LEGACY TREES We are currently undergoing a native tree planting program and for a short time can offer a choice of endemic species seedlings (limited stock - 1 per booking) for you to plant. By pre-arrangement we will provide markers with your wording for permanent reference. Winters here and its the best time to camp at NRR, with hard stand parking throughout and blazing campfires by the river, book now! We have 3 beautiful and secluded sites to offer, right in the heart of the Dwellingup State Forest, 1 of them on the banks of the Murray River. All sites here enjoy a minimum of 100 metres separation. We love all animals here at Nanga River Retreat and we'd love for you to bring yours along (Remember to book our pet friendly site – ‘River Camp’, and dont forget to bring your little yellow bags please). We also enjoy an abundance of wildlife traffic through the property. We would love to see all the Witches, Wiccans, and other Weirdos out there, we encourage you to book in for a spell. (pun intended) You'll fit right in. 🧙‍♀️ We invite discreet devotees of herbs, and mushrooms, to visit for a while, you will absolutely love it here, with privacy you just cannot get at the park 🤙 Come and find yourself, or maybe lose yourself, down by the river in Dwellingup, forest getaways dont get much better. Please Note; Loud drunkenness, anti-social behaviour, and rude misconduct will lead to eviction without refund, and reporting to Hipcamp. Also, no off-roading. No motor bikes, quads and any sort of hooning on the property will lead to eviction without refund and reporting to Hipcamp. So folks we'd like to maintain a tranquil and quiet retreat for those that wish it to be so. Thanks for understanding. A small advice for those bringing children, this is a wild and unfenced river access area and all care should be taken in supervision. Please see the site rules. Feel free to contact us via Hipcamp if you're interested but for some reason fall outside of the site parameters listed, we're pretty flexible and in most cases will be willing to accommodate your needs. A spare site for APPROVED special request guests and last minute desperado’s, not normally used, and we’ll probably say no. Enjoy the choice of 2 locations; The Old Shack (closer to the road, drive through, strictly no pets), or; The Drop (4x4 or walk in access only, closer to the river, very steep bank, no vans, no campers, strictly no pets, no drive thru, restricted access when wet, well isolated site, only a lucky few will get to stay here). At either site you’ll enjoy all the access privileges to the forest and river that the other guests enjoy, but with no fire pit, no cooking ring, and no other amenities at all. Its the Wish Id Booked Earlier deal 😉 You must be fully self sufficient for both sites, ie you must have your own toilet - ‘short drops’ will not be tolerated 💩👎 All waste, human and other, is to be removed from site. Site is always blocked and will only be booked for APPROVED special request guests and last minute desperados. For full property details see site description for River Camp. An excellent and inspiring spot for artists, with a hundred views worth capturing in any form from charcoal thru oil, to digital. Many wonderfully tranquil places to sit and ponder, draw, write, and wonder. Truely 'En plein air' Amazing birdwatching here, with highly populated tree lines and shrubby areas surrounding and throughout the property. Superb Star gazing opportunities too, with wide open and un-interrupted views of the night sky in every direction, from various vantage points available around this lovely 40 acres of beautiful river front property. Nanga River Retreat is an outdoor adventurer's dream, with truly wild forest country to be found between the property and the river in many places. 🌲 The heart of the last real Jarrah-forest is right here for you to explore, with canoeing, kayaking, swimming, fishing, hiking, and biking all great ways to spend your time here. In fact, if youre into bikes, you'll be happy to know there's quite a few things around town to amuse you. Firstly, it's only 10 minutes to a great local skate park and pump track, one that lures riders of bikes n boards alike of every skill level and from all around. Its a family friendly arena and boasts a really good playground right there on site for the little ones (and right next to Way Points Cafe for the not so little...). A bit further out is the Turner Hill bike track, and of course from town there is local access to the world famous MundaBiddi trail. Also, and much closer to home, is the Murray Valley Trails Mountain-Bike Area, and as the crow flies its only around 2kms away. Western Australia's newest and best mountain bike trail area, with 35kms of single-track MTB trails, varying from Easy rolls around Lane Poole Reserve, to Difficult and fast black diamond downhill runs for those brave souls who dare it. Check out Murray Valley Trails online. If bikes are not your thing, or for anyone that just wants to tap into their inner primate, Trees Adventures Dwellingup is only a short drive over the hill (just 5.5kms from the gate) and is an incredible day out with the kids. Actually its an incredible day out for anyone with the rightly mixed senses of adventure and humour. This is a blast, its much more fun than it might sound like, and we highly recommend it! Dwellingup is known as 'The place that trails meet', and there is local access to a seemingly endless selection of walk paths, bridle trails, and bike tracks of every description. There's plenty an orienteering challenge that also awaits, 🧭 this is a perfect part of the scarp for those wandering souls who enjoy getting lost in order to find their way... We love all animals here at Nanga River Retreat and we'd love for you (by pre-arrangement please) to bring yours along. We enjoy an abundance of wildlife traffic through the property, and even have quite the zoo ourselves, with chickens and ducks, pigs and sometimes sheep to be found around the place. A couple of cats, some fish, all sorts... (dont forget to bring your little yellow bags please guys) We would love to see all the Witches, Wiccans, and various other Weirdos out there come on down, and we encourage you to book in for a spell. (pun intended) You'll fit right in. 🧙‍♀️ We invite discreet devotees of herbs, mushrooms, and all things magical to visit for a while, you will absolutely love it here, with privacy you just cannot get at the park 🤙 So beautiful people, come and find yourself, or maybe lose yourself, down by the river in Dwellingup, forget Camp Granada, (yes, we're that old...) forest getaways dont get much better than this one. So, social drinkers, social smokers, and all deep thinkers are definitely welcome, and when you get here, we can either mingle and chat, or your time and space can be your very own, that's entirely up to you, BUT! We dont want 'The Party People' here. Sorry. We dont need you to act Amish, within reason you can drink smoke sing celebrate, have your tunes, whatever, but this is the wrong venue for running amok. Loud drunkenness, anti-social behaviour, and rude misconduct will lead to eviction without refund, and reporting to Hipcamp. Also, and sorry about this one too folks, but no ripping around out here on anything with an engine. No off-roading. No motor bikes, quads, buggies, or any other form of self-powered transport in the dirt. In-fact while you're here, any sort of hooning on the property will lead to eviction without refund and reporting to Hipcamp. However all you mad mud mashers out there, for those that do want to go somewhere and get tractionally challenged, you'll only be a short drive from the famous Captain Fawcett 4x4 track, (about 1/4 hour away), and we are sure that down there you can get all the off-roading you want to, right out of your system! Check it out online. And of course there's hundreds of bush tracks all around here. So folks, the idea of this campsite and indeed of the entire property, is that it's intended as a tranquil and quiet retreat for those that wish it to be so. This is how we want it too, and this atmosphere of a quiet getaway must be observed by all comers please. Thanks for understanding. A small advice for those bringing children, in fact for anyone that intends to swim in or be beside the water, this is a wild and unfenced river access area and all care should be taken in supervision. Please see the site rules. One more thing, feel free to contact us via Hipcamp if you're interested in staying here but for some reason fall outside of the site parameters listed on this add. You might have a late arriver that needs to bring a third vehicle, your bus might be 1/2 a metre longer than the sites drop box allows for, or maybe you dont own a telly and have 7 kids you need to bring? Whatever it is, dont sweat it. Get in touch and run it by us, we're pretty flexible and in most cases will be willing to accommodate your needs. The camp site was clean and had a beautiful view. Ignore other comments about road noise, it was quiet for us. We appreciated the half drum camp grill. Everything was easy to find. The walk to the river was beautiful. Thanks Shane.

Tent camping at Nanga river camp site, waking up to an orchestra of roosters and geese every morning which was beautiful. Lots of wildlife that came to visit, from gorgeous blue wrens, emus, ducks with their ducklings, black cockatoos, rabbit at night and more. Shane and Dee are fantastic hosts and asked us to plant a tree which will have a plaque, the property is lovely with flat ground for tents and plenty of space so not to encroach on others. The four of us had a fantastic time, we stayed 4 nights and 5 days, a short drive into Dwellingup to stock up on fire wood. This place is fantastic, the serenity is amazing. The four of us will definitely be back, a big thank you to Shane & Dee, see you both again soon. G,L,P,J.

Lovely stay. Great location, quiet and a feeling of being deep in nature but still only 10min from town if you need. Lots of walks around camp, and saw some nice wildlife - bandicoot, tawny, kangaroo, turtle, possum. One great thing is the late check out of 1pm. Instead of waking up to a big rush to get out, we could have coffee and breakfast in a leisurely way. So good. Highly recommend this camp.

We loved the camp site. Beautiful bush camping with the convenience of being close to town and the lots of great mountain biking. Excellent communication and easy to find. Campsite well labeled. Plenty of space between campsites. Thanks for letting us stay Shane. Looking forward to coming down again in a few weeks.

Magic little spot

Nanga River Retreat is an absolute gem tucked in a gully right on the doorstep of Lane Poole. We pitched up at Bandicoot’s Landing, and even with a neighbor close-ish, it felt completely private, tucked away, and peaceful. The soundtrack out here is unreal. We had black cockatoos overhead all day, kookaburras in the background, and a dead-set friendly family of magpies hanging round camp. One little bloke sat a meter off me just happily hoovering up bugs while we kicked back. The best part? The host is running a land rehab project where you can plant Jarrah and WA Blackbutt saplings to help regenerate the property. We jumped right on that—getting our hands dirty, planting two trees, and knowing we can come back to check on them (and eventually get a little plaque made) felt bloody special. Genuine honor to put something back into the jarrah forest. Spent the rest of the time wandering the land, saying g'day to the pigs in their pen, and just sinking into the quiet. We loved the place so much we lost total track of time in the morning and almost forgot we actually had to pack up and leave. We’ll 100% be back to check on our saplings

Second time here. It’s so beautiful. A short walk to Lane Poole Reserve but honestly you could just spend the time taking in the scenery around you and strolling down to the river. Great that there is a toilet, as well as a table and nice set up around a campfire. We loved it.

The location was great. Not far from Perth, and a lively drive to get there. It was easy to find. The location was everything promised - nice site, lovely outlook, close to the river, great walks. The facilities were rustic but good. We have a very relaxing time. The hosts were accommodating and responsive.

Beautiful property—we had an amazing weekend! It’s close to Dwellingup and some fantastic 4WD tracks, yet it feels like you’re a world away from everything. We loved all the birdlife, and Shane was incredibly helpful and welcoming. We would definitely stay here again!

Great location with heaps of space. We drove around the camp grounds in Lane Poole before heading across the bridge to our site at NRR. We ran into Shane doing some property maintenance on our way in who was very accommodating making sure we had everything we needed. Nice flat ground with a bit of coverage on the ground. Glad we opted to stay here and will be back.

Such a beautiful, tranquil piece of land. We loved our stay and wished we could have stayed longer. The spot was quiet and we felt like we were the only 2 people which was nice. The river is a short walk and easily accessible to carry chairs and fishing rods down. Will definitely be back.

A simply brilliant spot to setup, and chill out by the fire. Feels like it's just you in the forest, super quiet (bar the odd rev-head flying down Nanga Road in low gear for no reason). Dwellingup is near enough for a quick visit for supplies if required, but we basically stayed at camp. Will return for sure.

We loved camping there, it was our second time there, we took our two dogs and had a ball. A really nice hostel, easy to communicate with. A large propety so room for on leash evening walks. During the day we explored near by trails around Dwellingup and Marrinup. No showers on-site, so we got ourselves a $20 portable shower haning of a tree and had fun with it. We'd like to go back there :)

This was expensive for what was on offer. Basically a campsite on a small gravel ring road within earshot and view of the owners house and under 100 m from a busy weekender public road. No bandicoots to be seen but some distant kangaroos, some thudding past my site due to the hot pursuit of the owners dog. Not the most enjoyable campsite I’ve been to but news of permission to have a fire was great and I very much enjoyed that ambience. Had to leave early due to a family emergency but will not return as it’s not a place I would call discreet or peaceful at all.

We loved this peaceful and secluded camp-site! We haven't seen a human our whole stay, barely heard any human noices in the distance, and had birds for company. The directions were perfect, our Host, Shane was very easy to communicate with beforehand. Easy access by 2WD. Dogs are not allowed on other sites, so ours were the only dogs on the propety - which matters to our reactive rescue, kept his calm and happy, and let us really relax. We got a real break from the city. We are already booked again.

Perfect Bush Camp By The River!

Altho we only got to stay one night, we thoroughly enjoyed our time at Bandicoot Landing. This site is HUGE, but yet still so private. Nice flat surface down the bottom of the hill, with great views all round. My kids & I loved it here and cant wait to come back and explore a few different sites on offer. Thanks guys!

Not what I was expecting

Other sites were clearly sign posted but ours wasn’t. When we checked in we were told our site was “over there” with a gesture in the general direction. We found what we figured was the camp site but there was no markings or cleared ground to indicate that apart from a garbage bin. I felt we paid a rather high price for a full self sufficient tent site which was covered in dead leaves and fallen twigs and branches that we had to clear away.
