43km from Clearwater · 5 sites
A very remote, tranquil log cabin fishing camp hand-built in the 1960's. Akehurst Lake Wilderness Resort is only accessible by ATV (snowmobile in winter) or by foot (a 9-minute walk from the parking lot). There is no public access to the lake so it is wonderfully private & peaceful. We offer 5 cabins in total with some areas suitable for tents. There is a day-lodge with a kitchen and eating area for guest's use, kayaks, row boats, and a paddle board free for use as well as a wood-fired sauna! The lake is excellent for swimming. It is feet-friendly, shallow, and has no sudden drop-offs. And if you like to hike, fish or BOTH then this is the place for you. There are many nearby lakes that are a short drive/ride and hike away! Akehurst Lake does not have cell service or wifi. Lights are made possible by a gas generator in the evening. There is only cold running water in the day-lodge sink which is seasonal and depends on if the creek is running. Guests should be comfortable being in the woods and aware that if no one else is there, they will need to light the stove and fridge and operate the generator if needed. **Packing List** - Bedding (sheets & blankets or sleeping bag. Pillow covers) - Extra pillows (we provide 2 per cabin. Ask if more are available before arrival) - Towel/face cloth - Dish cloth & Dish towels - Paper towel/napkins - Toilet rolls - Lighter for fires (if applicable). Ours tend to all go missing or stop working - Flashlight - Drinking water - Cooler & ice You are welcome to create your own outdoor kitchen at your cabin, but we do ask you to be mindful of removing items from the day lodge that those using the kitchen might be counting on. ***We cannot stress this enough**: This is very remote. It is truly another world up there and we cannot be there at all times so it is a good idea to have some knowledge and experience in off-grid/backcountry living!

TinyRetreat: Off-Grid Forest Reset

3. TinyRetreat: Off-Grid Forest Reset

4.8km from Clearwater · 1 site
Some places make you feel like you can finally breathe again. TinyRetreat is one of them. Set on 2 private acres at the edge of Canada's Waterfall Park—Wells Gray Country, home to 42 named waterfalls, expansive lakes, and the Trophy Mountains—this cozy off-grid tiny house was built for one thing: letting your nervous system fully reset. Step outside and you're met with open meadow bleeding into dense forest, the sound of a nearby creek, and air that genuinely smells different. Inside, it's simple, warm, and intentional—a lofted queen bed, a wood stove that crackles to life, a fridge and propane stove for real meals, and firewood already waiting for you. With an outhouse toilet tucked in the woods and drinking water provided, it's as close to off-grid as most people will ever get, with just enough comfort to make it feel like a treat rather than a test. Then there's the sauna. A custom cedar electric sauna sitting right outside with forest views, yours alone to heat up and disappear into. Whether you're thawing out after a winter snowshoe or unwinding after a long day of chasing waterfalls—it changes everything. What you'll do from here: • Helmcken Falls: Canada's fourth-highest waterfall, plunging 141 metres into the canyon, is a short drive up Clearwater Valley Road. • Spahats Creek Falls: A striking 75-metre cascade, just 10km from Clearwater. • Dutch Lake: Under 10 minutes away for paddleboarding. • Outdoor Trails: Mountain bike or cross-country ski just 5 minutes up the road. • Seasonal Adventure: Snowshoe into the quiet in winter or hike wildflower meadows in summer. • Stargazing: Sit at the firepit when the stars come out and do absolutely nothing. Clearwater is a short drive for groceries, gas, and yes—a Tim Hortons if you need a WiFi fix. But most guests find they don't reach for their phone much once they arrive. Cell service is spotty. That's not a bug. (Though there are bugs in the summer... come prepared!) This is a place for two (or a solo traveler who knows what they need). A full exhale is hard to find—this is where to take it.
