Narnia Retreat

2 units · Glamping2 acres · Horncastle, Lincolnshire, East Midlands
At Narnia, you’ll be stepping headfirst into a woodland escape just outside the Lincolnshire Wolds. This remote-feeling place is quite the hidey-hole, as you’ll have the bell tent and woodland space to yourself, so you can unwind away and get down to some real quality time. Surrounded by a quiet, five-acre Georgian estate that’s been in the countryside for 200 years, this is quite a royal-feeling stay. The entrance is through a door dubbed the entrance to Narnia, complete with a lamp post for the full fantasy. Around the site, there are fairy lights, so it’s an ambient place to unwind, perhaps while looking up to the sky from your private hot shower, having a soak in the outdoor bathtub or having a picnic under the tree chandelier. The interior’s cosy too and on the luxury side, thanks to an antique French bed and chandelier. Of course, treats and things to eat may quickly be on your mind, and that’s no problem here, as Horncastle (10 minutes’ drive) is a local market town with a vibrant pub, village café, farm shops and supermarkets. The energy might come in handy for the Lincolnshire Wolds’ walking and cycling trails. The edge of the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is just over 300 metres away from the site, so you’ll be able to get there in no time (five minutes’ walk to be exact). There's often wildlife to be seen right on site too: while you relax you may spot wild rabbits, muntjac deer and pheasants, plus all sorts of birds flying overhead.

Our campsite is one of only a handful of campsites located on the west coast of Norfolk and just a 2-minute walk from the beach gives us a prime location for watching the sunset go down in all its spectacular deep orange and red glory. Couple this with having some drinks with friends and family by your campfire or BBQ makes for a wonderful memory to share with your loved ones. We are campfire and dog friendly, and welcome your four-legged friends to stay with you across our camping and glamping accommodation Local shops only 5 minutes down the road takes a load off your mind knowing that if you forget any supplies you don't have to go without, making your experience while camping in Hunstanton a relaxed and fun time. We are a rural former dairy farm by the beach, there are free-ranging chickens and cockerels and they may make farmyard sounds, if you are a light sleeper, be sure to bring earplugs :) GLAMPERS PLEASE NOTE The Glamping Kitchenette is suitable for making small quick meals with the use of a microwave, oven & stove for cooking and grilling and a toaster and kettle, there is also a fridge provided. - Simple rural campsite set in the heart of the Lincolnshire Wolds. - A 30-minute drive to Skegness; 45 minutes to Fantasy Island. - Peaceful pitches on a working farm. Tucked into secluded fields in the spectacular Lincolnshire Wolds, Oxcombe Campsite is a dog-friendly spot and haven for outdoor-loving families. It’s on a working farm with grazing cattle in surrounding fields, so while your dogs are welcome, please keep them under control. This is a simple site with peaceful rural views over All Saints Church in Oxcombe – and yet it’s also close to handy things like farm shops, market towns Louth and Horncastle, and plenty of pubs within a five-minute drive. It’s a short car journey to Skegness if you fancy a night out, and there are adventure parks, stately mansions and golf courses close by too – in short, plenty to keep all the family entertained. If you’re keen to get and about in nature, you’re also in the right spot. Cyclists and walkers, follow a bridle path from the farm and jump on the Viking Way, while there are easier strolls along Lincoln-Washingbrough Tow Path. You can also get out in the bracing sea air and play hide-and-seek with the kids among sand dunes at Moggs Eye and Gibraltar Point beaches. Back at base the handful of facilities at this simple rural site include showers and loos in the toilet block, use of an indoor communal area plus a washing machine and tumble dryer. A small number of communal firepits are available to borrow and you can also buy sacks of logs (with kindling and firestarters) on site. Open fires are not permitted but you're welcome to bring gas stoves or disposable barbecues along.

Camping in Lincolnshire Wolds AONB guide

Overview

The Lincolnshire Wolds make up a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in Lincolnshire. The region contains some of the most unspoilt countryside in the East Midlands, with rolling hills and valleys and clean streams, as well as pretty old villages. The woodlands, grasslands, and abandoned chalk pits provide important habitats for flora and fauna, particularly birds. Campers have many options throughout the Lincolnshire Wolds, either in the villages or in more natural settings. The area is especially popular for its walking, cycling, and horse-riding trails, with campsites good bases for outdoor exploration.

Where to go

Louth

On the eastern edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds, historic Louth is full of Victorian and Georgian architecture. Louth is also especially renowned as a foodie haven, with markets and specialist butcher’s and cheese shops gaining a nationwide reputation–ideal for self-catering campers. Louth is near the popular local park Hubbard’s Hills, formed over 40,000 years ago by a glacial overspill channel. Campers have several options around the town, including pod camping and caravan parks.

Alford

If you’re looking for charming old thatched cottages, head directly to Alford, in the south east of the Lincolnshire Wolds and also very near the coast. It’s a market town and a good place to stock up on fresh produce for your camping adventures. There are several places to pitch a tent or park your caravan or motorhome, and thatched cottages that have been converted into holiday homes are also available–a particularly good option outside of the warmer summer months.

Caistor

In the north of the Lincolnshire Wolds, ancient Caistor has Roman and Viking history. It sees a lot of walkers passing through as it’s on the Viking Way, a 147-mile walk that starts on the banks of Lincolnshire’s Humber River and continues all the way to Rutland Water, east of Leicester. There are a lot of camping and other accommodation options at the Caistor Lakes Leisure Park, as well as an abundance of fish in the reservoirs here.

Skegness

While not in the Lincolnshire Wolds, the popular Lincolnshire Coast resort town of Skegness is just a short drive to the south-east. Campers who want to be near the beach can camp at caravan parks in Skegness and visit the wolds on a day trip. There are many family-friendly camping options here, from farm parks and holiday parks to cabins and basic tent sites.
