Weekend Trip to Pytingwyn Woods

My 8 year old loves making dens and bases and has heard about wild camping that my wife and I used to do and wanted to do some himself. Since he isn’t quite up to a proper expedition at his age I went looking for a campsite where we could give him a taste of it and found this place. We camped in the woods within a few metres of the river. We cooked over fires and slept under a tarp shelter between trees, boiled water from the river and in his eyes lived in the wilderness for a couple of days. Just what we were after.

7 nights at Old Litten

I don’t know the words to recommend this site more! Charlotte is a superb host, she met us on site when we arrived and gave us a tour of the whole site. She was fantastic with the children and made sure they found the swing which they spent a lot of the week on. We stayed for 7 nights in this slice of heaven and were never disturbed. Charlotte messaged to check we were okay half way through the week. Absolutely beautiful scenery from our front window looking out across the valley. The walks through the Ashford hangers really get your legs working. So many great pubs to choose from as well, but you must check out the Cricketers on a Wednesday night with their stone oven pizzas! All the items you need for a fantastic back to nature stay here and we will be coming back for sure! Thank-you for an amazing holiday!

We really enjoyed our stay at Four Winds - the pitch was level, good sized and clean. Showers and toilets were well maintained. Great access to the river and the little shop onsite provides snacks/drinks. Pizza on Friday night was a hit!

We loved our time there. Beautiful view. Family friendly. Good communication. Very close to cider farm, castles and ice cream farm so a very good spot for us. Have to plan for no shower on site but that adds to the fun.

This land provides seasonal hire of a rural grassland non electric pitch situated within one of the site’s plots. Staying opposite to the long-established, Grade II-listed pub is certainly a big perk to staying down here. The pub serves traditional pub grub as well as light lunches from only a tenner, so you’ll have somewhere nice to eat out. Another big pull is the scenery over the surrounding hills. Never leave any fires unattended and ensure they are completely extinguished when finished. Wipe your feet prior to entering the Bell tents to remove any coal that may have become attached. Cars/vehicles: Cars and vehicles can be on the field but should move minimally and always under 5mph. Car stereos should not be used for music entertainment. Drugs and Alcohol: Drug use is prohibited, and violators will be asked to leave. Consume alcohol responsibly, and do not drive or move your vehicle after consuming alcohol. We do not typically book Large non-family groups unless they are seeking a calm and peaceful stay. These groups must have authorization prior to the visit.
