With a private valley, formed in the last ice age, acres of land and woodland to explore, our farm has a very special feeling which has been mentioned by every visitor. Occupied by some beautiful wildlife, including buzzards and owls, deer, badgers and foxes.
The Wagons have a grass roof, firepits, sleep 4 (in double bunk format), they are hand-made from reclaimed materials salvaged from the local town and other areas, double skinned and insulated with sheeps wool. They have a 2-ring gas-burner in the cute kitchen area, dining table and seating, and are the perfect home away from home.
All the decor is vintage, including cuttlery, crockery and even the childrens teddy's.
Being on the doorstep of Dalby Forest, there are hours of entertainment to be had. You can follow the stream at the bottom of the valley to the River Derwent or venture into the surounding woods. We can provide a guest pass (free access) for Dalby Forest.
The Wagons are not powered by electricity and are romantically lit by candles and oil lamps. Heated by cast iron gas heaters.

Our camps are spread out across our site, each one secluded from the others with nothing to see but the meadows, woods, views and at night the starry skies.
The site is truly wild, with ancient woodland to one side with a beck running through it, and fields which we are rewilding full of wildflowers, bees and butterflies. The wildlife runs riot, with deer, owls, badgers, bats and all kinds of wild birds regular visitors. To preserve our wilderness and peace no cars are allowed on site; our visitors walk down the fields to their camps, leaving the real world with their cars at the gate (if you have mobility problems please contact us directly).
Our camps are completely off-grid making it perfect for those looking for a digital detox and to get away from the stresses and strains of modern life. We try hard to be gentle on this beautiful place we call home, and the site is designed to be low impact on the environment with it’s own spring water, composting toilets and willow banks. All lighting is solar or via rechargeable batteries and eco-friendly washing products are provided.
All the camps have a luxurious feeling despite feeling completely cut off from the outside world, with proper beds with comfy mattresses and their own hot showers; luxury bedding and fluffy towels are provided. Each camp has been handbuilt entirely by us from scratch from things that are recycled, found, car booted, made, upcycled, saved or rescued. Some things are on their third or even fourth life on the farm. Look out for the details, expect the unexpected, this is not glamping by numbers.
Nothing says glamping to us like a real fire at the end of the day, toasting marshmallows, sharing stories and putting the day to rest. Each camp has a firepit for you to do just this.
There is very little mobile reception in many places on the farm and we wholeheartedly recommend you take this as an opportunity to leave your phone with the rest of the modern world behind for your stay and remember what it is to live a little bit wild.

Much more than we ever expected. We had our own little camp with everything we could ever have needed: outdoor kitchen with stove and utensils, fire pit and cooking plate, hammock, covered table, lovely little toilet and shower and so much space for our dog. So serene and a beautiful view too. We had a fabulous night.

There are so many quirky and personal touches everywhere, its like a feast for the eyes, and we came back feeling very relaxed.
Great comfort and excellent facilities, didnt feel like camping at all, we will definately be returning and would highly Roe Deer cabins to any other camping novices out there.

Such a peaceful location! Amazing views and plenty of wildlife to spot. Loved being able to BBQ on the plate outside. Ed and Verity left plenty of kitchen tools and have set up a beautiful space so close to Whitby and the forests nearby, you can tell they’ve really put a lot of love and effort into making a great campsite. The bed was super comfortable too. Would absolutely come again and stay for longer to do some more exploring. Thank you :)

This is an amazing wagon set in the most beautiful countryside with breathtaking views . We had our own composting toilet .
Bruce left us lots of treats for our arrival . We sat outside until late with the fire pit campfire until we could see the stars .
It was very warm night .

We loved our night at Bickley Rigg wagons. We stayed in Oxo wagon, which has a beautiful bunk bed with cupboard bed beneath, and it’s full of vintage curios, china and oil lanterns. We enjoyed the views across the valley, a campfire, delicious local produce in our welcome pack (especially the bacon), learning how to use the storm lamps and watching rabbits on the hill from our beds in the morning. Feel refreshed and inspired. Be aware toilets and facilities are very much off grid composting ones. Bruce was welcoming and helpful despite his kids being ill- and hard to believe he’s built all the wagons himself- this is obviously a labour of love.

Great directions from the host to this site. Well located with beautiful views towards Malham Cove and handy that there is a farm shop with cafe on site - great breakfast baps! What a gorgeous, quirky and comfortable caravan, with such a fantastic view!
Bruce was really welcoming and passionate about the site, the landscape and the wildlife.
My boys and i cooked hot dogs and smores on the fire pit outside while we watched birds, rabbits and deer, gathered round the stove inside and played games, then watched the stars before snuggling up in 2 big lovely beds.
We enjoyed the delicious extras, especially the bread, bacon, eggs and cheese which made for a tasty breakfast.
Really enjoyed ourselves and planning on staying again to enjoy Dalby firest and villages, and some of the Scarborough events.

My daughter and I just returned from a 2 night stay. The accommodation, the view, the hospitality and the lovely little extra touches made us feel so welcome and exceeded all expectations. The accommodation was clean and bright and had everything we needed and more. Emma was a superb host and nothing was too much trouble. What an absolutely perfect getaway in the quiet, watching the sunrise and the sunset with the sounds of the birds, seeing the rabbits running around. Simply cannot recommend this place enough for couples or families.

What a gorgeous stay here! Stayed in the glencroft for two nights. I was able to ask Rich lots of questions before booking. The setting is beautiful and the pod even more so.
Lovely welcome basket and all you need is provided. You just need your food, a costume for the hot tub and you’re in for a perfect stay. I slept like a log for 2 nights and the weather made it even more perfect. There is plenty to do within 1 hour of the pods and we opted for 2 days of hiking so the hot tub was a welcome relief! The under floor heating is also fantastic. The shower was a little temperamental you couldn’t get a balance between hot and cold but if that’s a stretch to find anything to improve on. I hope I’ll be back one day

Me and my girlfriend stayed here for two nights and we loved it. It’s set in a private area with lovely glamorous pods.
I booked this for my girlfriend’s birthday and it did not disappoint. Access to a private hot tub, bbq and indoor speakers in the ceiling really allowed us to relax while there.
On a night we chilled in our room and had a movie night which had access to Netflix, Disney and all other platforms.
I would definitely recommend this to anyone wanting a chilled weekend, while also only being about 25 minutes from the city of York.

Tent camping in North Yorkshire
North York Moors National Park
Campers who enjoy natural flora and fauna will love the North York Moors National Park, in eastern North Yorkshire, which contains huge swathes of heather moorland that burst into colour in summer. There are options for walking, cycling, and horse riding throughout the park, and plenty of places to camp (although wild camping isn’t allowed). The region also extends all the way to the sea, so campers can explore the coastline and stay at a seaside campground, especially around the charming town of Whitby.
Howardian Hills AONB
South of the North York Moors National Park, the Howardian Hills AONB is an area of rolling pastoral land and the only Jurassic-era limestone landscape in Northern England. Visitors can walk, bike, and ride horses through the AONB, as well as check out the many lovely villages. Accommodation can be found on rural farms and in the villages, and range from historic cottages to tent sites and glamping pods.
Yorkshire Dales National Park
In western North Yorkshire, the Yorkshire Dales National Park is a region of hills, valleys, waterfalls, ravines, and villages. It also offers some of England’s clearest skies thanks to its distance from major settlements, and is designated as a Dark Sky Reserve. Campers who enjoy stargazing and sleeping outside on a cloudless night can see the Milky Way, planets, meteors, and sometimes the Northern Lights. There are many campsites throughout the park but wild camping or sleeping in your vehicle isn’t allowed.
Nidderdale AONB
Bordering the Yorkshire Dales National Park, Nidderdale AONB is an extension of the same beautiful landscape, with moorlands, valleys, flower-covered woodlands, and rolling farmland. It’s also home to many birds, adders, and lizards, so is a fun spot for campers who enjoy looking out for wildlife. There are campsites of various kinds throughout the AONB.
