Weekend Trip to Huckleberry Farm
Our getaway to Huckleberry Farm was a gift for my husband’s birthday. Everything from start to finish was really organised and fun. Met all of our expectations. Charlotte and everyone on site were really helpful and sweet. We enjoyed horse riding and seeing the guinea pigs. We stayed in the shepherd’s hut, a clean and well maintained space that felt like home for the night. All in all a wonderful experience. Completely recommend! Thank you Charlotte and everyone at Huckleberry Farm for having Ali & I. Looking back to visiting again sometime soon!

4 nights at The Peacock Shepherds Hut
The Peacock Shepherds Hut was amazing. The views are incredible and the hut was really comfortable and well thought out from the lovely Peacock details to underfloor heating. The facilities provided everything I needed to enjoy a peaceful break. Fantastic place to relax and reset listening to birds and enjoying the roaming peacocks and wandering down to see the Alpacas. Carol makes you feel so welcome. I will definitely be recommending this place to friends.

Our stay at Over the Moon was absolutely perfect. Ruth was super friendly and gave clear instructions on how to find them, and replied quickly to any questions. The location is beautiful and incredibly peaceful. The hut had everything we needed and the bed was huge and very comfortable. We can’t wait to come stay again!

Lovely as always! This was my second visit to the Shepherds Hut, and it was just as great as my first visit.
The inside was cosy, tidy and firewood bundle was a great addition for the cooler summer nights!

We had a lovely stay at Little Ranch. Rod made us feel so welcome and our daughter loved exploring the farm and meeting the animals. The hut is beautifully designed being both spacious and and cosy, with everything you need to relax and enjoy your stay. The little extras on arrival really made it special. We enjoyed some nice walks along the canal, evenings toasting marshmallows by the fire and just really appreciated the peaceful location. We highly recommend Little Ranch and hope to be back again soon!

Fenton was a lovely shepherds hut. Fantastic location and surrounded by beautiful nature.
Hosts were fantastic, great to have breakfast, coffees and pizzas within 2 mins walk.

Have already recommended this place to friends. We had a lovely stay in the sunshine. The hut is has everything you need in a compact but unsquashy space. Enjoyed some fine walks and a super day out in Ruthin. We'd also recommend the Red Lion for a visit. Ruth & Jude were both very helpful and welcoming. I'm sure we'll come back.

Our stay at Bumble Shepherds hut was an absolute amazing experience. This place is very quiet at night and has a stunning view across the fields. The bed was really comfy and hot tub under the stars completed a romantic and relaxing stay. Will definitely be back!

I had a wonderful stay in this charming shepherd’s hut nestled in a peaceful meadow. The hut was beautifully equipped with everything I needed for a comfortable and cozy getaway. The surrounding area was lovely, with fruit to pick and plenty of space for the dogs, who absolutely loved it! The hosts were fabulous—friendly, helpful, and welcoming. I couldn’t have asked for more. Highly recommend this little gem for a relaxing countryside retreat.

Weekend Trip to Purple Badger Camping&Fishing Lakes
I booked a fishing retreat for my husbands birthday , it was perfect, Fenton hut was gorgeous and the pitch ,privacy and space we had was perfect . The hosts were just lovely, they literally couldn’t do enough for us including a fabulous dinner recommendation at JB Kitchen.

1 night at The Peacock Shepherds Hut
We really enjoyed our stay here, the Shepard’s hut is great and in the perfect & private location. Hosts are very friendly and the animals on sight are a fab addition too! We would definitely stay again for a little getaway.
The only things I would point out for anyone who doesn’t know the area- it is around 15 minutes each way to the local towns/shops, but this place is in the perfect location if you want to “switch off” and be surrounded by nature.
The hut has all of the essential items, such as shower gel, hand soap, fire wood, tea & coffee and salt & pepper. However, my only suggestion is that I personally think that some local produce such as some fresh milk & eggs would go a long way and would elevate the experience massively. In saying this, everything was perfect with our stay😊

Perfect getaway for me and my daughter. The hut is perfect, everything you could need and equipped and furnished beautifully. The views are stunning and the location is within easy reach of nature reserves and forests - spoilt for choice. It was so cosy and warm in the hut with the log burner lit and the fairy lights on. Weekend Trip to Blooms Westerby Farm
Hosts were lovely and used great communication throughout. We stay I'm the bumble hut, which was lovely, clean and cosy. The bed was so comfy but the teddy bear bedding was too hot but my goodness it was so snuggly. Hot tub was lovely as was the evening and morning delivery of tea and breakfast. I recommend this place to anyone, so many different types of accommodation. We will definitely return.

A warm and relaxed welcome from the moment we arrived. The kids were safe roaming in the play area and engaging with the animals. Our dogs were treated like family. We were super comfortable and I was able to switch off from the busy real world and read a book and enjoy the surroundings. The facilities are fantastic and the beds are big and comfortable! Can't wait to visit again.

What a stunning setting—waking up to glorious fields, with alpacas and peacocks roaming freely!
The shepherd’s hut was beautiful: warm, tastefully decorated, and full of home-from-home comforts. It had all the essentials we needed to make our stay comfortable and complete.
We had an amazing few days—some precious time out for my little boy, and me. A peaceful, breathtaking location… just what we needed to rest the soul.

Where to go
Peak District National Park
Peak District National Park is just minutes away from the city of Matlock and hosts various trails to explore like Monsal Trail or Tissington Trail. Campers can hike to their heart's content to see stunning vistas around the park. Or, cycle, birdwatch, and explore the charming villages and historic sites like Peveril Castle throughout the area, as well. Then, settle in for the night within the park at a campsite among a grass field, a state-of-the-art camping pod, a pitch with reserved parking for motorhomes, or a wild camping spot.
Dovedale
Dovedale, a scenic limestone valley near Matlock, beckons campers with its natural beauty and tranquil ambiance. Hike along the meandering River Dove, crossing stepping stones and marvelling at limestone ravines and stunning rock formations like Thorpe Cloud and Thor's Cave. Nature lovers can spot diverse wildlife and enjoy views of the countryside, as well. While camping directly in Dovedale is not permitted, nearby private campsites offer tent pitches and caravan hookups for easy access to the valley.
The Heights of Abraham
A trip to Matlock is incomplete without visiting The Heights of Abraham. Right outside Peak District National Park and accessible by a scenic cable car ride or a pleasant hike, this dog-friendly attraction offers fantastic views of Derwent Valley and the surrounding countryside. Explore the show caverns and delve into the underground wonders of the area, learning about its geological history. Afterward, return to the campsite area at the base of Heights of Abraham. Here, campers can find facilities such as tent pitches, caravan hookups, and amenities like clean washrooms and picnic spots.
When to go
Matlock has a mild climate, making it an excellent destination for camping year-round. Summers offer pleasant temperatures ranging from 20–25°C. Spring and autumn bring milder weather, providing comfortable hiking conditions and the chance to witness the beauty of changing foliage. Winter temperatures typically range from 2–8°C, which is pleasurable for those who enjoy cooler seasons and the possibility of snow.
