Weekend Trip to Camas Creek Retreat
We enjoyed our weekend stay in the cabin! Upon arrival, Heloise and Ruth were welcoming and showed my husband and I around the property, and the details of the cabin space. It’s about a 40 minute drive from downtown Victoria and easy to find markets and shops from the cabin. The cabin has a fence around the front and is backed up against a small hillside. The bedroom is complete enclosed in the cabin space, but the rest (kitchen, dining, and shower) are more of an open concept space. Outside has a cozy ceiling heater where we played cards on the table in the evenings after a long day of adventuring and touristing around. There is plenty of space for cooking and lots of pots and pans. Plus a mini fridge for cold drinks of food items. The shower is outside against the hillside, and the toilet is compostable (don’t worry instructions are posted inside). Inside, the cabin has a full size bed which slept my husband and I comfortably. A space heater in case it’s cold, and extra blankets. The cabin is located on-site where the owners live, just a ways from their house, and near another neighbor that shares the driveway. WiFi is available if needed. My advice for showering is 1.) shower in the evening/ at night since it’s sort of open space and during the day some children were outside playing and 2.) undress inside of the shower space before turning the water on for maximum privacy. But it is a nice hot shower! We had a great stay, had everything we needed, and felt right at home.

Weekend Trip to Camas Creek Retreat
Had the best time at camas creek cabin. Heloise and her family are wonderful and got us fresh produce of fruits from their garden to welcome us and also when we were leaving. The property is so peaceful and exactly what we wanted - away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The open kitchen and shower were super nice and we had a great time there . Ruth was incredibly sweet and helped us understand the life there. Their pup jeena is the cutest

We enjoyed our one night stay at this lovely secluded campsite in the forest! Andrew was so welcoming and kind and we loved chatting with him. We appreciated the thoughtful touches like the solar lights. The outdoor shower is super cool - we weren't brave enough to use it on this chilly weekend, but it would be sooo lovely and refreshing in summer time! The Orpington campsite is situated a good distance away from the house and other sites, so it feels secluded and private. We slept really well on the soft ground. Overall, would recommend and would definitely stay here again in the summer time :)

This was a lovely woodland site to pitch my tent in for three nights while bikepacking. Shady, quiet, peaceful. I appreciated the refreshing outdoor shower, with the view over ferns. The outhouse (cute, clean) and shower were close to the site. Sandra was friendly and the eggs were delicious! Location was perfect. I will definitely go again.

We stayed for the weekend in site 1. It was the furthest from the house , so nice and private and quiet. We did a wine tour on our e bikes and went swimming at the River . It was a lovely stay, and the hosts were great and even left fresh tomatoes . I would definitely recommend !

This is the perfect place to stay for a small group or pair. On a good day, it’s a quick 30 minute drive into Victoria.
The surrounding area is beautiful! Rabbits, chickens, and a gorgeous garden. The hosts were very kind, friendly and gave us some produce from their garden. It was a quiet, private area and has all the amenities you’ll need: wifi, hot water, cooking appliances/basics, indoor bed. We couldn’t recommend this place more! Thanks for a lovely stay.

Heloise's place was an absolutely gorgeous and wonderful place to stay in. We were very comfortable and cozy in the place and it felt very open and spacious. highly recommend for however long of a retreat or stay you would need. Heloise was also really kind to gift us with some pears and tomatoes from their farm in the morning. Got a chance to meet Gina (wonderful dog). All the best - and looking forward to staying again in the future :)

Awesome hosts. It was rainy and a teeny bit chilly so they brought us two umbrellas and two blankets - so thoughtful. They were very responsive with any questions we had.
LOVED the outdoor shower and kitchen. Very cozy room for sleeping in and comfy bed.

The land here is very beautiful with tall trees and very lush ferns. Love waking to the ravens and various birds call out in the morning. Cute outbuildings (shower/outhouse) are well kept. Also love hearing the chickens and rooster. Location is great if you want to walk "to town" for coffee, food, groceries, or little beach.

Where to go
Gulf Islands National Park Reserve
This national park protects sections of Vancouver Island as well as several smaller islands offshore. Campers can choose from front country, backcountry, and boat-in campgrounds. The 49-site SMONEĆTEN (McDonald) Campground is closest to Victoria, on a biking trail and regional bus line, convenient to the Swartz Bay Ferry.
The Cowichan Valley
Vancouver Island’s wine making and agricultural center is a great region for food and wine-lovers to explore. For campers, you’ll find RV parks, provincial parks, and lakeside camping spots.
Sooke
Hikers can tromp along scenic walking trails near Sooke on Vancouver Island’s south coast, with its rocky shores along the Pacific Ocean. Camp near the sea in French Beach Provincial Park.
Port Renfrew
Continue west of Sooke to the end of the road—literally. Highway 14 ends in this tiny town, where campers can park their RVs or pitch their tents by the Pacific, follow hiking trails through the rainforest, and watch the waves roll in.
When to go
With one of the mildest climates in Canada, Victoria is a year-round destination. You can comfortably camp anytime between March and October, perhaps with just a little drizzle. During the mild, dry summer (late June to Labour Day in early September), Victoria is packed with day-trippers and camping areas are busy. September and October bring cooler weather and fewer crowds, while wildflowers bloom across the island from March through May. Although winters are rainy, temperatures rarely drop below freezing.
Know before you go
- BC Ferries transports cars, bikes, and foot passengers between mainland British Columbia and Vancouver Island. From Vancouver, catch the ferry at Tsawwassen, 36 kilometres south of the city, to Swartz Bay, 37 kilometres north of downtown Victoria.
- You can reach the Tsawwassen terminal by subway and bus from downtown Vancouver, and regular buses travel between Swartz Bay and Victoria as well. The Victoria region is well laid out for cycling, too.
- From Washington State to downtown Victoria, the Clipper high-speed catamaran transports foot passengers from Seattle, while the Black Ball Ferry takes cars and people from Port Angeles.
- At the Fort Rodd Hill and Fisgard Lighthouse National Historic Sites west of downtown Victoria, campers can sleep in oTENTiks, Parks Canada’s platform tents, on the grounds of a historic fort.
