The Old Canoe

5 sites · Lodging15 acres · Cumberland Bay, NB
Welcome to "The Old Canoe"!  Our 15-acre shore-front property is located along the Cumberland Bay Stream in Cumberland Bay, New Brunswick, Canada. An outdoor enthusiast's dream, we offer unique vacation rentals which provide a camping experience with lots of extras, class and charm.  They are perfect retreats for couples, or for singles looking for a much-needed get-away.  Those who vacation here experience a mix of modern conveniences, along with some off-grid or old-fashioned rustic charm. SUPER BONUS:  Registered guests can enjoy FREE use of our canoes and kayaks at our shore (depending on weather conditions). (Note that SWIMMING IS NOT ADVISED, as it is somewhat muddy/marshy, and shallow) ... but it's PERFECT for small watercraft. Hipcamp named us a runner-up for the best Hipcamp to visit in New Brunswick in 2023, and we look forward to providing a great experience in 2024! WHAT TO PACK:  Food and ice in a cooler, and your clothes!  You may also want to bring rubber boots or water shoes, sunscreen, and bug spray. Rentals are stocked with just about everything else you'll need for a great stay, including books and games, bedding, dishes and cooking utensils, propane BBQ, private campfire area, hammocks, shared fancy Outhouses, Outdoor shower, and more! FOR DETAILS ON WHAT'S INCLUDED WITH VACATION RENTALS, TAKE A LOOK AT THE INDIVIDUAL LISTINGS. We live on this property, and over the years we have enjoyed all it has to offer.  In 2021, we decided to give others the opportunity to enjoy it too! If you're looking for a place to enjoy nature and solitude.  THIS IS IT! To be candid, this IS NOT a party place!  So, if that's what you're looking for, this is definitely NOT for you!  Our goal is to provide a safe and peaceful place for our guests (and us) to Relax, Get Outdoors and Enjoy Nature, Get Back To Basics, and to Unplug and Unwind! Here at "The Old Canoe", we currently have two vacation rentals (Cabin 4, and "Main Street" the Bus).  These are available in the warmer months only.  We may add a couple more in the future, but our goal is to keep it small and quaint so that our guests have their space and enjoy their privacy. Cell phone service is very poor in this area, so it's a great opportunity to UNPLUG and get away from the daily hustle and bustle!  We do provide Free LIMITED Wi-Fi for registered guests who would like to check messages or emails, etc. This property has a variety of terrain, including clearings, forest, thickets, paths, maple groves, and the Cumberland Bay Stream which flows through marsh wetlands and empties into Grand Lake (the largest fresh water lake in New Brunswick).  It offers an abundance of wildlife, plant life, fresh air, tranquility, relaxation, and has the ideal setting for leisurely water sports such as canoeing, kayaking, row boating, or paddle boarding. During your stay, you might see birds such as woodpeckers, wild turkeys, ducks, geese, cranes, or eagles.  You may even catch a glimpse of foxes, deer, moose, otters, beavers, frogs, or turtles!  Don’t forget your camera! Have a siesta or read a book while relaxing in your hammocks.  Stroll through paths or the Shore Road, and Relax in various seating areas throughout our property. If you plan on going fishing, it is your responsibility to check with Natural Resources and Energy Development for license information.  We do not provide fishing gear. Cumberland Bay is a small community, centrally located between three major New Brunswick cities (Fredericton, Moncton, and Saint John).  It has it's own volunteer Fire Department, churches, and a small public wharf nearby (The Range Wharf). The nearby communities of Young's Cove, Waterborough, and Chipman are all within a 10 to 15 minute drive.  You'll find churches, convenience stores, gas bars, take-outs, local markets, public swimming, marina, and boat launch.  In your vacation rental, there is a Welcome Binder with detailed information about these places. Come to Cumberland Bay and experience this hidden gem of nature! Get back to the basics, Unplug, Unwind, Enjoy nature ... RELAX! Check out our separate listings for full descriptions, pictures, availability, or to book your stay!

Trip 'n Daisy's Hippie Hangout

11 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents50 acres · NB
Trip 'n Daisy and their little shih tzu McGee live in rural New Brunswick, nestled on 50 acres of mostly forested land. We treasure where we live, the long winding country roads, the pristine lakes and rivers nearby. We live in nature and respect it. Wildlife is abundant and being on a game trail we regularly see wild turkeys, porcupines, raccoons, skunk, fox, coyote, deer, moose, bear and whatever else mosey's on by! Bring a camera, you never know who might come to visit! Along the Chiputneticook lakes and river crossings, there are multiple lakes near by and a creeks and rivers that used to be used as the main method of transportation of food and goods along the way - from the Saint John River to the St. Croix River, there is much history and many untouched areas that remain mostly in their natural state. We are located 2 minutes (drive) near East Grand Lake, we are on Forest City Road, Fosterville, which is located between 2 border crossings - Fosterville, NB/Orient, ME and Forest City, NB/Forest City, ME. So whether you are heading to or from the USA, or exploring New Brunswick you can find us here! We are about 1 hour from Woodstock, NB, 1.5 hours from Fredericton, NB, 45 minutes from Houlton, ME or 25 to Danforth, ME. We are about 2.5 hours to Edmunston, NB and the Quebec border crossing, 3 hours to Moncton or Saint John, NB. You can access many trails to hike, bike, ATV, walk. There are many lakes/rivers to swim, boat, kayak or canoe. Book a space - you can rent our Aliner Hippie Peace and Love Shack OR our vintage 1973 Golden Falcon which has been tripped out '60's style! You can bring an RV or trailer - max 30 feet - we find that A Class motor homes are often too big or heavy so don't recommend them. We have 3 spaces for RV's & trailers that belong to YOU! On our property you will be surrounded by ash and pine trees. A large weeping willow. There is an outhouse available, garbage and recycling, if in an RV or trailer we have 3 spots that provide 30amp power and water is available by hose to fill up if needed. Tents - we have many spaces but your location will be your choice, find a nice spot, that is flat. The outhouse is available. There are no showers on site at this time, however, the lake is lovely! This is a rustic, restful place for quiet, respite, sharing community and being a trippie hippie! We are starting out offering 6 tenting sites - you choose your site upon arrival. We have an arts/craft gallery on site as well as a darts room for a rainy night! Wifi and cell service are not available here, if you are on US roaming you can get service and some cell providers provide spotty service. There is a public wifi location 5 minutes away if you need to connect. We have a landline for emergencies. Trip 'n Daisy have traveled throughout Atlantic Canada including Newfoundland in their vintage Hippie Hangout 1973 Golden Falcon - it is now available to rent - you can sleep 2 to 3 people comfortably in the space. It is decked out with a cool '60's vibe - hand painted inside and out with Trip's artful flair and includes a toilet, sinks, fridge, cooktop, water, table/dinette that flips into the second bed. Dishes/pots/basic cooking needs, etc. Bedding can be included for an extra fee - but you can bring your own! They also towed their Aliner pop up trailer - the Hippie Peace & Love Shack. It includes an RV size double bed, suitable for a couple as well as a dinette that folds into a second single bed. There is a fridge, cooktop and table/dinette that flips into a second single bed. There is no toilet but we have added a cassette toilet for you, for night use, and there is water in the space. Again, we recommend you bring your own bedding but we can supply for an additional fee. We do have access to Electric Vehicle charging - either a wall outlet Level 1 or a Level 2 charger - which is free for 2 hours or for a fee for longer charges. We have lawn furniture on the grounds to share and to use around the communal fire pit. Fire pit in one location only and based on current fire rules/bans. There are NO stores or gas stations nearby, so please ensure you fill up with supplies/fuel before venturing down the country road! Full details on site location and instructions for driving will be supplied upon booking. Due to wildlife in the area we REQUIRE that ALL food is put away at night and during the day when not eating. If you are tenting please bring a secure cooler and place in locked vehicles at night. We have a dog and he is ALWAYS on leash - if you bring a dog - you MUST ALWAYS pick up after it (our dog does not use our yard as a toilet, so we prefer yours doesn't either); dogs must be on leash and/or in a secure fenced area. This is not only for our dogs safety, but for yours, remember wildlife! We have been here for 13 years, as British Columbian transplants, we love this property and home and hope that you have a great experience as well! When camping we will always have one person available if you need us! Many people like to call this a home base as they travel across the USA border for day trips or to shop! Feel free to do so! Because Trip 'n Daisy are trippy hippies and enjoy nature, we recommend adults are most suitable for this site. Peace and love, Trip 'n Daisy Feel free to message with any questions, the more information you have, the better!

Glamping in New Brunswick with fishing guide

Overview

Having flown under the radar for quite some time, New Brunsick is one of Canada’s most intriguing spots, sandwiched between Maine in the United States to the west and the Atlantic Ocean to the east. Evidence of Acadian and First Nations cultures is everywhere, from food to historical sites, and the famed Bay of Fundy offers sandy beaches and coastlines forged by the world’s highest tides. The towns of Saint John, Fredericton, and Moncton serve as gateways to expansive national and provincial parks, meaning that New Brunswick campgrounds and RV parks make for great spots to stay the night as you get out into nature. Though most campers visit in summer for warmth or fall as the leaves change, cold-weather activities and snowy glamping opportunities in chalets are winter draws.

Eastern Fundy Shore

The Bay of Fundy is known for having the highest tides in the world—you can either walk the ocean floor when the tide is out, or kayak among the tall flowerpot rocks when it’s in. The waterfront town of Alma serves as the gateway to Fundy National Park, a New Brunswick must-see with two dozen waterfalls, countless hiking trails, and even a swimming pool and golf course. Park camping options include front-country and backcountry campsites, yurts, cabins, and RV camping with hookups.

Moncton and Kouchibouguac National Park

From Moncton, you can access the white sands at Parlee Beach Provincial Park, the town of Shediac (the self-proclaimed lobster capital of the world, complete with massive, climbable lobster at the town entrance), and a handful of RV resort parks. Drive up the eastern coast to explore sand dunes, salt marshes, and forest trails in Kouchibouguac National Park, a Canadian Dark Sky Preserve.

Saint John and the Bay of Fundy

Set on the Bay of Fundy and easily accessed from the U.S. border, the former industrial town of Saint John is the most well-known in New Brunswick. It’d be hard to visit the province without a stop in at the breweries and boutiques here, but the port city is also surrounded by nature and opportunities for beach camping and RV stays. RV and tent camping can be found right in Saint John, while oceanfront campgrounds dot the nearby resort town of Saint Andrews.

Northern New Brunswick

The sparsely populated northern part of New Brunswick is known for remote camping and hiking opportunities. Climb the province's highest peaks and get treated to a view of 10 million trees in Mount Carleton Provincial Park, or head east to Caraquet, the heart of Acadian New Brunswick, to gorge on traditional foods and immerse yourself in the unique culture.
