If you’re lucky, you’ll catch at least one of the breathtaking sunsets at Red Sky at Night Campsite near Monmouth. If not, there’s always a stunning view of rolling hills all around. At night, the skies become a dazzling canvas of stars under one of Wales' official Dark Sky Reserves. This family-run camping field on our laid-back livestock farm is full of rustic charm. Pitch wherever feels right—tent or camper van. Dogs welcome but must always be kept on a lead and cleaned up after (dog waste bin on site, otherwise we are a leave no trace site and you should take your rubbish home with you). This year, we’re introducing the “Missing Camper Trail” hidden in the woodland—can you find Colin? You’ll also find a new zip line and a slackline for adventurers big and small. Mud Café and den building are still here, along with teddy bears scattered through the woods—no official trail, just hidden friends to find. Also new this season - a handcrafted washing-up area built by Farmer Ben from wood right off our farm. Coming soon: We’re hoping for showers this season, but we’ll update when they’re up and running. Wild camping here means no electricity—just two lovely compost loos and a covered cold-water tap. So bring your guitar, light a fire, and soak up the simplicity... The way camping was intended.

Had a lovely weekend, low density camping lots of room between each pitch. We stayed in the upper meadow with wonderful views and fantastic walks very nearby…some are very steep….This is wild camping with compost loos, I love that you use a wheelbarrow to transport your camping equipment from your car and the site is effectively car free….We took our black lab and he was very chilled here, laying in the long grass. Fire-pits are provided, perfect for marshmallow s’mores .we will go back again

Such a lovely campsite, the views are stunning and all the facilities just perfect! 😊 Especially the hot shower, fridge and kettle which was exactly what I needed being someone who doesn't have much of the camping gear. The wildflowers meadows look fabulous despite the dry summer. It's clear the owners have put lots of effort in maintaining these wild spaces! Great to have lots of info of nearby pubs and places to visit too. Really amazing stay! Absolutely recommend it!

What an amazing stay we had in the black mountains at Crmffrwd Farm. It’s feels as though you’re in the middle of nowhere, but yet close to Crickhowell, a great little town with places to drink and eat and of course Abergavenny. Pridie is the perfect host, who makes everyone feel welcome. This is our third visit to Crmffrwd farm and we will definitely be back.

Adored staying at Noxon Farm. The site was cosy and quiet, with everything we needed. Easy to find and pleasantly surprised on the farm having a pond. The facilities were great quality without being too ‘commercial’ and stayed true to the natural feel of the site. Surrounded by beautiful woods, and easy access to great locations and shops / pubs nearby. The site was sociable and family friendly, with a fire pit, bbqs and festoon lighting, the whole camp felt so welcoming. Would love to stay again.

This site is an absolute gem, wild camping at its best with views to die for. Not only was the wildflower meadow maintained beautifully, but the ability to chose your own spot, and your own view was perfect. On one side you have sunrise and the other is sunset. The Black Mountain (which is an easyish 30 minute hike) provides the backdrop and the views out over England and wales are just jaw dropping. Proximity to Hay on Wye is excellent and our dogs and kids as well as us loved every moment in this epic campsite. Thank you to Ross for arranging all we needed at the last minute and for being such a relaxed and effective host - we will be back! Suz, Ralph, Isla, Jonah, Bodhi dog and Tiri pup 😊

We stayed at Bushcrafter camp at Oak, Ash & Thorn and had a great evening. The site is not as much of a walk as expected, and is lovely and quiet, enough so that the large birthday group who were occupying one of the other camps didn't disturb us at all. Both Bo, and Skip who showed us around, were lovely to deal with. The only slight negative was it was a bit of a walk to reach the toilets, and I'd recommend locating them the first time in the daylight... I got a bit lost in the dark the first time looking but we found it eventually! Would happily stay here again!

I very much liked the individual mown pitches, so you are assured of space between other campers, cos that's what we come for. I thought it was a well thought out campsite. Appreciated the washing up sinks and hand wash outside the compost loos. Call me weird but I enjoy the peace of compost loos. No water running, high powered hand driers blowing or somebody making strange noises in the adjoining shower. Add to that really close sightings of a red Kite and awesome views, top notch!
