clear easy directions to the camp. great location flat area for the van so setup was easy. nice view over the town of Gloucester. the house were very friendly i had to get them a bag of carrots.

Such a peaceful and private spot — the kind of place where you can truly take a long, deep breath. Beautifully maintained, with a fantastic fireplace overlooking the valley. The hosts were friendly and communication was excellent.

Old Man's Rest Campsite at The Big Rock
Lorna and Allan have provided a really unique experience on their beautiful property just outside of Gloucester township. They have created a flat grassed space overlooking a stunning view of the valley and hills beyond. Nothing was too much trouble and we thank them for their care and hospitality. Highly recommend.

Allan and Lorna have a beautifully presented campsite with fabulous views over the nearby town. The site was has a great combination of privacy and outlook just a couple of minutes from town. I highly recommend Old Man’s Rest campsite.

Old Man's Rest Campsite at The Big Rock
We loved staying at Lorna and Allen’s farm. What a spectacular spot to pull up for a night! Breathtaking views from a beautifully maintained patch of level grass with a bench and fire pit. Well worth the hike up the cliff if you’re up for a scramble to get an amazing Birds Eye view of your camp setup and the entire Gloucester valley. Lorna and Allen were incredibly friendly welcoming us to the site and then giving us space to enjoy the views in privacy. 10/10!

Old Man's Rest Campsite at The Big Rock
This place is a delight!! It’s serene peaceful private and has the most incredible views. Allan and Lorna couldn't do enough for us even prepped the fire in the pit for us! There are animals to talk to but because the camping area is fenced you are separate from them. The grass is so soft we didn’t get out mat out! A Truly magical get away from it all spot yet we were able to walk into Gloucester. We have a 16ft van and access was easy. We will be stopping here again ☺️

Allan and Lorna are fantastic. Very welcoming and friendly. What a beautiful spot! Allan showed us the route to climb the mountain behind the camp spot where the views are spectacular. Amazing fire pit. Perfect setting amongst the horses and cows (over the fence). Wish we could have stayed longer.

Although we were washed out due to torrential rain, Lorna and Allan kindly arranged an alternative wet weather campsite in Morpeth for us. We can’t wait to return and enjoy ‘Plan A’ at their property!

Old Man's Rest Campsite at The Big Rock
Lorna & Allan are really nice genuine people who were fantastic hosts. Willing to go above and beyond if there’s anything you need while staying.
The view looking over Gloucester and the mountains on a sunrise or sunset is amazing.
The horses are a real hit for kids our 5 year old daughter couldn’t get enough of them.
Perfect for a quiet retreat with family or friends.
Highly recommend and we can’t wait to stay again soon.

The most beautiful spot, every morning was just more stunning. Campsite was clean and well maintained.

Old Man's Rest Campsite at The Big Rock
This is one of the best Hipcamp’s we have visited. That’s a big statement, but it’s made for a number of reasons.
Firstly Lorna and Allan were fantastic hosts who were super responsive, a pleasure to deal (and chat) with.
Secondly the site is maintained at the highest of standards right down to Allan making some adjustments to the fantastic fire pit, to help keep the wind out.
Thirdly, the location of this site is 1st class with spectacular views of the entire town one side and the mountains on the other. Be sure to ask Allan for a history lesson!
Fourth is the pricing. There is a sweet spot for us which is under the $50 mark which makes it an acceptable expense over free camping. Another tick
Fifth, whilst you feel you are in a rural setting with the view and peace and quiet, town for supplies, dump point, water, cafes, is just a couple of klm away.
Sixth, no need for the Starlink here. Full mobile reception.
We will definitely be back. Not just for a weekend stay but also a longer stay as well.
