children. Coming soon: Don't miss the uniqueness of the pop-up off-grid spa with horse-trailer sauna, wood-fired hot tub and treatment tent.
