Cranky Rock was the perfect quick weekend get away. Far enough away from the city but close enough that you can duck back to Cessnock if needed. We snagged the ideal spot in camp with dappled shade throughout the day. Although the toilets are non flushing they are clean and accessible. Pam came to check on us when we arrived and other than that we were left to enjoy the peace and quiet.

We loved camping at Cranky Rock. The view was absolutely breathtaking. Plenty of space between us and other happy campers. The toilet facilities were the cleanest drop pits I've ever seen. We both needed a peaceful place to unwind and rejuvenate and this place is exactly that! We will return again. Thank you Pam and Lindsay

I found this place to be unwelcoming. The energy of the place - the long list of rules - and general vibe from the hosts was kinda off. It was ok for a night, as I was just stopping through while travelling to nsw. There is a road right near the first 3 campsites, so the sound of cars going by is a little disturbing at times (depending on how sensitive one is to sound and cars). I suggest the owners make little fire pits, if they have had problems with people lighting fires on the ground. The little toilets they have there on the property are very well made and kept.

Had a wonderful stay and Lindsay and Pam’s property. So peaceful and Lindsay and Pam were lovely.
We stayed on site 1. Perfect for our caravan and under a lovely big tree.
There is an open air shower and composting toilets.
Just a short drive from Wollombi for coffee store.
Would definitely return.

The Cranky Rock campsite is a beautiful spot with great facilities. Lindsay and Pam are friendly and welcoming hosts - who even woke up early and graciously helped us get our van unstuck from the creek crossing. I couldn't recommend this site more highly.

Loved our time at Cranky Rock, Lindsay and Pam were lovely and obviously work very hard to maintain everything. Even though it was a busy long weekend, there was plenty of space to spread out and explore. We enjoyed our time here very much and will keep Cranky Rock saved for future trips

Lovely place to camp with my group of friends last minute on the long weekend for a very reasonable price! The location was great as it wasn't too far from a town and the owners were lovely and a great help! There was lovely views.

A well set up camp with drop toilets and a bush shower for those who need facilities.
We went on a long weekend and it was a little more crowded than I had expected, but everyone was respectful of other campers and no excessive late night noise. I’d go again especially for the location just 7 mins from Wollombi and about half an hour to Pokolbin and the Hunter Valley wineries!

A beautiful farm with great views. The hosts were kind, as evidenced by a couple of interactions we had with them. But if you stay for longer than a night and need to take a shower, that's not very handy. The facility is basic, and honestly, if I were the host, I would remove that from the facility listing in wikicamp. If you stay short, that's a great site to camp.

We had a really good time. Quite expensive for what you get given you're effectively just camping in a paddock with no shade, a long walk to the showers and no bins etc. but toilets were very well looked after, the hosts were lovely and the animals very friendly.

Second stay at Cranky and just as good as the first.
We had the place to ourselves.
Lots of open space and clean toilets, what more could you ask for?
Not too far from the Wineries if that is your thing.
Tip, go right when you enter in though the main gates from the road to use the bridge to cross the river. Left is a river crossing, I did this as I was towing a trailer, bridge would be a bit tight for me.

Overall, our stay at this campsite was just okay. The directions provided were clear, but we never saw the host and couldn’t get in touch due to no reception. While there was a strict no fire-on-ground policy, the option to hire fire pits wasn’t much use without a way to book once on-site, which was a shame on such a cold night. The campsite is also close to Wollombi Rd, so traffic noise was noticeable. In our view, there were plenty of rules and regulations but very little presence or support from the host.

View was absolutelt stunning. Noone around us, very quiet and isolated area which we enjoyed as a group. People in local towns were very kind to us, with lots of wineries and bars around too

Our first time off grid camping in our new van was fantastic at Cranky Rock. So much space in the paddock and the cows and horses were fascinating to the dog. The property was lovely, full moon, so many stars and the sun was so warm during the day. Went to Wollombi and explored, which is such a lovely town, amazing food. Drop toilets every paddock available for use, BYO toilet paper. Would definitely come back with friends, well worth a visit.

Nice valley with mists rolling in around sunset. Very cold in winter. Drop toilet satisfactory and very accessible. We didn’t use the shower facility
as it was located a long way from campsite 4
The owners responded well to a medical emergency but I was disappointed in their dismissal of an injured wild animal on their property. It was left to suffer.
Follow up phone call regarding the medical emergency from owners was appreciated.

Directions were super clear. Beautiful spot, nice and open, long drop toilet was well maintained and had no issues. You can hear some road noise but overall it was a good spot.

We were lucky to find this campground last minute, and it turned out to be a lovely spot in a fantastic location. It was easy to get to and not very crowded, which was perfect. The only downside was the toilet facilities. There weren’t enough to accommodate the large number of people of the campground was full, and they were poorly maintained. Given that it was a long weekend, we expected better management of this aspect.

Lovely peaceful place to camp. Friendly hosts... toilets cleaned daily (we brought our own porta-loo but other campers commented on how well the toilets were maintainer).

We had a fantastic weekend camping at *Cranky Rock*! The campsites are spacious and thoughtfully laid out, giving you plenty of room and privacy from other campers. The toilets were clean and conveniently located throughout the property.
While the shower wasn’t accessible during our stay, it didn’t take away from the overall experience. It’s clear that a lot of care goes into maintaining the grounds.
We loved the friendly cows and their calves, and even spotted a sleepy wombat.
Another big plus is the location — only 10 minutes from Wollombi Tavern, which is perfect for an arvo beer or a meal out.
A special thank you to Pam and Lindsay, who were both incredibly friendly and welcoming. They greeted us on arrival and kindly guided us to our site, making everything easy and stress-free.
Would absolutely recommend Cranky Rock to anyone looking for a peaceful and well-kept camping spot. Thanks again for a lovely weekend!
