Porkys Hollow
It's a magnificent location, right on the riverbank. The camping area was extremely well presented. Lionel was very easy to deal with, he met us at the gate and showed us to our camping area. Fire pits were provided. Easy access to the river with our kayaks for a relaxing paddle. During our stay we observed kangaroos and goats drinking on the other side of the river. The bird life is amazing, from sulphur crested cockatoos, kingfishers, parrots and a hawk's nest right near our site where we watched the mother feeding her babies. We had an amazing holiday, Lionel is the perfect host of his little piece of paradise.

Really enjoyed our 3 day stay. Vast space, pretty scenary and solitude. Whist being isolated, the camp sites are well maintained with lots of options. Just be aware its a 17km drive in on a dirt road which is in reasonable condition. Also zero connectivity (which was a great thing!!) if this presents an issue for others.

Gorgeous river views and a peaceful atmosphere. It’s the perfect place for camping, kayaking and fishing, we’ll definitely bring the gear next time. This time around we just enjoyed the quietness. Lionel was a wonderful host and made us feel truly welcome.

Campsite was really nice. It’s beside a river, on high ground, beside a paddock of friendly black cows. However we were just looking for a one night stop over and didn’t see that the campground is 17kms down a dirt / unsealed road. Because of our late night arrival time, this made the site harder to access and hard to find. Advice to friends considering would be to make sure you’re prepared for the long drive in. It’s not just 4WD needed for the property. It’d be best for a fully remote multi night stay.

An exceptional place to relax. Lionel was very kind to us and told us everything we needed during our stay. The place offers a great location and enough space to leave the car and tent. The sunset was stunning and the night very quiet. The flush toilet is really appreciated.

Great site, easy access to the river for fishing caught yellow belly and cod. Easy spot to find and quiet camping. We had a great two nights at Wongalea!

Site 2 - Upper Bank River View Campsites
We spent 3 peaceful days at Wongalea and absolutely loved it! The campsites are spacious, beautifully grassed, and very serene with stunning views over the river, especially watching the sun set! Toilets are provided and were impressively clean with no odour—one even had a full flushing system, which felt like a touch of luxury! The property was easy to find coming from Glen Innes, and Lionel's communication was prompt and clear with easy-to-follow directions. We chose to take the self-drive tour of their incredible 4,500-acre property and highly recommend it—you’ll get to see the landscape up close, and we even spotted emus along the track! Lionel provided a map and explained everything in detail, making it easy to explore. Both Lionel and Angela were so friendly and lovely to chat with. We highly recommend Wongalea to anyone looking for a peaceful camping getaway, and we’ll definitely be back!

Magic spot. First time back at Wongalea, last time was 8 years ago. Love that place. Lionel is more than helpful. Highly recommend for anyone that wants to get a way from it all.

Site 1 - Upper Bank River View Campsites
Lionel and Angela offer a beautiful, tranquil and picturesque camp site at Wongalea. The birdlife was spectacular and we frequently heard the slap of large fish on the river. Wild goats drank from the river opposite our site and kangaroos grazed nearby at dawn and dusk. Our grandsons were constantly in or on the water, in kayaks or swimming, and spent hours exploring and playing on the riverbanks. The toilets were basic but very clean ( maybe bring your own toot paper) and there were taps with river water suitable for cleaning muddy kids etc. Lionel and Angela were incredibly amiable and easy to chat with. We had three relaxing, enjoyable days in a stunning part of the world.

Lionel’s place was great, he met us on arrival so we knew exactly where to go. Awesome views, peaceful and such a great location. We were able to bring our vizsla Louie who just had the best time swimming and running around freely. We loved swimming and camping here. Unfortunately a big storm rolled in but we will be back to enjoy this beautiful spot.

Out time at Wongalea was perfect! Well kept block right next to the beautiful river. We all enjoyed the relaxing time and the dogs had a great time too! 🐶🐶 Lionel and his wife were lovely and accomodating. Always up for a chat and much easier great!

We loved returning to Lionel's campsite and would recommend others to try and visit. Lionel is the perfect host and nothing is better than sitting and relaxing in a picture perfect place.

A group of us stayed at the Upper banks site for 1 night on our way home. Gorgeous location, easy directions from Lionel on how to get there. Will definitely be returning for a longer stay in the near future.

We had the best time on site 1 we had our 18ft van on top of the river bank. Small walk down the hill to the river where there was easy access for us to get in and out of the river. The grass was mowed and easy to camp on and everything was neat and tidy. The property and site was an easy find and the host answered any questions we had. Recommend this camp spot 100%

Do not delay in booking this fantastic spot you won't be disappointed. Clean, spacious and tidy sites. Right next to the river. What more can you ask for. Had a great time fishing by the river - caught a few carp. An enjoyable time for both kids and adults.

We had a lovely time at Wongalea Site 1 & Site 2. A lovely site beside the river. Good spacious sites, easy access to river for kayaks, fishing, swimming etc. The drive in was beautiful. Clean toilets. Purchased some fire wood for our group and received a plentiful amount for what we paid. Hosts were helpful and friendly. A short drive to Yetman. Dump point also nearby. Thank you for having us, we hope to stay again.

A private tranquil stay, Lionel & Angela were so welcoming. We had a great 3 night stay over the Easter break with our Chocolate Lab Charlie. So much to see and do, we can’t wait to come back. Thank you for having us!
