Come and explore the glamping " Portal" style. We offer a unique experience just steps away from beautiful Sproat Lake. This is a retreat-type space and is specifically set up to help you get away from your busy life. There are books, games, hummingbirds, deer, and all that nature has to offer including the Lake, a stone's throw away for a quick dip to rejuvenate the mind and body.
The Portal is 18 feet long and 8 feet wide and is your very own private space. Featuring a beautiful deck for relaxation, reading, star gazing, yoga, or alfresco dining, with the interior offering a queen bed, sofa small table and two chairs. Oh so cozy and romantic. There is a fancy outhouse that flushes water and is equipped with a sink. This space is best suited for a single, a couple, and possibly a fur baby and/or little one.
We are located on a quiet residential street 20 minutes from Port Alberni and en route to Tofino or Ucluelet. We have walking and mountain biking trails minutes from the house.
If you are bringing a fur baby, please let us know. It must be on a leash at all times. Please bring your fur baby's favourite blanket or bed to sleep on. We kindly ask that you keep your fur baby off the furniture and bed, and that you please not leave your pet unattended.
The Portal has internet and spotty cell service. There is an outlet for charging, etc. Parking is on-site. Local food options include the "The Fish & Duck Pub" which is just a short walk away. Call Doordash to deliver a meal from one of our local restaurants, such as Sproat Lake Landing, or bring a picnic to enjoy.
Canoe $40.00 per day $200 deposit.
Please bring your own PFD and any personal protective gear you may require.

We, your hosts, and our yard-full of farm friends live just up the hill, but we sneak out often to welcome our guests.
Strongwater Camping and Cabins offers bookings year-round. Choose from our 8 rustic cabins or 8 large campsites to accommodate your next relaxing get-away or refreshing retreat. Bookings are usually a 2-night minimum. 1-night may be available at the discretion of the Hosts. New to our accommodations are the SkookumBus and a Glamping Tent (summer only)!
Our hand-built cabins provide a simply magical experience, with warm, comfy beds and bedside table, a fan for summer or a heater for winter. Nearly every cabin features a small table and chairs and a mini-fridge plus an outdoor fire pit and a picnic table. The cabins’ decks are surrounded by forest. Firewood is available for $30/wheelbarrow on site when available (unless we have a fire ban.)
All campsites include the fire pit and picnic table.
Everyone has easy access to the spa-like washrooms with coin-operated hot showers and flush toilets. Children 8 years old and under must be accompanied by an adult in the Wash house. There’s a dish washing station in the center of the Wash House where you can refill your water jugs and bottles or wash dishes. Please do not use for washing hair or laundry or tooth brushing. We ask that you conserve water and keep the Wash House clean.

There is a shared parking area with the cottage and studio building. The buildings are relatively close together, but there is good privacy at the house, as the deck and outdoor areas are quite secluded. A canoe is shared between the cottage and house on a first-come, first-served basis.
If asked while using the semi-private beach, please say you are staying at Edward and Kira’s house.
The property should be quiet and peaceful during your stay. If, for any reason, this does not feel true, contact Kira or Edward (call/text: [PHONE NUMBER]) and it will be addressed promptly.
We do live in the house, so it has not been emptied of its contents. Please enjoy our space—we are very happy to share it with you.

The cabin is very basic. Think wilderness camping with some perks like a flush toilet, hot shower, and power. There are two IKEA double beds which sleep two people comfortably or four people cozily.
In addition to the sleeping cabin, there are three outdoor structures providing you protection from the rain. The cooking station, the clean up station, and new for 2026, an outdoor covered living room.
While there is no TV, there is a small fridge, propane stove, and propane fire pit. Cooking supplies include pots, frying pan, and dishes. For those wanting to connect to the outside world, there is good cellphone reception but no wifi.

We absolutely loved our stay at the lovely little cabin – it was all super comfy, and exactly what we needed. It was great to have the picnic table outside. We set up our propane stove and cooked ourselves some yummy dinner and breakfast. The raspberries were ripe in the garden and super tasty! Absolutely loved the earthship tour – thank you so much Susan and Tony for a wonderful stay and for sharing your home and your passion!

Camping here was such a joyful and relaxing experience! The hosts are so welcoming, caring and most helpful. We loved the location in the woods, close to beautiful trails and a quiet beach. Taking a tour of their place added inspiration and a new perspective. As an unexpected but meaningful bonus, I enjoyed an evening full of music, strumming along with friendly and talented people. The Maple Cabin is such a sweet spot, nestled on Susan and Tony’s land with a lovely view of the trees and the sounds of songbirds. The bed was comfy and the space warm and inviting.
Just a note, If you want more than a shared pit toilet, consider booking the other cabin with a bathroom.

I loved my stay at the portal! So close to the lake, perfect for a morning swim - close to town to get groceries/food, on a very quiet road (probably one of the best sleeps I’ve had in a long time). Host was kind and helpful! Would recommend for a couple or a solitary stay (would be a great place to use as a writing retreat, I will have to book again!)

Andrew and his partner were amazing and so welcoming and make sure we had everything we needed for our stay. Our stay in the Maple Cabin was very comfortable. A nice double bed with cotton sheets and a down duvet kept us perfectly warm and cozy. Susan was very kind and communicated well. She greeted us and showed us around the gardens and facilities when we arrived. It was the perfect jumping off point for our day trip to Qualicum Beach, Cathedral Grove, Tofino and Uclulet!
