Site 2 - Beltana State Heritage area

Terrific place to stay, camp, and explore the northern Flinders. Wonderful hot showers and fire pits...and when the pub is open, terrific conversations, snacks, and drinks. We'll definitely be coming back!

The dunnies and showers were clean and tidy. The showers were hot. Very friendly place for travelers. The communal fire pits allowed us to swap stories with others.

We originally booked two nights at Beltana Campground… then the rain came, and we got flooded in, so two nights very happily turned into five! Epic to see the water run Jan, our host, wasn’t actually there during our stay, but she was always incredibly prompt, helpful and efficient with her communication. In her absence, we were very well looked after by the **“B Team” — her cousin Sam and Greg — who were absolutely amazing hosts and made us feel completely at home. What a great little spot Beltana is. The Beltana Progress Association has done an amazing job with the campground. The amenities are some of the best-kept campground showers we’ve come across; there’s lovely rainwater available, plenty of room, and a big communal campfire that’s perfect for sitting around at night. Make sure you allow time to wander around the historic Beltana townsite. There’s so much to see and explore that you can easily fill a day just poking around and discovering the history of the place. And definitely pop into the Beltana pub. The homemade carrot cake is worth the stop on its own, along with homemade sausage rolls and soup. There are big roaring fires when it’s cold and a great verandah to sit on when the weather’s good. While we were rained in, we happily whiled away a few hours playing cards and games in the lounge areas in front of the fire — there are certainly worse places to be stranded! Access is easy, with bitumen almost all the way and only a short section of gravel.

Beautiful scenery Good camping facilities The pub was good, unfortunately we didn’t have a meal as we were in on the wrong day. Coffee and scones in the morning with one of their sausage rolls was nice. Would go again.

A remote almost ghost town camp

Beltana is an old town, now largely abandoned with a population of only about 30 people. The community have worked really to provide information about many of the old, intact buildings and ruins. Some have been nicely restored. The pub is in the process of getting up and running again with opening depending on how many people are around (there were and so opened for happy hour on Wednesday). The camp is well set up with good little bathrooms that have excellent hot water. There is potable water but i dint try it. There is excellent Telstra reception. Well worth an en route stop for a night or so, even if only for the night sky

We stubbled across this beautiful historic town whilst on our travels and didn’t hesitate to book when seeing the camping area! Lovely and clean facilities-toilets and showers and a small play area for the kids was a bonus! Down by the info boards there are also bbq areas to enjoy if you wish. We were lucky to stay on a Thursday night and the pub was open. This camping area is certainly a gem not to miss out on and the history of the town is very interesting. We would definitely book again if around that way.

Site 2 - Beltana State Heritage area

Lovely setting in a well maintained camp site. Amenities were very clean, and we particularly enjoyed exploring the historic town. The Royal Victoria Hotel is a must see. A beautiful old hotel, renovated well. We enjoyed a french press coffee with home made brownies! Thoroughly recommend this campsite.

Loved our time in Beltana. We camped on the track next to site 4, so others could read the signage. Facilities were excellent, hot showers and toilet. Something you don’t expect in the bush. The revamped old pub was a delight and a must to see and have a drink there. My mother was born in Beltana in 1916, so this was a memorable visit. Wonderful the town is being cared for. Jan is a wonderful person who extends her hospitality 100%

Booking system is efficient and effective. The historic area is well furnished with information about the various buildings and some of the people who are associated with them. The spacing of the sites is good and the facilities are good, especially given the small number of camping sites.
