This 3.5 acres of woodlot, situated in "Cottage Country" Nova Scotia is home to my canvas wall tent and a couple of sites for pitching tents. The tent is cozy and has a woodstove for 4 season enjoyment, mattresses for single or double bed configuration. This is part of "Cottage Country" and there are plenty of trails to hike or ski. There is lake access, but it isn't a great lake for swimming.

The best camping in Cape Chignecto Provincial Park, NS guide

Overview

About

Embark on an adventure at Cape Chignecto Provincial Park, where the wilds of Nova Scotia beckon the brave and the bold. With 52 km of challenging coastal trails, this park is a hiker's haven, offering a variety of backcountry and walk-in campsites. From the scenic vistas at every turn to the serene kayak-accessible spots, Cape Chignecto is the ultimate destination for those seeking to immerse themselves in nature's grandeur.

Notable campgrounds

  • Backcountry Campsites (Hike-in): Nestled along the coastal trail, these sites offer a true wilderness experience for the fit and prepared adventurer.
  • Walk-in Campsites at New Yarmouth: Easily accessed with centralized facilities, these sites provide a more secluded camping experience with essential comforts.
  • Kayak Campsites: Accessible by water, these beachside campsites at Refugee and Seal Cove offer a unique overnight stay for kayaking enthusiasts.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  • Book early, especially for peak season dates, as Cape Chignecto's unique campsites are in high demand.
  • For backcountry sites, ensure you select the appropriate reservation type such as 'Backcountry Hiking' or 'Backcountry Kayaking' when booking online.
  • Call the park directly at (902) 392-2085 for group campsite reservations, and do so promptly after May 20th.
  • Explore nearby camping options if your preferred site is unavailable, as the park's diverse offerings may have alternatives that suit your needs.

When to go

The best time to visit Cape Chignecto Provincial Park is between May 19 and October 9, when the park is fully operational. The summer months offer the warmest weather for hiking and camping, while the fall brings a stunning display of autumn foliage. Off-season visits can be challenging due to limited services and unpredictable weather.

Know before you go

  • Check-in for your adventure begins at 2pm, and you must bid the wilderness farewell by 11am on your departure day.
  • Prepare for physically demanding trails by ensuring you are fit and equipped for backcountry conditions.
  • Remember to pack out all garbage from backcountry sites, and use waste sorting and recycling containers near the park entrance.
  • For your safety, approach cliffs only at designated viewing areas, as the terrain can be unstable.
  • Always boil, filter, or treat water before consumption to avoid any health risks.
