Met by James, who’s a very nice fella. I messaged ahead to ask if we could turn up an hour earlier, if the pitch wasn’t busy, and this wasn’t a problem. Nice pitch that was flat with good, clean toilet facilities. A fabulous area which took us on a walk to Castleton and back via Cavedale, which our dog loved. Back at the site, a step through the wall and you’re at the Devonshire Arms pub. We didn’t have a meal there but had great breakfast sandwiches that they serve in the morning. We were there at the weekend, so not sure of opening times in the week.

I stayed for 2 nights in my camper with my dog. I was so lucky to have this site all to myself on the first night, and was treated to the most beautiful sunset across the wild flower field. Loved the eco-friendly toilet and shower set up, and Jessamy was super fast to check in and provide information, and to come to my rescue after managing to dislodge the shower! A really lovely spot, perfectly located for visiting Hafren Forest and a stones throw from the lovely town of Llanidloes.

Lovely quiet and well kept site. Would definitely recommend. Nice and peaceful location with private pitches for tourers and a large fairly flat field for camping. The dog walking field was an added bonus. 2x toilets and 2x showers for male and female visitors - were clean and modern. Washing up facilities and our touring pitch had electric and water. All good - would stay again. Good location for visiting different attractions and plenty of places to eat nearby.

Nestled between the Western Lake District Fells and the Irish Sea coast this site is situated on a working dairy and sheep farm. Farm tours can be arranged on arrival. A play hut with outdoor games, drying room with communal fridge and freezer (some units have their own small fridge). Natural hedges surround the site. Four fruit trees near the shower block Half a mile to Gosforth village with Shop, Bakery, Cafe, 4 Pubs providing food and an Italian restaurant. Gosforth and Seascale villages have play parks. Muncaster Castle, Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, Wasdale, Scafell Pike and Sandy Beaches with Cafes selling local ice cream are nearby with most Lake District attractions within an hours drive and Edinburgh a three hour drive away. There are 5 campervan/motorhome pitches, a pod, a modern take on a shepherds hut with underfloor heating, a heated pod and two gypsy caravans with electricity to book. All pitches are on gravel positioned to enjoy views over farmland to Scafell Pike and other fells, they are surrounded by grassy areas with seating and a picnic table. A wooden play hut has outdoor games and toys inside. Awnings can be added on the 3 larger pitches. Tents can be pitched next to units for an extra £10 per night. Barbeques are allowed on gravel with our Gypsy Caravans having a campfire area. There is a communal fridge and freezer, outdoor drying space. Farm tours can be arranged. Wildlife and farm animals can be seen in the surrounding fields. Fresh vegetables and barbeque packs can be ordered with 24 to 48 hours notice. Grocery deliveries accepted from supermarkets. There is also a holiday cottage on the farm sleeping 6 over two rooms. Situated midway between the Western Lake District Fells and the Irish Sea Coast makes this site ideal for lower or higher level walks. Sandy beaches at Seascale and St Bees have cafes selling locally made ice cream alongside play areas to keep children happy. Scafell England's highest mountain is close by as are a number of Wainwrights. Nearby is Muncaster Castle and Gardens with its Hawk and Owl Centre, also Ravenglass (a Roman port with remains of a bath house),  you can ride up the Eskdale Valley on the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway (Laal Ratty). Perhaps take a stroll to Stanley Ghyll waterfall. They have a cafe at both terminuses with a museum in Ravenglass where nearby you can sample Ravenglass Ice Cream. Wasdale and Ennerdale are close by both valleys having cafes and pubs.

If the answer is fair to middling, Damside Campsite might just be the place for you: this pop-up spot is surrounded by the glorious wilderness of Peak District National Park. Coed Obry is a 5.5 acre private woodland on the edge of Snowdonia National Park. It has its own private gated access from the road and a 50m track leads from the A 4085 to a small car park for 5 vehicles. Paths lead from there to the caravan, bunkhouse, camping areas. The notice board in the car park provides visitors with maps, photos and information about the wood, and there are laminated maps showing the routes of around 30 local walks which visitors are welcome to borrow during their stay. Canoe, kayaks and paddle boards are available to hire in Coed Obry and there are several fire pits with seasoned firewood for sale. There is no mains water so visitors are requested to bring their own drinking water, but rain water harvesting systems provide water for washing. Nearby there are several outstanding beaches within 1-3 miles and there is good access to the mountains of Snowdonia; the Afon Dwyryd provides an excellent sheltered river/estuary for canoeing and paddle boarding; the slate quarries and tourist attractions of Blaenau Ffestiniog, rock climbing at Tremadog (2 miles); spectacular waterfalls at Croesor (1 mile); the Ffestiniog Narrow Gauge Railway (0.5 miles); the Glaslyn Osprey Centre (1 mile); several shops, restaurants, hostelries and Spar shop in Penrhyndeudraeth (1 mile); three large supermarkets and a regional shopping centre in Porthmadog (2.5 miles).

Small, quiet family-run site in the Peak District National Park A 15-minute drive from Buxton, the Pennine Way and Monsal Trail Pet-friendly pub five minutes’ walk away; barbecues permitted on site Fields Farm Campsite is just the place for a peachy Peak District break. Just outside of a rural village named Peak Forest in the national park, this site is a walkers’ haven, with the Pennine Way and Monsal Trail just 15 minutes’ drive away (along with Buxton, a classic Peak District town with a spa history, meaning you can pamper yourself on this day out). Handily, there are walks direct from the door too. You can get to Eldon Hole in just over 10 minutes and dubbed one of the seven wonders of the Peak District, the pothole is an impressive sight. Peak Forest is just five minutes’ walk away too and here, you’ll be able to sample some homecooked food in a pet-friendly traditional country pub. Adjacent to the owner’s home, the grassy pitches have scenic views of the countryside (a great side dish for breakfast times, that’s for sure). And in the evenings, perhaps a barbecue will be another way to settle into the rural atmosphere. Happily, dogs are permitted here, so you won’t have to leave them behind.
