You will come here to enjoy the beauty and tranquility of Black Mountain' on the banks of the `Mighty Nymbo’, bordering Nymboida River and Nymboi-Binderay National Park on Gumbainggir country.
Visitors enjoy: Swimming in the pristine river; boating; walking tracks through diverse terrain; starry night skies; campfires, or just relaxing for days. Our guests recommend staying at least two nights to soak up the atmosphere and explore the area.
Choose from the 'Ant Shack' or four adjacent campsites with easy access and views to the Nymboida River. Shared facilities include a hot shower and composting toilets.
This is a registered conservation property We can’t accommodate domestic animals nor allow fishing (not even catch and release) because we protect our wildlife and the endangered Eastern Cod.
Black Mountain is remote but only 60 kilometres from Grafton or Coffs (via back way).
Alastair and I have shared the property for more than 30 years and consider ourselves custodians of this precious place. All proceeds from Airbnb and Hipcamp are invested in the continuing conservation of Black Mountain.
IMPORTANT: `Black Mountain’ Shack and camp sites are only accessible by
4 wheel drive or all wheel drive vehicles.

Other than passing trains, the property is private and peaceful, you can see the wallabies grazing near the carriage most mornings.We have bitumen road access to our 300 metre maintained gravel driveway.There is plenty of room to park a trailer or boat.Diane owns and runs the quilt fabric shop, the Remnant Basket in Macksville.Diane is passionate about sewing and quilting.Dave is a semi retired builder who owns and runs the water ski school in Macksville. Blue Hole Riverside Camp (via Castle Doyle Rd) is located 10 minutes out of Armidale and provides sunny, cleared acres to camp by the riverside with peaceful surrounds and total relaxation. Easy access to the river to swim, fish, kayak or canoe.
A short two minute drive (approx 3kms) to the beautiful Blue Hole Picnic Area and Gara Gorge offers swimming, picnic seating, BBQ and bush walking in a scenic bush setting with clean toilets. Armidale is home to many gorges and national parks like no other region. Dangars falls is a stunning waterfall with a picnic area.
This rural property suits self sufficient campers only with own drinking water and shower/toilet amenities. All campers must take their rubbish with them leaving no trace - no bins provided.
Please note that wifi is limited in this camping area by the river. You will find certain spots around the area that will work more efficiently. We do not offer wifi.
Take your time to relax by a fire and enjoy the serenity!

My friend and I stayed in the Yurt, which was amazing to fall asleep looking at the intricate hand-painted interior. The bed and furnishing were also incredibly comfortable and stylish. The amenities on the site were really well thought out, and it was so nice to be 'off-grid' but be able to easily cook, shower, etc. We spent our days reading on the deck, swimming in the gorgeous river that runs through the property, kayaking and playing with Jess's dog Zoe who would run and swim along the river bank, following us on our little paddles (highlight). At night we made fire's which Jess had already, kindly provided wood and kindling for. Town is only a 15min drive, with great butchers and grocers for necessities, plus cute cafes and stores to waddle around and browse. We had THE best time- Jess is such a gorgeous and generous host and her property is really special!!

Our favourite place we stayed along our trip from Sydney to brisbane. Loved staying here even if it was for the 1 night. Loved that we had our private little shower room and the locals here were amazing to talk to and have a laugh with at the tavern in the town centre. Right next to the ocean but if you're also nervous with swimming its fine as the river is there also where its much more calm to swim in. Would've stayed here another night if I could redo the trip.

Unforgettable Nymboida Getaway!
Our stay at Nymboida was incredible! Merryl was an amazing host, and the pristine river made for the perfect escape. The highlight? Spotting a platypus and two kingfishers—pure magic! The kids felt so safe, and the canoe adventure was unforgettable. Can’t wait to go back—this time, just with the boys! 😜 Highly recommend!
