A rural getaway doesn’t have to involve a long drive or lots of winding lanes to negotiate – and an excellent example of this is Beech Farm, in the West Sussex countryside about five minutes’ drive from Billingshurst.
This site is about a mile and a half from the nearest A road, half an hour’s drive from the A3 and M23, and about 45 minutes from Junction 9 of the M25. All of that adds up to a quick-to-reach destination for residents of London and most of the South East, as well as easy access for those coming from further afield.
This is a fairly simple site with just essential facilities (toilet block, rubbish area and chemical disposal point), but it’s all well maintained. It’s a laidback place where families, dogs and groups are all welcome, but please note that campfires and barbecues are not allowed for safety reasons.
Bed down here and you’ll be in an excellent spot for all sorts of days out – the site is just outside the South Downs National Park for scenic walks and bike rides, and within easy reach of Chichester (40 minutes), the Goodwood Estate (35 minutes) and the beaches of the south coast (half an hour). Billingshurst has a good selection of shops and places to eat, plus a railway station for days out by train.

We are a family run farm situated in the beautiful Frome valley. The farm has a range of interests from the traditional Jersey milking cows to a community of workshops used by local craftsmen. The cafe serves cream teas from Easter to the end of September and pizzas are sold in evenings during the summer months.
Ours is a small family run camp site with the River Frome on one side, next to the medieval buildings of Stowford Farm. The river is suitable for fishing, boating, swimming and paddling. Historic Bradford-on-Avon is only a 5 minute drive and the City of Bath 15 minutes. For those who enjoy more rural pleasures, 200 metres from the campsite Farleigh Hungerford boasts the only river swimming club in the country, and you can become an instant member for a very small fee.

A great base for exploring the South Downs and all that West Sussex has to offer. For events at Goodwood or for walkers and cyclists on the South Downs Way, the site is also an ideal spot for escaping the crowds.
There are 20 non electric grass pitches onsite, each welcoming tents only. Each pitch allows up to six guests, with plenty of space for tents and gazebos with no extra charges other than on a per-person basis. Unloading is allowed by the pitches with parking in the designated car park.
Wake up to fantastic rural views and grab a bite to eat from the onsite cafe, which also serves a delicious cup of coffee. Days can be spent enjoying long walks in beautiful open countryside, exploring the charming nearby towns and villages, or down by the coast, only 25 minutes away.
In the evenings, guests can cook up a BBQ or relax by the campfire.
Please note, the site is dog free.

Escape the hustle and bustle of every day life in our peaceful rural campsite, with spacious grass pitches big enough for you to have lots of private space. Each pitch has a firepit for barbecues, and there is access to composting toilets, a shower block with warm water, and fresh drinking water. Please note there is no electricity on this simple site.
Vehicles are not allowed to park on the camping field, but parking is provided a stone’s throw away. Wheelbarrows are provided to help you get your kit from car to tent.
Countryside walks and cycle paths lead directly from your pitch. There are several pubs in the local area – the nearest being 10 minutes’ stroll away. We have a tea room on site, open Thursday - Sunday 10am-3pm.

Great camping spot with beautiful views. It is in a remote area, really peaceful and tranquil environment.
The facilities are pretty standard for camping, a bit unclean but functional. I imagine most people don’t intend on spending much time in the toilets though.
The site is relatively flat so great for sleeping. I would happily come back and enjoy this hidden gem again.

We had a lovely two night stay, the host was very friendly and accommodating. The site is very spacious with great surroundings and views complete with farm animals and gorgeous local birds. The facilities are basic but functional which adds to the rustic charm of the site. Firewood was available as a great added bonus.

We have just had our second stay at Primrose Fields. First being in 2017 (see camper van tent picture) and again over the heatwave bank holiday weekend in May 2026. Can see a big difference with what is available and we would definitely come back. Pitching under the oak trees with a view of the whole field really created a chill and wholesome atmosphere. It was our daughter’s first camping trip too and she really didn’t want to leave.
The close proximity to beaches and things to do really do make this place a gem! We went to Ringstead Bay, the Blue Pool, Lulworth Castle and Kingston Maurward Animal Park. The quick journeys meant we could really make use of the time we had there.
The rope swing was a real hit and it’s all we’re hearing about now :’)

Christina’s campsite is a fantastic place from which to explore the south coast. Located just a couple of miles from Wareham and only a short drive from some beautiful beaches.
We got a lovely warm welcome and a good brief on the facilities available.
Hot water 24/7 is a real bonus of this site. Good showers and plenty of dish washing sinks.
We hired a fire pit and cooked fresh Mackerel and sea bass we’d caught that day from Kimmeridge bay.
Overall a fantastic, welcoming, dog friendly place to stay and hosts are amazing.
Thank you for a lovely bank holiday weekend.

Bridgewood is such a special place to visit for camping. It strikes the perfect balance between wild camping and being close enough to people to feel safe. Such a wonderful experience and easy to locate! Sarah and Paul were so helpful and accommodating, and gave me such a welcoming tour around the grounds when I arrived.
I'll definitely be planning another visit back there soon.

Really lovely site. We loved the space and the views and my daughter loved the animals.
We were there on a hot bank holiday weekend and we still had so much space, it was the perfect place to relax and switch off. The facilities were good, having a firepit was great and access to a kettle, fridge and freezer are always a bonus.
We'd recommend a drive down The Street at Milton Abbas, go to the Steeptonbill Farm Shop and from there walk to the chapel (the man in the farm shop gave us the key) to see the views of the abbey. A total surprise and gorgeous. Also recommend The View Coffee shop.
Would definitely stay at Richard's site again.

It's exactly as described: rural, beautiful and basic. I used it as an overnight on a bikepacking trip and it was perfect. It's in the Wessex downs, which are lovely and hilly!
I'll be back if I can find a better route that doesn't include busy roads or hills that are like a cliff!
