Our magnificent glamping pod is set in its own private field and surrounded by stunning oak trees and glorious barley fields. The site is a haven for a range of wild birds, from Woodpeckers to Kingfishers, making us the ideal holiday destination for nature lovers.
The well-equipped pod comes with a range of excellent facilities to suit all your needs. A kitchen area comes with a range of appliances including an oven, hobs, microwave, toaster and kettle. You can relax on the comfy corner sofa and there is a solid oak bar with stools. A comfortable double bed is the perfect place to rest your head at night. The en suite bathroom has a hot shower, basin, flushing toilet and a warm towel rail. Inside the pod there is electrical lights and a flat-screen TV.
Outside you can relax in the hot tub (available April - October) with a glass of wine whilst admiring the breathtaking views. A lovely terrace area also comes with seating. A BBQ is provided and a wooden fence encircles the pod to create a private and peaceful space. Opposite is an enclosed duck pond which is home to a range of ducks, as well as the occasional water-dwelling bird.

Owls Hollow is a unique wooden showman’s (much bigger than a standard shepherds hut) which we have lovingly restored ourselves to offer you a unique and unusual space for that lovely escape back to nature . The showmans has a wooden mollycroft roof, to preserve this we have added an external covering, which not only adds to the quirky design but also means the inside is kept lovely and cool in the heat and cosy and warm on chilly nights when you light the wood stove. There are numerous windows to allow plenty of natural light. We have added plenty of attention to detail with our craft skills, including chainsaw carved owls!
Super comfortable double bed, cosy wood burner, kitchen, table and seating, cosy reading area, ample wardrobe and cupboard space: all make for those glamping luxuries. Outside light on porch with boot and coat area. Half a dozen eggs, tea, coffee and sugar are provided, please bring your choice of milk as we are no longer able to supply this.
Owls Hollow has power for lights and sockets. There is no internal plumbing, water is in a traditional jug and ample barrels of water with taps for ease of use are provided in the tented utility area. This also houses the fridge, washing up sink, and undercover area to sit.
All the water here is natural spring water and there is no WiFi, and rarely any phone signal (*update: unless you are with O2, possible signal)- so you can relax and just get back to nature.
Outside you have a camp fire area with seating and fire dish, which also doubles up as a large BBQ. There is an open tented utility area, also outdoor table and chairs and two sun loungers. The first two evenings ample worth of firewood is provided with your booking, further bags can be bought on site for £5 if required. We have a friendly small black cat who is likely to visit you around the fire! Welcome to shoo her away or let her be- but she is strictly not allowed in the showman’s!
It’s half a minutes walk along your path to the glamorous compost toilet (with solar lights) and the ultra special bathroom!
The quirky bathroom comprises 2 indoor areas- one with dressing room and hot shower, the other with wash basin. Only Eco friendly products can be used: we provide shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and soap for your convenience. Your towels and dressing gowns will be provided ready folded on the shower area shelving.
Outside is the wonderful outdoor bathing experience!
Relax in the deep cast iron bath watching the day go by, or the night sky (and often owls and bats!) Instant hot water means you can stay in for as long as you like, topping up as needed! Take a book and a pot of tea / glass of wine and just lay back and soak. The advantages of our spring water fed bath over hot tubs are no need for chemicals, adjust the temperature easily, eco friendly and two can still fit! There is also the option to use the attached shower head.
240v sockets available in the dressing area, hairdryer supplied.
A tent pitch is also available when booking Owls Hollow, please enquire. Camp beds, bedding and towels can be provided. Please enquire for pitch prices and extra people (more than 2)

My partner and I stayed a night in the Peaceful Pod (Wollemia) and it was absolutely beautiful. The pod was clean, well decorated, and the outdoor space was so peaceful.
I would highly recommend staying here and would absolutely love to stay again 💜

Had an amazing time at Alison and Bear’s shepherds hut. Such a beautiful, peaceful location and a very cosy hut. Alison and Bear were very kind and helpful, guiding us to the hut when we arrived and they’d already lit the log burner and hot tub fire.

brilliant place to stay, very relaxed there but if you need anything they was there. me and my partner stayed here with our 2 daughters and our dog and it was 100% one of the best places we have been to, great veiws, great facilities. all in all will 100% be staying again and maybe try the other cabins.

The yurt in the orchard is a lovely, peaceful place to stay. Chris was welcoming and the cream teas were an absolute treat. We had a great time as a family of 4 and our boys loved the hot tub! We would love to return one day. 😀

Very private, lovely place so quiet, facilities were great, Chris was amazing and went ab9ve and beyond for us. Even put gazebo up over the seating area as on arrival it was raining hard. Yurt was amazing bed was really comfortable. Hot tub was an added bonus and the Bluetooth speaker was a nice touch. our dogs absolutely love the grounds. Would highly recommend. And I think we will be back again one day.

An absolutely beautiful stay on Sara's farm - the kids loved feeding the animals, the yurt was great and the hot tub and sauna were the perfect treat. The farm is surrounded by beautiful beaches too, a wonderful stay.

This is a place to feel connected to the land and to completely let go of all the pressures of modern living. Jan is passionate about bio diversity and I loved walking up to the yurt, brushing past lavender and sage and wild flowers full of bees and butterflies, picking an apple on the way - and having it for breakfast whilst looking over a most glorious sunrise view from Buzzard Yurt. Then a walk in the woods and chilling in the hammock reading and soaking up the birdsong and the sound of the buzzard up above. At night - lying on the deck looking up at a starry sky and sitting round the fire toasting marshmallows. A truly relaxing and healing few days. Thank you Jan.

Wow, wow, wow.
So we had a fantastic time at Kingfisher Yurt, relaxing under the Oak and Ash trees. Swimming pond was perfect.
Yurt was really comfortable and the kitchen was fab for dining and playing games, We hired the hot tub, which was also lovely.
Jan was a perfect host. We shall be back.

Had a really nice time at Rocombe Valley Retreat, Elliot was very welcoming on arrival, the bell tent was great and comfortable. The site was quiet and clean and they had a lot of essentials there ready to use in the shared kitchen, including a fridge/freezer to store food in. Wood fired hot tub was a nice treat to top it off.

We booked a weekend stay with our daughter and it was lovely, very peaceful and calm. She loved feeding the pigs! The hot tub stays hot for a long time once you’ve got it going so worth firing it up nice abs early. The site owners were always around and really helpful too.

We loved our stay at Buzzard Yurt! Jan was super friendly and helpful, and the kids loved the trampoline, the pond, the hot tub, feeding the chickens, picking the eggs and just everything the lovely campsite had to offer. It was such a good break from the bustle of city life and we cannot wait to return. The night skies were delightful with a sky full of stars and hardly any light pollution anywhere near us, and our days were filled with adventure and nature at the camp. Jan's campsite is conveniently located to lots of lovely sights - Beer, Seaton, Lyme Regis. A perfect break!

The Yurt in the Orchard is an exceptional place to get away from it all. Be prepared for silence ! The Yurt is comfortable, the shepherds hut has the essentials for food prep and the washing up station does the job. The shower is great and the loo is functional while being eco friendly. Be prepared to spend hours in the hot tub looking at the stars and the milky way. Had a great weekend.

When to go
July and August are the peak season in Dartmoor National Park, and popular spots such as Fernworthy Forest can get crowded—parking is limited, so get there early. Forest walks can be enjoyed year-round, but it’s most magical in autumn, with its canopy of fall foliage. Dartmoor weather is notoriously changeable, so pack a sweater and raincoat even in summer.
Know before you go
- Fernworthy Forest is located north of Dartmoor National Park, about a 15-minute drive southwest of Chagford. There is a pay and display car park by the entrance to the forest.
- Restrooms are located at the forest car park, but there are no other facilities, so bring everything you need with you. The closest village is Chagford, which has a few pubs and small shops.
- Trout fishing is possible on the lake between March and October, and fishing permits can be purchased on-site.
- Parts of the lakeside trail are accessible for wheelchairs and pushchairs.
- Dartmoor National Park is one of the few places in the UK where wild camping is permitted. Tents must be pitched away from roads and attractions, and large group camping is not allowed.
- Dartmoor has free-roaming ponies, sheep, and cattle, and these animals have the right of way on moorland roads. There is a strict speed limit of 40 mph throughout. It is a fineable offense to feed any of the animals in the park, and visitors are also advised to keep a distance for their own safety—these are feral animals and may kick or bite.
