Stretching from the wooded banks of the Arkle Beck, up to the dizzying heights of Fremington Edge, our site is a wonderfully biodiverse and off-the-beaten path spot, offering adventure-loving families and small groups the chance to unplug completely, and get a taste of no-frills camping, the way mother nature intended. What's more, every booking is for exclusive use of the camping area by you and your group, guaranteeing you a truly unique (and undisturbed) experience. Why Heggs? Get a taste of 'wild-camping' with a few bare bones facilities: Pitch up where you like, make the most of a private firepit cooking area, and enjoy our compost loo with a view. Our remote, no-frills site is the perfect intro to simple living; yet sits close enough to 'civilisation' to hike out for picnic supplies, and/or a pub dinner. Reconnect with nature through wholesome, unplugged activities: Fill your days with poo sticks, pebble skimming, and foraging for kindling. Spend your evenings playing scrabble by torchlight, identifying owl calls, and marvelling at the constellations in our Dark Skies conservation area. No wifi = no distractions. Explore endless routes right from the doorstep: Arkengarthdale is one of the Dales' most beautiful yet undiscovered valleys. Multiple bridleways and footpaths connect Heggs to Reeth and Langthwaite, running along both sides of the Arkle Beck, and up the slopes of Fremington Edge. Part of the adventure is getting here: Our walk/cycle-in-only camping area is all part of the magic of our tucked-away site. Free bag transfer is available to our farmhouse from the nearest public parking in Reeth or Langthwaite (40 mins walk), and the camping area lies a further 200m along a rough grass track. (Please note we cannot accept campervans or trailer tents). Every stay plants trees, literally: All profits from nearly-wild camping support our ongoing habitat restoration as part of the Heggs-Castle renaturing cluster. What's included/provided with my booking? -Exclusive use of the camping area for you and your group (up to a max of 8 people), including compost loo and firepit with grill. -Access to weatherproof cow byre HQ for storage of camping equipment, including bikes. -1 x wheelbarrow load of firewood, with kindling and natural firelighters (more can be bought on site). -Unlimited potable water in canisters with taps. -Large Ghillie Kettle, firepit cooking utensils and heatproof gloves, biodegradable washing up liquid, washing up bowl, tea towels, first aid kit, fire extinguisher. -Bag transfer from/to the nearest public parking place on arrival and departure. Please pack everything else you need to sleep, cook (portable gas stoves welcome), eat, and keep yourself and your equipment safe; remembering that you’ll have to carry your own gear for the last 200m to the cow byre, and then beyond to wherever you pitch up. Note too that the site is completely unlit after dark, there are no charging facilities, and phone signal can be spotty. Headtorches, camping lanterns, and portable battery chargers are all strongly recommended. Where can I stock up? Our local businesses would love your support! Award winning bread, cafe-quality ready meals, and Thursday night pizzas can be pre-ordered for collection at Two Dales Bakery; the Bike Centre is known for its incredible cake selection (and excellent rental service); Reeth Post Office sells the usual camping cupboard staples, as well as local milk, cheese and sausages; and Reeth's Friday morning market has all your meat, cheese, and fruit and veg supplies covered. For dining out, there are five pubs within easy-ish walking/cycling distance: The CB Inn, The Bridge Inn, The Black Bull, The King's Arms and The Buck. Ramsay’s Fish and Chip Van also visits Reeth between 4-6pm every Friday evening; you’ll find it parked up in Langhorne Drive. Finished reading and not sure it's for you? Search for our off-grid annexe on AirBnB for simple, off-grid living with a few creature comforts e.g. hot running water, a bed and a bath. This can also be booked in tandem with our nearly-wild camping area, subject to availability.

When you stay at Hunstanton Camping and Glamping with mYminiBreak you are conveniently located to explore the beach and its surrounding areas. Between the venue and the beach, you will find the entrance to a public footpath that takes you to Snettisham, a smaller and history-rich village through scenic rural countryside. It is also possible to walk to Hunstanton in the opposite direction along the promenade whilst enjoying the sea air and open views. Our campsite is one of only a handful of campsites located on the west coast of Norfolk and just a 2-minute walk from the beach gives us a prime location for watching the sunset go down in all its spectacular deep orange and red glory. We are a rural former dairy farm by the beach, there are free-ranging chickens and cockerels and they may make farmyard sounds, if you are a light sleeper, be sure to bring earplugs :) GLAMPERS PLEASE NOTE The Glamping Kitchenette is suitable for making small quick meals with the use of a microwave, oven & stove for cooking and grilling and a toaster and kettle, there is also a fridge provided. Showers and toilets are shared with the campsite with the exception of gas powered outside showers that are solely for glampers. We are a VERY dog-friendly venue, we welcome dogs and muddy boots and host many hikers and explorers of the Norfolk Coast, although every care has been taken to ensure very clean accommodation, it is possible that a dog hair or 2 escapes our conscientious eye, please bear this in mind and let us know should you find anything you are not happy with, we will get our housekeeping team to deal with the issue swiftly! Please note that the Glamping Bell Tents and Glamping Shepherds Huts are for 2 adults only with the exception of 1 Adult and 1 Child with prior consent from us, they are not suitable for under 2's and do not come with facilities for children or babies. Nestled in North East England, Doncaster was technically ceded to Scotland thousands of years ago—and never officially returned to England. Besides its captivating history, Doncaster's other claim to fame is the Doncaster Cup—one of the oldest continuing horse races. Nature abounds near Doncasters, as well, for campers who want to get up close and personal with local plants and wildlife. View lions in Yorkshire Wildlife Park, explore caves at Peak District National Park, and watch starlings dip and dive in Potteric Carr Nature Reserve—all under an hour drive from Doncaster. Camping accommodations range from cosy bell tents, holiday parks with full hookups, and dog-friendly wooden pod cabins near each attraction—allowing a comfortable stay for any type of camper.

Yorkshire Wildlife Park

Enjoy a safari experience without stepping foot outside of England at family-friendly Yorkshire Wildlife Park, only 15 minutes south of Doncaster. Check out 60 different species of animals, including zebras, tigers, wallabies, and “The Boys”—eight residential polar bears. Book a behind-the-scenes tour or walk through the grounds at your own pace. Stay at a campsite near the entrance offering washrooms, shower facilities, fresh water taps, and pitches for tents and caravans. Or rent a classic bell tent that comes fully furnished with fresh linens.

Peak District National Park

Situated 50 minutes west of Doncaster, Peak District National Park offers dozens of natural caves, making it a popular spot for potholing. Above ground, enjoy 56 kilometres of traffic-free trails for walking and horseback riding, paved roads for cycling, and areas for rock climbing. Although wild camping is not allowed on park-owned land, it is in privately-owned areas with permission. Designated campervan and tent pitches are available within the park in addition to pet-friendly wooden pods equipped with heat, electricity, and covered verandas.

Potteric Carr Nature Reserve

This grassy wetland oasis offers excellent wildlife viewing and nature walking trails. The area stretches over 580 acres and is a haven for migrating birds in spring and autumn. The meadow areas come to life in summer, as well, with insects and butterflies, while dynamic aerial displays from thousands of starlings are viewable in winter. While there are no campgrounds within the reserve, there are private fully-serviced holiday parks, roomy canvas yurts, and rustic tent pitches on wide-open fields available nearby.

When to go

June to late August promises the best weather in Doncaster for outdoor activities like rock climbing and cycling. Summer temperatures range from 20–22°C. Campers can expect cold, wet, and windy weather in winter from November until early March. Birdwatching is available year-round; however campers may want to bring waterproof jackets and warm clothing during the off-season. If horse racing is at the top of the list, plan to visit in September to watch the Doncaster Cup.
