The Forest Sanctuary Bell Tent is our newest addition at Forest Sanctuary and is located within the beautiful Forest Sanctuary Campground in Roberts Creek on the Sunshine Coast. The Bell Tent is set up and ready to use. All you need to bring are your sleeping bags and sleeping mats or mattresses.
Renting the Bell Tent offers use of all amenities that Forest Sanctuary has to offer. We have a communal covered outdoor kitchen and lounge with all cookware, dishware and utensils provided. Barbecue and Coleman stove with propane provided. We have a great communal fire pit where you can meet fellow campers from around the world. Also available are solar showers, a great open air outhouse, drinking water and firewood.

Oh my god, what a lovely experience! As a LOTR nerd, I was delighted at the theme. :) The site was peaceful and quiet, the doggies were so friendly and welcoming, and every detail was thoughtfully designed. For me, this was capital G glamping. There was a very clean flushing toilet outhouse with all amenities you’d need, the shower was so amazing - think, steamy cedar, cool island air, fresh fluffy towels. The outdoor kitchen with organic coffee, spearmint tea, and yummy cookies in the morning was truly next level fancy shmancy.
The tent was amazing: clean, cozy, and warm, beautifully designed in art nouveau fashion. We slept like logs!
100% worth it, and a great value!
I sure hope to be back one day for longer!

We loved our time on Christian's stunning plot of land! The common kitchen area was well stocked and a fantastic place to socialise with the other guests. The tent we rented was very spacious and a perfect place to rest at the end of a beautiful day in the area.
Christian was very accommodating with our requests such as lending us his portable toilet and was fun to hang out with around the fire pit in the evening. Would definitely recommend and consider returning!

Weekend Trip to Woodland at The Shamba
This property felt very private for us! There’s a 2 minute walk down the trail to the tent area, pretty easy to get your stuff there if you’re used to trail walking. Lots of fresh fruit and granola bars provided for us! The toilet is very simple but clean and fine for a couple nights. We brought all the necessary camping equipment minus a tent and sleeping bags. You will need outdoor chairs, a stove, cooler and other camping essentials. This was pretty obvious given the description and reviews so don’t be shocked when it’s just a bed and table! Overall we really liked the area and the tent and bedding were clean and very comfortable, had a great stay!

Mielle was a wonderful host. The land was peaceful and lush. The bell tent was clean and spacious.
A few things for future visitors:
The forest is quite humid so the tent has a slight musk smell. We had one exceptionally hot day during our stay and that dried out the tent enough to clear the air but otherwise it is a bit damp. Not unpleasant enough to bother us but slightly noticeable.
Also it is definitely an off-grid tent which is wonderful for those who want to unplug. The host is also very generous and gave us access to a trailer they have on the property that had a flush toilet, electricity and running water.
Some things to note: the tent site is a short distance from the parking so you’ll have to pack in and pack out. There is a ravine in the middle so if you are bringing in a lot of supplies for camping, this will take some time. This site is better suited as an eco-bed and breakfast than a camping site as there is no picnic table, which makes cooking and food preparation challenging. Still, as campers we made it work.
Also worth noting, the composting toilet is actually a bucket but as mentioned, our host gave us access to a trailer with a flush toilet.
Overall we had a lovely stay and would recommend this site to others.

Christian was very welcoming, and gave us a friendly tour of the sanctuary on our arrival. It's a beautiful, well designed and maintained, space! The tent was spacious and the area peaceful.
He provided some great recommendations that were a short drive away. There is a lot to see, do, and eat nearby.

We love the site, super cute and cozy! Beds are comfy everything was nice and clean. The outhouse however is way over due for a service, it is disturbingly full. The caretaker, Bronte was lovely and super helpful, they have super cute and friendly dogs that greeted us at the driveway. We would 100% stay here again :)

What a dream come true! I was looking for a nature getaway that was in the elements & also alluring // smooth on logistics (without the noise of public campgrounds, *ideally*). Mielle’s lotus tent in the cedar forest was *MUCH* more than we bargained for!
I adore cooking while camping (food always tastes best outside), so we brought a camp stove & filled the cooler with delicious local eats, yet didn’t have to worry about setting up a tent —> instead had a glorious, clean, spacious yurt to kick our feet up on a comfortable bed after exploring so many gems & adventures Salt Spring Island has to offer!
Mielle was a -very kind & gracious- host.. there was fresh fruits & snacks upon arrival, clean drinking water, as well as an incredible surprise greeting from her 3yr old Bernese Mountain dog who brightened our stay beyond measure :D

We had a nice time with our doggie at Mielle's place. The tent was large enough to spread out and the bed was comfortable. There was filtered water and fresh fruits/granola bars available on the table. We used this place to explore the parks and trails around and it was amazing. It is a simple, convenient, private option to spend a few days on Salt spring during summertime when you don't want to go camping and are pretty minimalist.

Weekend Trip to Forest Sanctuary Bell Tent
Staying in the bell tent made my vacation easy!
All I needed was a sleeping mat and sleeping bag, no setting up a tent required!
The tent is spacious and cozy at the same time, with plenty of room to sleep 8 or to take the extra space to create a temporary home that has room to do indoor activities if the weather is poor.
It has a table and cushions to use if you want them, with an ambience that eases the mind and body with its indoor solar lighting and fairy lights sprinkled throughout the property.
The tent is set in a corner of the property that offers privacy with its own picnic table and a cute wall of greenery.
Bonus: Christian offered me a camping toilet so any middle of the night needs didn't require that I go outside!
The communal kitchen, living space and green pastures have many nooks to explore, such a fun place to gather. At the same time seclusion was an easy find, lots of places to read, journal or mediate and it was a super cool way of finding my way around.
The other campers were warm and friendly and a welcomed addition to my get-away.
Christian greeted me with positive energy and a vast amount of information that helped me navigate his impressive property (ask him to tell you about his land and how it became The Forest Sanctuary; very impressive and inspiring).
His knowledge of the Coast was also valuable as he had suggestions for activities to do and the community are incredible people.

Spacious yurt in a private forested area, great value for your money! Tent was clean and well maintained. Bit of a walk from the parking spot, probably 200 meters, so just be aware if you have a lot of stuff. Bridge was still under construction and a tad sketchy but held up okay. Compostable toilet on site was clean and wood shavings were provided. Only thing it's missing is an outdoor seating/cooking spot so bring camping chairs, we just put our camping stove on the ground but it isn't very flat. Overall had a nice stay!

This is a great spot. Very peaceful and well designed. Comfy beds, cute and creative kitchen set up., clean outhouse. Wonderful location just up the road from the goose where you can bike to the potholes. We were surprised how close it was to some buildings on site but it was not an issue. It was really quiet, we would happily stay again.

Test Your Legs on the Trails
Hiking is a favourite activity among Cowichan Valley campers thanks to extensive trail systems and a varied terrain that means you might find yourself navigating a peak one day and a coastline the next. Mount Prevost and Mount Tzouhalem are two of the more challenging peaks, but the views at the top make each well worth the effort. For a mild hike (or bike), try the Cowichan River Trail at the valley floor. Carmanah Walbran Provincial Park
This park is home to a significant percentage of the largest old-growth Sitka spruce in British Columbia. Cowichan Bay and the Coast
Conveniently located adjacent to the coast, the Cowichan Valley is also loaded with opportunities where the land ends. Cowichan Bay, Mill Bay, Crofton, and Maple Bay are some of the prominent coastal communities where campers can launch on guided boat excursions or sit back and enjoy the sunset while eating at a local waterfront restaurant. These communities offer great wildlife watching, places to walk along the shore, and opportunities to charter boats for fishing and touring.
When to go
The beauty of the Cowichan Valley is the pleasant climate. Summer temperatures are rarely hot, with daily average highs peaking in the low 70s. Although summer is perfect for outdoor fun in the Cowichan Valley, there really isn't a bad month to visit the valley. British Columbia is notoriously cold throughout the winter months, but this valley offers refuge. Winter temperatures are cool, but they tend to stay above freezing, which makes it possible to continue recreating outside without gearing up for full winter weather. Expect occasional rain throughout the winter in addition to plenty of sunny days. Rain can muddy trail conditions, but otherwise, it should have little impact on your ability to enjoy the outdoors.
