What a little Derbyshire gem: back to basics Whitehouse Farm Campsite is a simple site in a most scenic setting five minutes’ drive from the pretty village of Tideswell. The site’s central location in the Peak District National Park means it’s a top spot for those who want to ramble or ride bikes – several circular trails leave from Tideswell and the traffic-free Monsal Trail is a five-minute drive away. And there’s plenty more activity if you require it too, as activity centres nearby can sort you out days of horse riding, abseiling, climbing and caving. All this activity isn’t mandatory, of course – this is an equally fine location for days pottering off to local pubs, pigging out on pudding in Bakewell or taking a leisurely stroll around the Chatsworth Estate, 20 minutes away. And if even that’s too much, you’d be welcome to spend some time loafing about on site: there’s heaps of space here, and as facilities have been kept quite minimal (just showers and toilets) there should be a good serving of peace and quiet to go with it all. Guests are welcome to light up a barbecue or campfire for cookouts and keeping warm; Tideswell’s the place for supermarket supplies, and it’s also handily got a fish and chip shop and a couple of pubs for days when your firelighting skills aren't up to much.

If the answer is fair to middling, Damside Campsite might just be the place for you: this pop-up spot is surrounded by the glorious wilderness of Peak District National Park. Doesn’t get much more blissfully peaceful than that – except for the occasional lowing cow, all is stillness here. Having said that, don’t worry: you won’t have to scramble across hills and dales for a pint: a traditional pub serving real ales and home-cooked food is right in the village of Peak Forest, a 20-minute walk away. Both the site and the pub welcome dogs, though it might be wise to keep them on a lead when walking past the farm animals. This is wild camping; facilities might not be abundant (there are no showers), but they are well maintained and include a portable toilet and a washing-up area. There is also fresh running water, and you’re welcome to start a campfire or a barbecue. You can grab essentials in the village shop, or head to Chapel-en-le-Frith (10 minutes) or Buxton (15 minutes). If you’re here with the kids, the flat, grassy field where you’ll set up your tent makes for an excellent play area on which to run around, kick a ball or fly a kite. A nearby playground has swings, slides, a small adventure course and a multisport pitch. Walking paths start from right outside the farm, or you can drive to hiking areas like Chee Dale Stepping Stones (10 minutes), a dramatic gorge on the River Wye.

Been here twice with my dog. Lots of space to pitch, some on flat ground some on the incline with a higher up view of the surrounding landscape. Quiet, perfect for a good Night of sleep. The toilet facilities were clean and functional. There are some trees for shade which is good in hot weather. Lots of trails all around. The owners came both times to welcome us and check if we needed anything.

A good location close to Tittesworth Reservoir, which is a short walk from the site. The reservoir visitors' centre does food, drinks and ice cream, or you could take a picnic as there's benches dotted about. The campsite was busy when we stayed for the weekend, but there was plenty of room, and no need to pitch close to others. The toilets and showers were busy but clean. You need pound coins for the showers. There wasn't lots of showers so choose your times to use them. The hosts were very pleasant and helpful, even to the point where there was a sign warning about a very expensive nearby ice cream van pulling up - £7.50 for a cornet! It had been asked to move on, and there was no sign of it during our weekend. We hired a fire pit with logs and enjoyed sitting around it at night. Would use this site again as it's such a good location, close to Leek and there's walks from the site.

Fantastic camp site in an even greater location, they have a really great shower and toilet facility, and of course it is a small campsite for only 5 campervan which is exactly what you want if you value peace and quiet, the views are also absolutely stunning and the surrounding area is amazing, there are plenty of small villages and hikable areas very close by. And last but very not least, the hosts are amazing people, had a right laugh with them and they are incredibly friendly and welcoming, I would recommend to everyone and anyone looking for a campsite in the peak district m

Lovely chilled campsite. We didn’t see Janice and Paul other than spotting Paul in the evening driving his tractor round the field checking if anyone wanted firewood. Toilets were basic but great, no showers but great for a night. Beautiful views, and beautiful walks from the site. Will definitely return

The views from the pitch were great. Over the top of the hall and away in to the distance. Great location, 10/15 minute walk down to the centre, fairly steep walk back up. The shower and toilet are superb. Nick and Rachel were so helpful and they are very passionate about developing the Duchess's Meadow Note, the access to the pitches are up a steep hill but absolutely worth it! x

Easy reservation through Hipcamp; easy access on a lawn. Did not see the owner. Toilets OK but not very clean, neither in the evening nor in the morning, but maybe sometimes due to the campers present? Lights in the toilet didn’t not work, so I needed to take my own torch. Apart from that good basic campsite with mowed lawn.

Lovely fields, with one having a direct view of The Roaches. We arrived on the Thursday and so had the pick of the best spots. Stayed for 4 nights. The pub up the road was great and is also highly recommended. The onsite food van was very good, although only open set days and times. Firepit was good and plenty of wood. All in all, would definitely recommend and would also stay again. Oh, be aware, there is NO electric hookup!
