With a private valley, formed in the last ice age, acres of land and woodland to explore, our farm has a very special feeling which has been mentioned by every visitor. Occupied by some beautiful wildlife, including buzzards and owls, deer, badgers and foxes.
The Wagons have a grass roof, firepits, sleep 4 (in double bunk format), they are hand-made from reclaimed materials salvaged from the local town and other areas, double skinned and insulated with sheeps wool. They have a 2-ring gas-burner in the cute kitchen area, dining table and seating, and are the perfect home away from home.
All the decor is vintage, including cuttlery, crockery and even the childrens teddy's.
Being on the doorstep of Dalby Forest, there are hours of entertainment to be had. You can follow the stream at the bottom of the valley to the River Derwent or venture into the surounding woods. We can provide a guest pass (free access) for Dalby Forest.
The Wagons are not powered by electricity and are romantically lit by candles and oil lamps. Heated by cast iron gas heaters.

The space
The hut has sweeping countryside views and is perfect for a peaceful and relaxing break! Inside there is a king sized hybrid mattress bed, seating area with a fold up table for meal times or relaxing, a fully equipped kitchen with all utensils & crockery, integrated fridge with small freezer, heating with Nest controlled thermostat, induction hob, sink and draining tray. There is also a large en-suite with a rainfall shower.
Luxury toiletries are provided along with towels and themed bed linen. You will also have 1 extra towel per person for use with the hot tub.
Jars of tea, coffee and sugar are available in the kitchen along with a couple of milk sachets.
The garden is fully enclosed with a gravel and lawned area, table & seating, large firepit/BBQ and a parasol for those sunnier days! The fire pit is set up with racks, pans and all the equipment needed to cook with!
The large hot tub with lights and jets is just to the side of the seating area. The hot tub is fully undercover, making it safe to use in all weathers! There is also enough space for undercover seating. There is a manual provided in the hut which features local attractions and there is a private landscaped parking area located just at the back of the hut.
There is lots to do nearby and something for every and those a little further afield, local supermarkets, cafes, pubs and restaurants. The site is also located on the Leicestershire Round walking route with at least 5 off road walks commencing within 400 yards of the site.
Check in information, along with directions to the site are messaged 48 hours prior to arrival.

Secure off road parking, waste bin, outdoor tap and hose, recycling bins, enclosed garden, hot tub and seating area, large fire pit and shepherds hut with en-suite.
Other things to note
Tip- it can get quite dark at night, therefore it is advisable to bring a torch.
A full set of towels is provided, including a hot tub towel. Luxury toiletries, toilet roll, tea, coffee, sugar and milk are also provided to welcome you.

Weekend Trip to Huckleberry Farm
Our getaway to Huckleberry Farm was a gift for my husband’s birthday. Everything from start to finish was really organised and fun. Met all of our expectations. Charlotte and everyone on site were really helpful and sweet. We enjoyed horse riding and seeing the guinea pigs. We stayed in the shepherd’s hut, a clean and well maintained space that felt like home for the night. All in all a wonderful experience. Completely recommend! Thank you Charlotte and everyone at Huckleberry Farm for having Ali & I. Looking back to visiting again sometime soon!

Our stay at Over the Moon was absolutely perfect. Ruth was super friendly and gave clear instructions on how to find them, and replied quickly to any questions. Have already recommended this place to friends. We had a lovely stay in the sunshine. The hut is has everything you need in a compact but unsquashy space. Enjoyed some fine walks and a super day out in Ruthin. We'd also recommend the Red Lion for a visit. Ruth & Jude were both very helpful and welcoming. I'm sure we'll come back.

I had a wonderful stay in this charming shepherd’s hut nestled in a peaceful meadow. The hut was beautifully equipped with everything I needed for a comfortable and cozy getaway. The surrounding area was lovely, with fruit to pick and plenty of space for the dogs, who absolutely loved it! The hosts were fabulous—friendly, helpful, and welcoming. I couldn’t have asked for more. Highly recommend this little gem for a relaxing countryside retreat.

This is an amazing wagon set in the most beautiful countryside with breathtaking views . We had our own composting toilet .
Bruce left us lots of treats for our arrival . We sat outside until late with the fire pit campfire until we could see the stars .
It was very warm night .

Weekend Trip to Purple Badger Camping&Fishing Lakes
I booked a fishing retreat for my husbands birthday , it was perfect, Fenton hut was gorgeous and the pitch ,privacy and space we had was perfect . The hosts were just lovely, they literally couldn’t do enough for us including a fabulous dinner recommendation at JB Kitchen.
Truly wonderful stay .. would highly recommend

We loved our night at Bickley Rigg wagons. We stayed in Oxo wagon, which has a beautiful bunk bed with cupboard bed beneath, and it’s full of vintage curios, china and oil lanterns. We enjoyed the views across the valley, a campfire, delicious local produce in our welcome pack (especially the bacon), learning how to use the storm lamps and watching rabbits on the hill from our beds in the morning. Feel refreshed and inspired. Be aware toilets and facilities are very much off grid composting ones. Bruce was welcoming and helpful despite his kids being ill- and hard to believe he’s built all the wagons himself- this is obviously a labour of love.

Perfect getaway for me and my daughter. The hut is perfect, everything you could need and equipped and furnished beautifully. The views are stunning and the location is within easy reach of nature reserves and forests - spoilt for choice. It was so cosy and warm in the hut with the log burner lit and the fairy lights on. We loved our stay at Over the Moon. Location was perfect, bed was extremely comfy and the hut was very cosy with everything you'd need. We loved the chickens mooching around and hearing the sheep and baby lambs. Such a peaceful and beautiful location. Thanks to Ruth & Jude and the animals ☺️

Peak District National Park is just minutes away from the city of Matlock and hosts various trails to explore like Monsal Trail or Tissington Trail. Campers can hike to their heart's content to see stunning vistas around the park. Or, cycle, birdwatch, and explore the charming villages and historic sites like Peveril Castle throughout the area, as well. Then, settle in for the night within the park at a campsite among a grass field, a state-of-the-art camping pod, a pitch with reserved parking for motorhomes, or a wild camping spot.
Dovedale
Dovedale, a scenic limestone valley near Matlock, beckons campers with its natural beauty and tranquil ambiance. Hike along the meandering River Dove, crossing stepping stones and marvelling at limestone ravines and stunning rock formations like Thorpe Cloud and Thor's Cave. Nature lovers can spot diverse wildlife and enjoy views of the countryside, as well. While camping directly in Dovedale is not permitted, nearby private campsites offer tent pitches and caravan hookups for easy access to the valley.

When to go
