Our pretty cabins are perfect for folks to enjoy some glamping in the country, on the farm surrounded by friendly animals.  You can arrange to have a tour of the farm and hang out with donkeys, mini horses, llamas, alpacas, pigs, bunnies, sheep, goats, peacocks, ducks and chickens.  We have a lovely pond, and acres of forest you can explore.  Our farm is on a quiet country road where you can take a walk and enjoy the peace and quiet and connect with nature and one another without the distractions of wifi, street noises or city lights. We are within minutes of the Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park with all there is to see and do there, such as hiking, paddling, exploring, swimming.  We have a fire pit where you can enjoy a spectacular night sky unimpeded by any other lights. The cabin has electricity, lights, electric fireplace for heat. In the cabin we have a double bed, a table and 2 chairs, a two-burner stove with oven, a washing up station. Fall asleep listening to owls call and wolves howling in the distance.  Wake to the sounds of the animals on the farm, you may even be able to arrange to gather your own eggs for breakfast! We are confident you won't want to leave the farm, but in case you choose to explore beyond our 98 acres there is lots to still see and do within only a short drive. We are located close to Buckhorn, where you can explore more lakes, pick your own berries or visit pumpkin patches, pick up groceries or enjoy the restaurants in Buckhorn.  Also, in nearby Bobcaygeon you can find world-class shopping and dining, parks, beaches, festivals, a heritage village, and even more lakes. We are a small hobby farm set within a mature forest setting. There are two, newly built tiny home bunkies that are situated in private areas of our property, yet close enough to our main house for security, Each bunkie has a modern outhouse with composting toilets and non potable water for washing Guests will have the opportunity to commune with nature as we have a multitude of bird species and there is always good possibilities of wildlife viewing, as guests stroll down the nature trails. There are plenty of very cool areas along the trail where guests are able to participate in forest bathing/meditation or can just relax and listen to the wind rustling through the leaves of the trees. We have a couple of very gentle horses on our farm, that if anyone wishes, can schedule a time meet them and do some therapy grooming. My wife and I went there to stay the weekend, we loved that and we are definitely going there again! Angela and Arnold are awesome hosts! We felt super welcomed to their place. The place is lovely and seems that it has come out straight from a storybook, the birds that come at our hands, super relaxing and intimate. They have a nice bbq, the space is well organized and clean, and have everything that we needed to just relax without worries. If you are wondering if you should go there’s or not, take my word, you are gonna love it, please go. To Angela and Arnold, thank you so much for the great conversations and laughter, we felt like we’ve known each other for a while!

My 5 yr old loved every single moment here especially the beautiful animals. She fed them, played with them and even held a bunny. It was a dream come true for her. The cabin is perfect for a weekend getaway, it's beautifully designed and maintained and is tucked away in the woods which gives you your privacy and lots of trails to explore. I went in early October so got to see beautiful fall colors. Yvonne and Glenn were wonderful hosts, very friendly and lovely people. I'd definitely recommend this place.

Weekend Trip to Dragonfly Ridge Rescue Farm

We made a spontaneous plan for glamping at the Roost with hardly any preparation and were lucky to find a site. It was a really great experience. Our stay at the cabin was comfortable, though we didn’t have sleeping bags, our blankets were enough to keep us cozy. Sharon was very kind and gave us a wholesome tour of her farm. My kids loved feeding the animals, and bottle-feeding the baby goat was one of the highlights of the farm experience. My daughter especially enjoyed holding the goats and bunnies. Sharon also helped us light the campfire in the evening. Overall, we loved how time seemed to slow down, giving us the chance to truly savor the rustic beauty of nature.

3 nights at Coutts Farm

Lisa's property was amazing! Lots of room, beautiful view of everything. Saw deer every day! Loved the outhouse, we are used to privies at Algonquin but the outhouse was way better - especially with the rain we had. She was great with communication and even checked to make sure we were ok after a big gusty windy rainy period of time. We will definitely be back! Thanks so much Lisa.

Where to go

Algonquin Provincial Park

Algonquin Provincial Park is just north of Haliburton and uniquely comprises both deciduous forest and coniferous forest. Hikers have the chance to encounter moose, deer, black bears, and wolves. The park offers backcountry hiking, canoe routes, cross country skiing trails, and even dog sledding in winter. Campers are close to local campsites near the water or luxurious dome tents among the trees.

Barnum Creek Nature Reserve

Spanning more than 600 acres of land, Barnum Creek Nature Reserve includes three short hiking trails for all levels, as well as locations for snowshoeing, cycling, and birdwatching, Barnum Creek is a collection of ecosystems with biomes ranging from hardwood forests of towering maple to marshes and swamps that are home to skinks, turtles, and more. Overnight camping in the park isn’t permitted, but nearby campgrounds include primitive sites and cabins with electricity.

Killbear Provincial Park

Killbear Provincial Park is a bit further from Haliburton on the rocky shores of the picturesque Georgian Bay with 1,760 hectares of sandy beaches, rugged shorelines, and dramatic, windswept conifer trees. The park’s waters are a popular destination for sailing, windsurfing, canoeing, and kayaking, and the perimeter trail is a great way to explore the park on foot or by bike. Check in at a nearby glampsite, or spend the night at a campground by a Haliburton swimming hole.

When to go

Weather in Haliburton is seasonal, with activities on offer year-round. For winter activities like dog sledding, snowshoeing, or cross country skiing, the colder months are preferred—be prepared for low temperatures (average January lows of -14.7°C) and snow (average January snow depth of 22.4 cm). Spring, summer, and fall are characterized by mild weather and a healthy balance of sun and rain. Summer is black bear season in Ontario—always practice bear safety (e.g. keep food safely stored, educate yourself on how to deal with a bear encounter).
