Come and enjoy a traditional/rustic camping experience on the mighty Ottawa river. Be sure to bring your water shoes and a canoe or kayak, or you may rent one of ours. C-O-G is located on the Quebec side of the Ottawa River, east of the bridge that passes over from Hawkesbury, Ontario. This beautiful (mostly) deciduous forest (situated on both sides of the 344/Rte Des Outaouais), has been in the family for generations. The 59 acre property (50 acres on land, ~9 acres of river/water) features scenic views, privacy and is host to many outdoor activities such as swimming, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, hiking and more, with many other outdoor tourism attractions (white water rafting ~15kms, Parc Omega (zoo)) located nearby. By paddle boat, canoe, or other similar shallow depth water craft, one can head upriver, around an island, and loop back through the remaining historic canal. ...It's a historic lazy river! Many amenities are only 1-3km away, such as a gas station (with fast charging), a grocery store and many restaurants including a Tim Hortons and McDonalds. A little History... Our property has played host to a small portion of the rich history of this area which included three railway tracks, a canal and a lock. The railway beds remain and the lock has simply been flooded over. Following the war of 1812, three Ottawa river canal systems were constructed between 1819 and 1833 to bypass the Long Sault Rapids on the Ottawa river. These canals were in use until 1961 when a large portion of the canal system was submerged due to the construction of a hydro-electric dam (~22kms downriver) at Carillion. As a result, the river level at our property rose high enough to submerge the top of the lock walls by ~3.5 feet. This submerged lock is located a few hundred feet offshore and can be seen using Google Earth as it measures 50' x 300' in size. Once you have a good idea where it is, throw on your water shoes and a life jacket and enjoy an interesting experience of walking on the walls of a submerged lock.

Il y a une douche chauffée à pleine pression, des toilettes à compost, un évier extérieur et une station de cuisson. Il y a une cheminée dans la cabane avec beaucoup de bois. Le sol est principalement constitué de tremplins naturels, cueillis à la main dans les bois. La cabane est nichée dans une forêt magique de mousse et de fougères avec des lucioles, des hiboux, des cerfs et des renards. Il y a des sentiers de randonnée paisibles et entretenus. Un foyer extérieur de cuisine en forme de sphère sous des lampes solaires lucioles ajoute à l’expérience magique. Cabine Luciole is a heritage Sugar Maple Cabin built in the late 1800's. It is located in an mossy, old growth maple forest with towering majestic maple trees. It is built on a leyline by Irish (Erin) settlers, giving it powerful energy to rejuvinate. You can also walk the cretan labyrinth, to bring balance. The catherdral tin roof cabin has enough space for dinning, entertaining and yoga, it also has a sleeping loft for 2 people, and can be used as a reading nook, bring your own sleeping bags, pillows, and towels and you are welcome to set up a tent on the outdoor camping site. There is a heated full pressure shower, compost toilet and an outdoor sink and cooking station. The site is booked for complete privacy, only one group booking at a time, so you have your own private spot in the woods. There is a fireplace in the cabin with plenty of wood. The floor is mostly nature stepping stones, hand picked from the woods. The cabin is nestled in a moss and fern magical woods with fireflies, owls, deer, and foxes. There are groomed peaceful walking trails. A sphere shaped cooking outdoor fireplace under firefly solar lights adds to the magical experience. There are wonderful activates such as fishing, kayaking (Safari Kayak) and bike trails in the local area. Go back in time and experience the rare wisdom of the sugar maple trees that are over 150 feet tall. You will never want to leave, come back and see the trees colourful splendor in the fall and in early spring we plan to have hands on maple syrup making.

There are lakes in the area but not all are accessible 2 people ideal!....Bring your foamy, camp cots, camping mattress and own bedding, the floor of the cabin is insulated and clean, I'm going for the zen feeling with minimal furniture, a great place to dance, do yoga and bodywork, sound therapy ect... There is one tent sites to choose from near cabin. Pllease respect the peace of the forest Their is power in the cabin from the main house but it is still basically camping. The more independant yo are the better. Toaster oven and hot plate, kettle provided but no running water. Currently setting up outdoor camp shower. Our property has played host to a small portion of the rich history of this area which included three railway tracks, a canal and a lock. The railway beds remain and the lock has simply been flooded over. Following the war of 1812, three Ottawa river canal systems were constructed between 1819 and 1833 to bypass the Long Sault Rapids on the Ottawa river. These canals were in use until 1961 when a large portion of the canal system was submerged due to the construction of a hydro-electric dam (~22kms downriver) at Carillion. As a result, the river level at our property rose high enough to submerge the top of the lock walls by ~3.5 feet. This submerged lock is located a few hundred feet offshore and can be seen using Google Earth as it measures 50' x 300' in size. Once you have a good idea where it is, throw on your water shoes and a life jacket and enjoy an interesting experience of walking on the walls of a submerged lock.

'Whispering Pines' was bought about 35 years ago as our dream retirement home, a place to rest, have a quiet life, enjoy nature and have a peaceful retirement for ever and ever...In past years we have been a family camp. and an event camp with camping festivals, special events, and day visits. Nature is allowed to thrive on our property, and the entire property is forested and wild. The majority of our campsites are shaded under a verdant and lush canopy. Our private beach and small lake welcome you for a swim. All we ask of our visitors is: that whatever you bring in you take home with you, that you leave your campsite and the property the way you found it, and the only thing you take from here are pictures and happy memories. All of our campsites are off-grid, un-serviced, drive-in camping. Campfire wood and recycling facilities are available on site. Maintained outhouses are available throughout the property. There is no potable water on the property so please bring your own drinking and cooking water. Children under 12 can camp for free. When booking a campsite please only include any guests over 12 years of age in your guest count. Children under 12 do not need to be included in your booking. Contact us to inquire about large group and event rates. We host LARPing weekends twice a month. We also have a limited number of seasonal sites available from June to September. I love this property and all the people who visit us, many have become extended family and for this I am grateful. There is nothing nicer than to have people drop by and spend a couple of hours, a day or a weekend, sometime when I get real lucky it's for a longer period of time :-)

Overview

Just over 60 kilometres from the centre of Montreal, Mirabel may be best known as the location of the city's airport, but this town offers its own ever-increasing appeal to visitors. In addition to charming, hole-in-the-wall Quebecois restaurants and a racetrack, the town also features an incredible botanical garden and ziplining through nature. Mirabel is on the doorstep of the Laurentian Mountains and several national parks, while a number of parks and trails also sit within its boundaries. Campers can find a range of private campgrounds in and around Mirabel, as well as public campground options in all of the nearby national parks.

When to go

A year-round destination, Mirabel is a great place to visit whatever the season, depending on what it is you're looking to do. Sub-zero temperatures mean Quebec winter camping is primarily for adventurous campers, though many parks offer both winter sites and rustic cabins. Summer camping in Mirabel can be a very cost-effective way to stay close to Montreal at a fraction of the cost of staying in the city proper.

Know before you go

There are tons of places to charge electric vehicles in and around Mirabel.
Public transit can get visitors around, but life will be a lot easier and cheaper with your own car or campervan.
Mirabel's outlet mall has a North Face store for those who might want to pick up camping bargains. A number of outdoor outfitters are also in the area.
Most people in Montreal speak English well, but it won’t hurt to have a translation app handy on your phone.
