The campsite lies within seventeen acres on the slope of The Kent Downs, a designated area of natural beauty. The Alma ale house at the edge of the farm serves Shepherds Neame and hot meals all year round. Two acre quiet cherry orchard site based around a Tudor Manor house 1547 that gives its name to our village. Surrounded by orchards and open countryside but within easy reach of Faversham, Whitstable and Canterbury. A wealth of little shops, cafes and pubs as well as the country’s oldest family owned brewery Shepherd Neame. Whitstable sitting just along the coast, famed for its Oysters and Sunsets is a fun beachside community bustling in the summer months and hauntingly bleak in the winter ones. The World Heritage sites of Canterbury are just a fifteen minute trip away with all its well documented history and plentiful shops and eateries.

First of al Mark is a real gentleman and a great man. We stayed as wel in the granery as in the treehouse. Both are realy beautiful places to stay. The granary has more luxure and specialy the woodburner in wintertime is lovely. The treehouse is les luxery but a great cosy place to spend the night.

Mark is a gentleman. His property is lovely. The tree house is very cool. The walk into Elham is only 20 min. My girlfriend and I commuted from London to Marks property without a car. It was more than doable, £25 taxi from Folkestone west train station . Just mentioning this in case other carless people are hesitant. There is an electric cooler, I wish I brought a steak to throw on the fire. Great speaker in the tree house. Even in November with high winds we were warm. Thanks again Mark!

Facilities are great: shower and loos are immaculate, fire pits available to rent and wood to buy, pub in walking distance, and even home pizzas nights at the weekend. Location is great too, we will definitely be back!

We arrived on a Sunday, the very last day of Summer hols for most people and there was absolutely no other campers. As it was only myself and my son, we thought it might be disappointing with no life...but it was great. Sheenagh and Wayne, who run the farm were super friendly and gave me loads of info. The cafe opened every morning, and locals came by and it all came to life, plus we had great coffee and a lovely breakfast. One of the locals, I think his name was Nick, was practicing herding sheep with his dog and told us all about it, which was really interesting. Lastly, the showers, in an old horse box, were fantastic, just what you need at the end of the day. All in all, a great stay and highly recommend.

The field is big with lots of space, each pitch has an allocated area. The toilets, showers and other facilities look new and are very clean. Seems very well run and the guy who runs it was very friendly and helpful when I arrived. Close to the small village of Shepardswell which has a coop and a pub. They have a no music policy, so you can expect tranquility.

Weekend Trip to Plum Camping in May Tree Orchard

This is a beautiful and quiet place to camp. We had a group of families, had our own space in the orchard that felt very separated from other groups. The location is peaceful with a beautiful view. The toilets were clean and well maintained, and we loved the solar shower looking into the woods. Natasha and Nick were incredibly welcoming and always available for any needs, and their kitten Little Cat was adorable. The site had table tennis, some other games, and lovely walks around it. The local pub did a great dinner. We'll be back!

This was a wonderful place - a really idyllic setting and superb shepherd’s hut. Super cosy with its own secluded area and kitchen with everything you need. The orchard is beautiful, Natasha and Nick have done amazing job in making this a really special place. One of our favourite ever UK stays!

Weekend Trip to Plum Camping in May Tree Orchard

Puns aside, we enjoyed a really unique and magical two nights here, sleeping between the apple trees and enjoying the incredible skies above. The owners were as sweet and lovely as the Apple juice, and the solar shower was a brilliant experience, tucked away and private from the campsite, but open plan and facing the woodland behind. We shall be back!

Loved the campsite! It had Basic amenities like compost toilet, hot shower, drinking water tap and the bonus was a lovely cafe. We stayed for 2 nights but mostly had activities booked around Folkestone harbour which is only 15 min by car.

We had a truly wonderful stay in the Granary! Mark is the loveliest host we have ever met. Everything felt so genuine and welcoming. The cabin had everything we could possibly need, and the bed was extremely comfortable. Even though I am heavily pregnant, climbing up was no problem at all as the ladder is very sturdy 🌝 We loved our cosy evenings by the fire and sunny breakfasts in the little garden, enjoying Mark’s delicious homemade bread and jam. The setting is green, peaceful, and full of good vibes with friendly little robins, cats and dogs keeping us company. We also enjoyed lovely walks in the area, a visit to the nearby village, and a tasty meal at the local pub. It was exactly the perfect getaway we were hoping for. Thank you so much, Mark, for your generosity and warm hospitality!

Where to go

North Sea Coast

Herne Bay and Whitstable are two of Kent’s most popular beach resorts, both less than a half-hour drive from Canterbury. Swim and sunbathe on the pretty pebble beaches, hire out a traditional painted beach hut, or tuck into Whitstable oysters at a seafront restaurant. To the west, the Isle of Sheppey is a favourite among campers, and its sandy beaches fill up with holidaymakers in the summer months.

South Coast

East of Canterbury, sea-cliff walks and windswept beaches tempt adventurers to the English Channel coast. Margate, Ramsgate, or Broadstairs beaches are surf hotspots, and further south, the White Cliffs of Dover are among the UK’s most iconic natural wonders. Laid-back Folkestone makes a picturesque choice for summer campers, with its long sandy beach, while bird-watchers flock to the nearby Romney Marshes.

Kent Downs

Just south of Canterbury, the rolling hills and farmlands of the Kent Downs AONB are responsible for Kent’s nickname: the Garden of England. Hike through ancient woodlands and wildflower meadows, take in the views from the Devil's Kneading Trough, or go cycling or horseback riding through Perry Wood. Along the way, stop for lunch at rural village pubs, enjoy wine tasting at local vineyards, and pitch your tent at quiet campsites far from the crowds.

When to go

Canterbury fills up with day-trippers in July and August—plan an early start to beat the crowds at top attractions if visiting at this time. Spring and autumn are ideal for sightseeing, with fewer crowds and mild weather. Springtime is particularly beautiful in Kent, when the bluebell woods and wildflower meadows are in full bloom. There are options for winter campers too, when Canterbury pulls out all the stops for the festive season.

Canterbury has several camping and outdoors stores where you can pick up everything you need for your camping trip.
Canterbury has public transport links to many of Kent’s towns and beaches, but it is handy to have your own transport, especially if staying at rural campsites.
Most campsites require advance booking, and many ask for full payment upfront. Check opening dates, as some campsites close in the winter months.
Wild camping is illegal throughout Kent.
