We are situated in the middle of a Recreation Hotspot! Our site is within 3 minutes of paddling the Big Creek, 3 to 10 minutes to several A+ hiking trails, 15 minutes to amazing freshwater beaches of Long Point and Turkey Point, and the area is abound with cycling trails, motorcycle routes, geocaching, boat launches (we have room here for your boat!), cider/wine tours, and more! We are the perfect basecamp for everything the Long Point Bay area has to offer
We have some great watering holes nearby like burning kiln winery, hounds of Erie and Charlotteville brewing company.

It was 1984 when John found his ‘diamond in the rough’, 20 acres with an orchard on the outskirts of Brantford.
O.K., so the house was nothing to write home about but perfect for building a construction yard…no neighbors except for the family across the road that used their property to build log homes.
By 1987 the old house was gone, a new one was being built and a shop for working on heavy equipment had been located about 200 ft. from Dr. the back door.
It wasn’t until 1996 that things changed very much.
Yes, the property around the house had benefitted from a wide array of trees and shrubs that John saved from the construction/demolition jobs he had done and that still thrive today but no big projects (except for equipment purchases) were ongoing.
A chance meeting with the neighbor across the road one day resulted in the following dinner conversation, ‘How was your day’ I chirped. ‘Not bad, so-and-so didn’t come in; the truck broke down and I took it for repair; I bought the property across the road, and oh, yeah I’ll need a ride after dinner to pick up the truck’ was John’s casual reply. ‘What was that’? I pressed. ‘Yes, I need a ride after dinner to pick up the truck’ he repeated with a bit more volume. Of course like anyone, I had questions, ‘Do you want peas or corn with dinner’? ‘What time do you want to go to get the truck’?
‘The property across the road’, 10 acres, still has the 4 storey barn with its twin tiled silos which was built in 1914 and the big white house with wrap around porch that once was home to a Doctor and his family. Built so the Doctor could see his patients in the front with the family living in the back was very common in the day.
Things remained relatively peaceful until 2000 when after studying alpacas for more than 6 years I bought our first three.
Back in 2000 alpacas and llamas were not frequently seen on farms and because they could been seen from the road they received A LOT of attention.
People driving by would stop and ask about them, ask if they could take a picture or two and that was when I would hear over and over again ‘You have a beautiful place here, I wish I/we could stay’.
Well, if you want to visit and stay in the city it’s doable, we call it a hotel. But visiting a farm and staying well, that isn’t so easy.
Each year we would see more and more families coming to ‘The Farm’ as they would call it.
Some came to see the alpacas and horses, some came for a stroll and to check out the horse drawn milk and bread delivery wagons, some to have family birthday parties, others to have engagement/wedding/Christmas card pictures…and so many asked if there was any way they could spend a day or two.
In 2021 during a conversation with a friend I mentioned we were in the process of gutting the 1100 sq. ft. space downstairs and turning it into an Airbnb! Right away she said, ‘I don’t know why you don’t have a Hipcamp? You’ve got that great area by the new barn that Hipcampers would love’!
After a little investigation I found out what a Hipcamp was…and as they say, the rest is future.

The space
Come to the Hedgehog to completely relax and disconnect (seriously, you will because there is no cell service!).
You can drive up to the Bunkie all year round unless your vehicle has especially low clearance. The road/path out to the bunkie started as a well-made tractor path that has held up well over the years but has some rocks and bumps. Once through the gate it’s only a 1-minute drive to where you will park. This road may be a bit muddy!
If you are looking for a Winter Bunkie getaway, we would be happy to host you; please note the following:
- If there has been a lot of snow the private road from the street to the Bunkie is not plowed. Depending on the type of vehicle you are driving, you may have to park at the gate entrance and walk in (4-5min walk) to get to the Bunkie.
- There is a wood fireplace in the Bunkie for sleeping, it will keep you very toasty.
- There is lots of free wood available for an outside fire. We have a small grill available for cooking, bring your own coal.
- Bring your own extra blankets and sleeping bags.
- A bunkie with running water inside and outside and comes along with a hydro.
- NOTE: There are 2 other bunkies in the area and camping spots in the summer; you will have lots of privacy but be aware you may not be alone across the full 40 acres!

The bunkie has solar lighting for the evenings. If you don’t want to find your own firewood in the forest you can pick it up from locals on your way in for $5/bundle (see stands at the end of driveways).
It is a big chunk of land but you can't really get 'lost' on it for any significant period of time. We are bounded by roads so eventually you will find your way. But, if you aren't experienced in the woods you may want to keep your wandering short, to start, as you get familiar with the land.

We came during the winter and stayed in the bunkie for the weekend, and it was so beautiful and the wood stove kept us warm all night! Getting there was very easy, they even made a track for us right to the bunkie since the snow had been bad the days prior. Felt very secluded and was a perfect weekend! Would definitely recommend to anyone!

Spring Arbour bunkie was a magical experience for my husband and me. Although we were alone in the forest on our mid fall trip, we felt such a sense of peace cozied up in the glow of the wood stove. What a thrill to go up for a scenic ride in Erik’s ultra light two seater plane. We really lucked out finding this hipcamp. The instructions were excellent and the hosts very responsive.

The bunkie was great. Very cozy and comfortable. It was fantastic to have access both the forested area, and an open field for watching the sunset/sunrise or stars at night. Highly recommend this location in the fall when the leaves are changing. Close to Backus Woods, where I had a lovely hike as well.

I was given too much information. Bombarded with four different text walls of instructions, rules etc. all saying almost the same thing but slightly differently (or contradicting one another sometimes).
The only personal communication (aside from several pre-written ones) I received from hosts was a message that said "Okay only if you need please ##########." This was in response to my request that we communicate by phone number once I leave my house since I do not have internet on my phone. Honestly, it made me feel like I was bothering them if I had questions while I was there - and I did end up having questions about how to safely operate the air intake on the woodstove but I just decided to keep it to myself.

This place was awesome, but a touch expensive. After paying an extra $22 for firewood (necessary - it was close to 0C at night) and cleaning fees (I did all the cleaning because I was told to leave it better than I found it. There are not even sheets to change) it was 270 for 2 nights. At that rate, I expect to at least be welcomed by the hosts.

This was my second time at The Farm and this time I brought my kids, 3 and 6 years old. They loved it. Perfect weather to have a warm campfire and lots of space to run around and observe the farm equipment. They were so enamoured with the construction vehicles, the animals and of course Karen’s warm, funny and welcoming nature. She gave us a wonderful tour of the farm and the highlight was being able to feed the Alpacas. Karen thank you for your hospitality, the firewood, the coffee and hot chocolates! I was pretty tired from driving 9+ hours and was grateful I was able to settle in and have a quiet rest.
Spot is great for stargazing. I liked that it was easy access to a main road and not hard on my vehicle (mine isn’t built for off road).
Great tour, and super cute animals. Karen is very kind and cares about guests. Would choose to stay here again when passing through.

I really love the farm. My stay was really awesome as usual! Karen was amazing and always made sure I was taken care of and happy at her place. Overview
About
The fourth-oldest park in Ontario, Long Point Provincial Park is set in a World Biosphere Reserve with a unique habitat that makes the 370-acre park one of the finest bird-watching destinations in North America. Fishers come for the bass, while those looking for rest and relaxation will appreciate the more than two kilometres of soft-sand beaches and warm waters, both part of a 40-kilometre-long sandspit that provides natural shelter.
Notable campgrounds
- Best for peace and quiet: The radio-free Cottonwood Campground is a quiet choice.
- Best for socializing: Firefly Campground has lots of open space.
- Best for beach lovers: Turtle Dunes Campground has multiple sites with private paths leading directly to the beach.
- Best for novice campers: Monarch’s Rest Campground offers private, shady camping spots.
Tips for snagging a campsite
- All Ontario Provincial Parks accept reservations up to five months in advance of arrival.
- If you want a specific campground, book early to avoid disappointment.
- Reservations cannot be changed or canceled more than four months in advance. As such, if you miss out on a reservation when they open, wait patiently for the four-month mark to see if some cancellations roll in.
- Campers can shorten their stay and receive a full refund provided they amend the reservation before noon on their day of departure. If you’re searching for a last-minute booking, check around noon to see if you can grab one of these freshly canceled spots.
When to go
This seasonal park is open from mid-May until mid-October. Like most Ontario provincial parks, Long Point has a complete liquor ban on Victoria Day (the second to last Monday of May) and for the 10 days preceding it. Long Point Provincial Park operates a Discovery Drop-in program for kids in July and August.
Know before you go
- Long Point Provincial Park’s day-use area can be extremely busy on summer weekends. If you’re hoping to drop in to use the beach, arrive early.
- Long Point offers excellent fishing, especially for bass. A license is required for recreational fishing in Ontario and can be purchased through a number of local businesses. Fishing rods are available for loan at Long Point Provincial Park through the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters Tackleshare program.
- More than 300 species of songbirds and waterfowl migrate through Long Point every spring and fall. Birdwatchers should visit the Long Point Bird Observatory just outside the park. They can advise on when and where you’re likely to see specific species.
