Julie was a lovely lady and was very hospitable and understanding. She brought us pumpkin soup to warm us when we arrived which was incredibly thoughtful. However, the campsite itself was not up to camp standard, having building materials littered around the yard as well as goat and sheep faeces everywhere in the area provided to make camp (a back paddock behind the host’s home). This obviously isn’t a big deal for a farm, but when you are a guest who has no choice but to set up your swag on top of animal faeces, it is not exactly your preference sleep-wise or health-wise.
The pictures provided on HipCamp aren’t true to the campsite on offer, seriously embellishing the view and the vibe of the location. On arrival, my group was quite stunned at the discrepancy between what we had expected from the photos on HipCamp and what we had gotten on arrival. It was quite disappointing as we had travelled a distance (3+ hours) to camp here and felt very much like we had been, for lack of a better word, ‘tricked’.
Again, Julie was so, so lovely; her kindness and consideration toward us and her willingness to accept us to stay on her property was amazing, and if I could leave a separate review for her hospitality I would in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, this is just one of those things that I couldn’t in good conscience leave unsaid about the campsite itself.
