Quebec is a kind of promised land for campers, with vast swathes of parkland and sparsely inhabited wilderness—you won’t have trouble getting outside. North of Montreal and Quebec City, forested mountains and lake-dotted valleys dominate the landscape with endless hiking, fishing, and canoeing opportunities during reliably warm summers. To the east, the St. Lawrence River is one of Canada’s best whale-watching destinations.

Winter, though cold, proves no obstacle to the adventure-hungry. Our advice? Pack your thermals. That way, you can spend days ice climbing, snowshoeing, and skiing, and nights cozied up in a cabin, an insulated tent, a yurt, or even an igloo. As a general rule, the further north you go, the wilder the landscapes and fewer the facilities.

The rounded peaks of the Laurentians are the destination of choice from Montreal and Quebec City. Jacques-Cartier, Mont-Tremblant (both part of the provincial park system), and La Mauricie (part of the national park network) have four-season appeal. You can get in some rafting, kayaking, and hiking in summer, while in winter, heated cabins, huts, and yurts mean you can wake up, strap on your skis or snowshoes, and hit the trails with minimal fuss.

The St. Lawrence River meets the Atlantic at this cliff-edged peninsula—also known as Gaspésie—on Quebec’s east coast. Scan the shoreline for whales in Forillon National Park between May and October, or cat ski on virgin powder in the Chic-Choc Mountains in the icier months.

French for ‘North Shore,’ this section of the Gulf of Saint Lawrence is ripe for road-tripping. Coastal campsites at Tadoussac overlook Saguenay Fjord, a hangout for belugas, and further east, at Mingan Archipelago National Park Reserve, you can set eyes on strange sea-carved rock formations and hide out on secluded offshore islands.

This farming region near the U.S. border gives off New England vibes—think covered bridges, clapboard towns, and flaming fall foliage. It’s also Quebec’s premier wine-growing region. Mont-Orford is popular for skiing or hiking, and the stargazing at Mont-Mégantic National Park is—excuse the pun—stellar.

Visitor footfall is low in Nunavik, home to the Inuit in the Arctic north. Little surprise why: There’s no road access. Nunavik Parks offers packages to the area’s four parks (Pingualuit, Kuururjuaq, Tursujuq, and Ulittaniujalik) including flights from Montreal, Inuit cultural experiences, and the chance to see the northern lights.

The 59 acre property (50 acres on land, ~9 acres of river/water) features scenic views, privacy and is host to many outdoor activities such as swimming, canoeing, kayaking, fishing and more. The Point... The main shared area "The Point", is the peninsula that the main roadway ends at (where the BBQ, kayaks and canoes are), this is a shared area for us and our guests to enjoy. The Point offers a large picnic table, a propane BBQ, comfortable seating, a large rock perfect for sunbathing, and a river view. It's an ideal spot for swimming and launching canoes, kayaks, or paddle-board river excursions, thanks to its shallow entry and rocky bottom. Adventurous visitors might choose to paddle upriver, around an island, and return through the remaining historic canal. For a more strenuous workout, consider paddling up the canal to the Grenville lighthouse and then drifting all the way back to camp with the river's current. Enjoy this historic, lazy river experience! Nearby Amenities... Numerous amenities are located within a distance of 1-3 kms, including a gas station with electric vehicle charging facilities, an IGA grocery store, and various restaurants such as McDonald's and Tim Horton's. For a classic poutine experience, Jos Patate is a great choice, having been around for many decades. If you're looking for a wide range of poutine options, La Fromagerie is the place to go and for ice cream lovers, La Crémière is located in the same building! ...It is a "must-visit" on a hot summer day. Tourism... Numerous tourist attractions are conveniently located in the vicinity, such as the exhilarating white water rafting experience on the Rouge River and the wildlife-filled Parc Omega zoo, both within a short 10-25 km distance. For a wider range of activities, day trips to Ottawa, Montreal, the Calypso water park, or Mont Tremblant are all approximately an hour's drive away.

The property was sold to a family that emigrated to Canada from Europe, to set begin a new life post WW2. Unfortunately, we can't be there to welcome you, but feel free to feel like home. /The Property You will enjoy an open field with views to the sea. The front area of the house is suitable for bigger RVs. The back site is suitable for smaller RV +/- 20ft. or so. Note that the campsite is not near the water. The part of land is our neighbor's but we have foot access to it. /The Campsite The site is ideal for all camping types. For tenters, there is a flat grassy area. RVs of any size are welcome in the front, it is a back-in site with some leveling required. As mentioned above, good maneuvering skills are required to get access to the back. There is a electrical/water hookup and generators are welcome. There is WIFI available. Pets on leash are welcome. Fires are permitted (when there are no fire bans in effect). Please note, there are no restroom facilities available on site, but there are bathrooms in the "halte routière" next door. Please bring your trash with you as there's no trash on the premises.

Weekend Trip to Camp, Ottawa river, Grenville C-O-G

Perfect camp site riverside. One of the best campsites I’ve stayed at. It even came with a hammock! The deck where I pitched my tent was right on the water. Loved listening to the river. And though there are a few other campsites around, everything felt very private. Also Brian could not have been more accommodating. I was starting a three-week camping trip, and this was my first stop. Would have loved to stay the next day and swim in the river, but the weather turned to rain, so I headed out. I also appreciated how prompt Brian was at answering my messages/questions. Great spot!

Wir waren erst später angekommen, aber Jean Luc hatte uns schon per App informiert wo wir uns hinstellen sollten. Der Platz ist für eine Übernachtung super und die Gastgeber super freundlich.

1 night at Domaine de la Templerie

Wonderful spot to stay for the night or even a few days. Power and water were nice to have. Good supply of firewood and nice sites. Next time we will be sure to book in for dinner. We loved the peace and quiet. Cynthia was very responsive and helpful.

Le site Maple Loop est vraiment très beau, on a accès à une terrasse sur le bord de la rivière des Outaouais! Tranquille et paisible. Très intéressant pour ceux qui aiment « chiller » près de l’eau. Par contre, ma copine et moi sommes des randonneurs et n’avons rien trouvé d’activités de plein-air à faire dans les environs. Ce site n’est pas pour des gens comme nous (avis aux autres randonneurs).

Deuxième fois que nous passons quelques jours là et toujours aussi merveilleux. Lieu paisible. Le propriétaire est attentionné. Nous y retournerons encore bientôt. Les animaux sont acceptés ce qui est un plus pour nous.

My husband, myself and two small dogs stayed the night in our roof top tent at the Maple Loop site. The area is beautiful and perfect for camping. The small private deck by the river was nice for drinks in the evening and coffee in the morning. Our host was very friendly and made us feel right at home. We will definitely be back!
