Site 2 - Windy Banks
We had a wonderful stay at Windy Banks Hipcamp. Hearing koalas nearby was such a special experience, and spotting dolphins during the day made it even more memorable.
Set on a bend of the river, the location is absolutely beautiful, with stunning sunsets across the water, that really make the place feel special.
Coming back to our van after a day out to find the fire already lit was a really thoughtful touch—it made the whole stay feel extra welcoming.
Mick was great to deal with—he answered all our questions in a timely manner, has a good knowledge of the local area, and at the same time fully respects your privacy.
A peaceful, relaxing spot that we’d happily return to.

We camped at Windy Banks over the Australia Day long weekend as a group of five. Since each site accommodates only four people, Mike, the owner, kindly offered to open the second site and assured us we’d have the entire 7-acre property to ourselves. However, an hour before arrival, we were informed that his friends would be staying in a shack on the property, though only at night. Upon arrival, we found that Site 2 was unusable because the shack was right next to it, with a gazebo, swag, and a washing line with vests and underwear hanging nearby. A generator ran 24/7, powering the shack and keeping bright patio lights on all night, forcing us to wear earplugs to sleep because of the generator noise. After we complained, the generator was turned off at 11 PM but restarted early each morning. While Mike was friendly and extremely helpful in providing fishing tips, the experience did not meet expectations. The listing does not disclose the shack’s presence or its constant generator use, if occupied, significantly affecting the stay.

The campsite is at a beautiful location overlooking the Branch river with relatively easy access to the water. The site is level and we had enough space for a tent and two campers.
On the negative, the site is also near a couple of buildings on the property (approx. 100) which is powered by a loud generator. The first night the generator ran to the next morning, and despite complaints to the host, ran till 11:30pm on the last (Sunday) night.

Great little secluded spot by the water with an easy to access boat ramp 50m from the campsite. Great views and would recommend to anyone thinking of going camping!

We had a great time at Windy Banks. The stand out things for us were privacy, dog friendliness, river front, and ease of fishing. Our kids (10-12) had a great time, but I wouldn't recommend for young children due to the steep river bank. We definitely plan on visiting again.

Quite an average site - while the view is lovely, there isn’t too much more to it, and the sites are not fantastic. The site I was supposed to stay at had a washing line with some other peoples things there and quite a mess….. I feel the place was over priced and the images online don’t really display the actual setup etc

The views were amazing! We had a great time on Mikes land even though we thought we would end up in the river a few times with all the rain! Once the rain stopped the water receded quite quickly. Mozzies were pretty bad but nothing repellant and coils couldn’t handle!

If want a place that is quiet surrounded by a few birds and boat or dolphin that might glide by, then this place is for you. On the high side of the river, with a large block to set up. If you don't mind a trip along an unsealed gravel road (fine for any cars) and you are completely set up for off-grid camping then this private setting is for you. There is access to the river for kayaks or a small boat or we took a short drive to Hawks Nest for swim at Jimmy's Beach.

Beautiful site, amazing sunset views, perfect weather, very well maintained area and friendly owner. Unfortunately the mosquitoes were quite overwhelming throughout the day and despite the Aerogard we had to retreat inside the tent as the sun went down. Recommend bringing heavy duty Aerogard and possibly fly screens for your tent/gazebo. Other than that, honestly a really beautiful place.

Absolutely awesome spot !
We loved seeing the dolphins come through past our camp spot, it certainly was a highlight.
Beautiful and quiet, loved having an open fire watching the sunsets over the river bank.
We certainly will be back, thanks Mike for sharing your property.

Stayed at the river bend site for a couple of nights. Great spot, other sites can be seen but not close enough to interfere, maintaining a sense of privacy and solitude. 4wd not necessary but local road in has some big ruts and deep corrugations little cars may have concerns with.
Bank is a steep drop which isn’t quite captured in photos. Heaps of deadfall to collect for firewood and a beautiful view of the sunset. Mosquitos were our in big numbers after so much recent rain so pack your repellent.

Lovely quiet river front camping. Mike was welcoming on arrival and showed us where we could go on his property . We were the only ones there so very peaceful. Gorgeous sunsets and great fishing.Just one quick note to remember your Mosquitoes repellent. Mosquitoes were really bad this time of yr . Would be happy to go back there again 😁

The location right on the river is awesome. Fantastic outlook, particularly at sunset. Very quiet and peaceful. Good fishing in the river and Mike the host even let us use his crab pots to catch some delicious mud crab. Amazing host, super friendly and accommodating. Easy access instructions. Would highly recommend, and we will visit again.

It was so peaceful at Windy Banks. We enjoyed swimming in the river, going for a kayak and sitting by the fire. We even spotted a dolphin in the river. Thanks for sharing your piece of paradise with us Mike.

Great spot right on the river. Very peaceful. Lots of shade and also sun.
Could easily fall asleep in the hammock.
No sounds except that of nature.
Plenty of fish if you like to throw a line in.
And a big fire pit.
I thoroughly enjoyed this camp spot. I didn't want to leave! I’ll definitely be back. Thanks Mike
