Windmill Creek Camp

Amazing, quiet little part of Tweed Valley. We would definitely come again. Our dog was happy. We could rinse off and enjoy the creek, though it was low with no rain for a while. The sunset walk was the best part.

Great spot, few minor issues

It's a great spot and we had a lovely weekend. Minutes from Uki town, the pub, Clarrie Hall Dam, awesome swim at Byrill Creek down the road. A couple of things were a little annoying so have to provide an balanced review. I advised Bob we had "two large caravans and five little kids" and at his suggestion booked the lower spot next to the creek. Zero chance our 22 foot vans were getting down/up the hill. Suitable for offroad campers only. Luckily another group had arrived at the same time and were happy to swap. Couldn't get Bob on the phone but he called back an hour later and was very apologetic (genuinely seems a very nice guy). So we setup in Upper Windmill instead (paddock above the creek). Clearly the paddock hadn't been mowed in weeks - grass was a foot tall, which wasn't the best for our little kids to run around and play. Also no firewood on site but I should have asked earlier. The road is not intrusive at all - it's a quiet road with only local cars and dam visitors driving past. In summary, would still recommend. Better communication would have avoided some stress upon our arrival and check the paddock has been recently mowed.

Site sits above the lower creek site. So not overly private and next to the road. You need to walk through the lower camp-site to get to the creek. We also pre paid for firewood and there was nothing there. Do not recommend pre paying.

Quiet spot with lots of grass

Beautiful spot 🌿 A lovely grassy area to set up camp. There’s a lower camp area closer to the river that I’ll probably try next time. Super peaceful — the road is very quiet, and once the dam closes after 5pm you’d be lucky to see a car go past. Only a 15-minute drive into Murwillumbah and about 3 minutes to Uki.

Perfect space! Lovely water access and amenities! Bob was helpful and even saw the cattle drive down the road! Had the wrong footware to join in tho! Was courious about the compost toliet but suprisingly it was better than expected!! Thanks bob! Will be back.

Cooling creek on a hot day

Great place to have some R&R. Spacious sites - only 3. Very short walk to the creek where we floated in our tubes. Water not very deep but definitely refreshing on a hot day. Nice walk to the dam, then further tracks through the bushy surrounds of the dam. Uki township and pub only minutes away. Lunch at the pub was excellent. Will be back for sure. Thanks Bob.

Beautiful spot, highly reccomend booking Windmill Creek camp, if you are looking for nice views of mountain and easy access to the creek, as well as privacy. Owner was very responsive when we realise we liked the lower site better and thankfully we were able to swap.

Lovely campsite with lots of room and great ambience. The creek is great for a swim and very dog friendly. Wal the dog was a great companiona al well One thing that would make it even better is if the gate at the entrance to Windmill was a bit lower on one side so it made it a bit harder for the dogs to wander near the road. All in all a lovely weekend!

Lovely grassy paddock for our 2 caravans to set up. Overlooking the creek with views to Mt. Warning. The road is quite close, but still a very peaceful spot.

Prior to booking this site I'd enquired about the 2 other groups that had booked the 2 other sites - just 2 couples, so should be fairly quiet (need a quiet place due to a competition over the weekend). Unfortunately a group of people were unable to get their caravan in to the other campsite 500m up the road, so the owner allowed them to come and camp next to us, and they had about 6 adults, a couple of kids, and 2 dogs that kept coming over to our spot. I understood the predicament and why they had to camp next to us, but it would've been nice if they had've been quiet and not treated it like they were the only campers there. They were up late the first night until 10:30ish, so I asked the owner to ask them to please be quiet after 9. I don't know if I'd stay here again.. I had really hoped for a peaceful, quiet place to camp and it wasn't at all like that unfortunately. Plus several people from different campsites that this owner has had to come to just behind our camp to get firewood - was quite intrusive. Felt like a thoroughfare.

Great relaxing camp

Great campsite with plenty of wildlife to keep you company. Close to national parks and some excellent hikes, plus there’s a creek to cool off in later. The creek was a little low when we were there due to the lack of rain, but there is a swimming hole a five minute drive up the road which was perfect.

Peaceful Bush Escape

We really enjoyed our stay — it’s a beautiful and peaceful spot with lots of natural charm. The site was slightly overgrown, but that added to the relaxed, rustic feel of the place. There’s no phone service, which was actually be nice if you’re looking to properly switch off, but worth knowing in advance. The only small disappointment was discovering that swimming wasn’t allowed due to an algae outbreak, and there were also signs saying no fishing between August 1 and October 31. The algae warning signs looked quite old, so it would’ve been great to know about both restrictions beforehand, especially since we had kids who were looking forward to swimming and fishing. Overall though, it’s a lovely place to unwind, and we’d be happy to come back once the swimming area is open again!

Every noisy site right on the road. Other campers going in and out of the gate which is at this site. The composting toilet is very smelly.

We loved this camping trip so much. Stunning views, fresh water swimming, fishing, fires and a walk to the Clarrie hall dam was a hit. A beautiful place to unwind and re set.

The place is amazing. You can see that by the photos. But Bob is just a ripper bloke. A proper easy going legend. If you’re considering booking this place; just do it.
