We own 58 acres of forest centered on a very old shale pit near Crescent Beach, Nova Scotia. Our long-term mission is to regenerate the landscape, returning all of the property to a forest in time. We hope to establish small camping compounds for family, friends and guests who would like to stay with us and enjoy the amazing scenery of Nova Scotia's beautiful South Shore. Located just below Huey Lake, our property is watered by a stream that flows from the lake, through a series of tiny waterfalls in a gorge, through beautiful pine, maple, and oak forest down to a meandering wetland that drains into the Petite Riviere watershed. Beavers are active in the area and have already begun the process of returning the old quarry to the wilderness. Their activities have created deep ponds where once there was a pit dug from the land for the shale that is abundant in this area. The beavers dammed and diverted the stream which has created a pond and wetland system at the lower end of the property. If you are very quiet in the early morning you may get to see Castor as he busily swims about his watery home. Located near some of the most beautiful features of Lunenburg County, our property is a 5-minute drive from Crescent Beach, Risser's Beach Provincial Park, and Petite Riviere. Opportunities to cycle, hike, swim, canoe, kayak, surf and sail are all around us.

Highlights: screened in porch (morning coffees were the best), hospitality was amazing, special breakfast add on was so lovely and delicious! A must have! This place was amazing. From the moment you drive in the driveway you instantly know that you will be able to disconnect and unwind. The hosts, Gary and Chantelle, along with their fur baby, Fern, went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. They were very friendly and kind! The location itself was wonderfully situated in the forest. The screened in porch allowed for an immersive forest experience from dawn to dusk. The place has everything you need! BREAKFAST!!!! Oh My Goodness! Chantelle is a gifted cook/baker and you can tell! Our breakfast (delivered to our door) was money well spent! It was amazing! I will be returning to this place again and again. I can't rave about it enough!

Moss Cottage is a perfect little escape from everyday chaos. They have built a gorgeous cabin that has everything you could need to be comfortable and more. The cabin is an 8 minute walk into the woods from Chantelle’s house so there is a lot of privacy while still being able to drive into town for groceries if needed each day. The property is about a 10 minute drive from Annapolis Royal which is a great destination for a day trip. I can’t wait to visit again!

Our stay was awesome! The place had all the necessary amenities and was peaceful and quiet throughout, with only the sounds of nature surrounding us. The kayaks and canoe were a lot of fun and made the experience even more enjoyable. We especially loved the decks overlooking the lake—the views were beautiful and so relaxing. We also got to experience the camp during some rain, which added to the charm. Unfortunately, we couldn't have a campfire because there was a fire ban, but that was understandable. Overall, we had a wonderful stay and would definitely recommend this place to others.

The perfect mix of camp and glamp with privacy, peace and serenity. This is a great spot for a couple, friends or young family to enjoy the outdoors together. With animals on the farm, trails on the property, location close to Amherst and attentive hosts, you can't get much better than this! Bring some sunscreen, bugspray and smore stuff for the ultimate unwind and relaxing time. This was a beautiful solo and safe getaway if you just want some time to yourself. I will definitely be back if I ever need some time alone to journal and read. Thanks again!

Weekend Trip to Moss Cottage Forest Glamping

We had the best time at Moss Cottage during our last minute getaway from the city. Chantelle and Gary have created a magical little hideaway in the forest with everything you could need to disconnect for a while and tune into nature. We can't wait to get back there one day and would definitely recommend to anyone who is ready to enjoy life off grid for a moment. And we are pleasantly surprised by homemade scones on arrival, what a delicious treat! Thank you both so much!!

We had such a fantastic stay at this off-grid cabin. The hosts were warm and welcoming, and the cabin was thoughtfully stocked with everything we needed. It was spotless, cozy, and perfectly tucked away in the trees for a peaceful getaway. We loved the firepit, the nearby trails, the open field, and especially the pet emus — such a fun and memorable touch. Highly recommend for anyone looking to unplug and relax in nature! Amenities just a few minutes away makes this a perfect location.

Absolutely loved our stay! The camp had all the basic necessities for off grid, with perfect layout and warm decor. The land and trails were so fun to explore. Snowshoeing and winter bonfire were great - peaceful nature retreat at its best. Dawn and Terry were very much great hosts, with directions and explanations at the start, even lending us a sled for our unrequired heavy packs, as well as letting us know to reach out anytime if anything more needed. No need for that, the cabin already had all we needed for a weekend stay, along with special touches. The games and puzzles were a great addition too! Thanks so much for sharing your piece of paradise!!

We surprised my parents with a stay at Bootsie Back 40 Cabin for their 40th anniversary, and it was absolutely perfect! The hosts went above and beyond with every detail. The cabin itself is so cozy and welcoming, surrounded by stunning fall colors that made the whole experience magical. My parents loved the peace and quiet — they spent their mornings sipping tea while listening to the birds sing. The hosts were wonderfully friendly and even took photos of my parents for me, which was such a thoughtful touch. They also got to visit the farm animals (including two emus!), which they absolutely adored. Thank you for helping me give my parents such a memorable and heartfelt experience. This will be a trip they’ll cherish forever!
