Glamping pods, Scandinavian lodges and first-class camping and caravanning in 25-acre's of Herefordshire countryside, covered by pockets of woodland

Who needs a playground when you’ve got a pond? That seems to be the attitude at Woodside Country Park, where the focus is more on camping’s natural pleasures than installing a raft of artificial flimflam. The result is a 25-acre space that’s covered by pockets of woodland and no fewer than nine different ponds. In the summer, the largest, Cider Mill Pool, is a central convening point for families as children hurl themselves from a small jetty and dabble like oversized ducks among its waters. It’s a scene more reminiscent of rural France than middle England.

Yet rural is certainly what Woodside Country Park is. Despite being just two miles from the amenities of Ledbury, this is a real countryside site with excellent views and a peaceful, partially ‘wild’ ambience. It really is a ‘country park’, home to over 500 native water plants, trees and shrubs, planted alongside swathes of wild flowers, giving colour and variety all year round. As well as swimming, kids will love dipping around in the smaller ponds for insects and bugs (you can even buy a net in reception) and looping trails among the trees provide great bird spotting opportunities.

Camping-wise the site has something for everyone. Weather worriers who want to travel light can pluck for one of their wooden camping pods or a bed in the large, bunkhouse. The former, nestled among tall pine trees, are simply furnished (bring your own bedding and camping gear) but are well insulated and spacious, featuring a heater, double plug socket and lighting. The bunkhouse, meanwhile, also features a dining and cooking area, with five different rooms each sleeping up to four people. They’re more functional than luxurious – cosy indoor options particularly popular during the winter months – but are a wonderfully handy option if you don’t fancy pitching a tent.

Out in the open, there are two different camping meadows, situated either side of a country lane that runs through the middle of the park. Near the pods, Orchard Field has room for just 9 pitches, well spread out and all with electricity, while over the road the larger camping meadow (near the swimming pond) is geared more towards tent campers, with space for 50 pitches with electrical hook ups and 8 pitches without electric. It creates a field coloured by canvas and campervans – a classic camping vibe, aided by views across the pond to rolling fields, climbing into the hills around Hereford 10 miles to the east.

The sheer size of the place means much of the day can be spent on site. In the woods the most gargantuan trees house fairies, with tiny doors to be discovered among the roots, and in a far corner of the site yet more pools are accompanied by picnic benches in a designated conservation area. Along the opposite perimeter of the park, meanwhile, the long distance Herefordshire Trail runs. It’s an excellent route that skirts the county and is just one of the reasons the site is so popular with walking groups – along with the nearby Malvern Hills. If you’re still in need of ideas the reception hut has a big stash of brochures, too. So there really is no excuse not to get out there!

Definitely going again.
Nice place, lake and climbing frame keep it interesting for the kids. Only downside is the shower was falling apart and seemed to be set at 'nuclear armageddon' temperature.

Pod life
I loved the pod it was peaceful and in a lovely spot close by to Ledbury town center but far away enough to feel secluded with a lake nearby and walks. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for some time away in a pretty location!

Perfect Pod!
Woodside Country Park is in a great location. Very close to Ledbury for shops/restaurants. Land was very nice and well kept. Facilities were extremely clean and in numerous quantity around the site. The pod we stayed in (in the December cold snap) was clean and extremely warm. Was nice to have had the heating on and warming up for us before our arrival! The site is easy to find and the directions provided were extremely clear and useful. The staff we spoke to were very pleasant and made us feel very welcome on site. Thank you for a lovely stay!

Great site
A very pretty site and very friendly too. Rosemary the donkey and Dave the human were both a delight. Easy to pitch up and plug in the van. Great facilities for my slightly fussy son who played under the starry sky and enjoyed a campfire. Would definitely become a regular.

Enjoyed a fantastic sunny weekend with friends. We spent most of the break canoeing in the lake. Even had a go fishing and caught a whopper. We loved the campsite, which although fully booked didn't feel overcrowded. The staff were lovely and the toilets and showers very clean. We would love to come back again.

Away from it all, silence
Beautiful place, lovely toilets, chemical disposal, freshwater top up, all new & well kept. Lovely lady met up at reception to check in & tell us where to go. Road up to site is extremely narrow with few passing points, we have very large motor home so dicey in places. Definitely recommend 👌

Non-EHU Pitch - Cidermill
We stayed at this fantastic campsite this weekend (March 19th-20th 2022). The owners gave us a friendly greeting and a brilliant map of the campground and it's facilities, showed us to our pitch and left us to enjoy our weekend. Located in a wonderful countryside setting with fabulous views and a super quiet, rural spot. The views of the lake and woodland surrounding the site are great at any time of year. Facilities We took a non-electric pitch as we're in a campervan however there is plenty of room for camper vans and tents in the Cidermill field. We picked a quiet weekend at the beginning of the season so pretty much had the whole field to ourselves. The toilet and shower blocks are some of the best we've seen at a campsite. There are 8 or so cubicles, each with their own shower, toilet and sink, giving lots of privacy. They were extremely clean. There are facilities for washing up, drinking water (multiple points around the site), bins and blue and grey waste disposal sites. There is a small shop where you can collect a fire pit and extra logs, along with some marshmallows, crisps and sweets. I think it shuts at 5pm though, so make sure you're organised, it's quite a walk to the nearest local shop. Location Set on the side of some beautiful woodland and opening out onto a lakeside, this site is a great example of how countryside camping should be be. Very quiet at night (10pm cut off for noise), with no roadhouse, so quiet in fact that you get to hear the local owls calling to each other. The morning bird chorus is also wonderful here. Also, owing to it's rural location the skies at night are very dark and is a great spot for views the stars. If you're keen eyed you might even spot the odd rabbit running around the site too. The site is located about 1.5 miles from Ledbury town centre, which makes for a fair walk. however if you take bikes it's actually a fairly nice easy ride into town (not too hilly, apart from the last 500 yards into town).

Family Pod
We have just returned from a two night stay at Woodside country park. What an amazing find we loved it, first time in a pod and what a difference it makes to your whole camping experience, the benefit of a heater and light just changes everything, we are converted no having to mess atriums with a tent just put your beds up and your done!! I would recommend camp-beds rather than just blow up mattresses if your planning to stay in the cold months as you do feel the cold coming through the floor but if your off the floor it’s cosy and toasty, we had to turn the heating down at one point. The toilet and shower block is right on your doorstep which is great for those early hours trips, this also has washing machine and dryer in. The area the pods are situated is ideal for kids as no cars coming past so they can explore (inquisitive 8yr old). There is onsite fishing which hubby and son loved, fire pits availible to rent and logs sold in the reception. A beautiful setting with lovely views, definitely recommend this place for families. Oh and we loved the woodpeckers😊

Electric Pitch - Cider Mill
We stayed here for a weekend in November with a rented campervan. It was easy to get to and find. The site has lots of mostly flat grass spots to hook up and the facilities were clean and cosy. As personal taste I am glad we were here when we were because there weren't too many people here, but given the number of spots I can see it could be very busy in peak times. But that's a person preference. It is a lovely rural setting and the dog enjoyed sniffing around the ponds and whatnot.

Friendly welcome on arrival. Lovely and peaceful and plenty of space at this time of year. Great for walks with the dog. Facilities were great and very clean. We loved being able to use the firepit too. The only downside for us was an irresponsible dog owner letting his pugs approach people and on lead dogs (he claimed his dog was under control but from the minute they arrived all we heard was 'Peggy come here' as she charged across the field). We will definitely be back but hopefully won't meet Peggy again!

Great well organized campsite with a number of different pitching options. Beautiful lake and conservation area. Clean toilets and hot showers. Easy walk to Ledbury which is a great market town with some really old buildings. Market house Café in Ledbury has some lovely food as did "The nest" an independent deli and café about a mile away from the campsite.

From the host
Come and visit our picturesque, family friendly 28 acre site for camping, caravanning, pods and bunkhouse, also with 10 Scandinavian lodges nestled around the site. An abundance of wildlife can be spotted, with fishing and wild swimming also available. Despite being just two miles from the amenities of Ledbury, this is a real countryside site with stunning views and plenty of walks and thing to do nearby.  If you are interested in booking a group in a range of our accommodation then please see our website or get in touch.  We can't wait to welcome you here.
Nearby attractions

The surrounding area boasts some stunning cycling and walking trails – the picturesque Malvern Hills and the Forest of Dean among them. There is plenty to do such as canoe hire, Newbridge farm park, and the beautiful Eastnor castle (please check site for opening times) There is also plenty to do onsite for example, pond dipping, wild water swimming and fishing. We also have walks nearby and the stunning conservation area perfect for children to explore and dogs to run free.

Food and drink

Your best bet is to head the 2 miles to Ledbury, where there's a wide selection of independent pubs and restaurants some that even deliver to Woodside. We have a list of recommendations such as the Talbot and the prince of wales but on arrival please ask reception and we will be happy to help. There is also a good Local farm shop called The Nest which is 1 mile away or, for something different, you can visit Weston’s Cider.
