Thistlebank Estate is a peaceful, leafy property on the outskirts of Mount Barker WA. Overlooking a picturesque lake and surrounded by new and old trees, this property is a tranquil haven with easy access to town, the Porongurups, Albany and Denmark.
Properties like this are few and far between and we want to share our piece of paradise with people that appreciate nature and peace.
Thistlebank Estate Hipcamp currently offers two sites, separate to the main property - a caravan / RV site at the lake facing east and a tent / camper trailer site at the lake facing north.
As an eco-friendly site, guests are required to leave no trace and cause minimal disruption to the local wildlife and flora. No services are provided so BYO toilet, water and power.
Small groups and indoor pets will be considered upon request.

Twisted Willow is a 15-acre property situated approx 3.5km from Albany city centre and approximately 3.5- 4 km to Middleton Beach and Emu Point.
The property is on the lower side of Ulster rd. It is a shared driveway so please turn left into 219 not right as this is the neighbours ... drive down the driveway past the 3 cottages and parkup on the left hand side of property. Please do not drive on the lower grassed area.
We currently run self-contained cottages on the property, although we have a lovely spot in the far corner of the property that we can offer for a fully self-contained caravan or RV.
The site offers these guests views of a large lake equipped with kayaks, a paddleboat, and 6 acres of landscaped grounds.
This central but peaceful location allows you to enjoy everything that Albany offers; Beaches, amazing hiking, history, fishing, bike riding, and more.

This was my kids (14, 11) favourite place to stay on our WA road trip. The setting is beautiful with a small artificial lake surrounded by green lawn which was perfect for our hired motorhome. My kids had fun on the paddle boats and kayaks. It’s just on the edge of town so super easy to get places. Note - when you arrive you need to look out for the sign that says Twisted Willow Cabins, which is hard to see from the road and once through the entry take the driveway to the left.

One of our favourite hipcamps we have been to. Right on the waters edge, our girls loved being able to run around and go in the water as they please!

On our arrival the camp hosts were not around so there was some confusion of where we were supposed to set up camp. Another person was most helpful so we were told the extents of where we could camp so all worked out well.
Where we were located is private property, although around the other side is the reserve. Here, you are able to take part in water skiing activities where some here had no concern for others as they were water skiing from around 5am on New Years Day 2026.
It’s fair to note it can be quite windy in the morning and late afternoon. At this time of year there were swarms of midges, so make sure you are prepared.
Apart from the above, if we were in this area again, would stay here again and would recommend.

A beautiful sanctuary, that was just want our family needed. Between the beautiful birds, the sunrise over the little lake in the morning and the manicured gardens I could not fault the location.

Weekend Trip to Twisted Willow
Like camping in a private garden, so lush and green, with the cutest lake. Quite central in Albany, yet relatively quiet and serene.
The most prominent noise is from the pack of barking dogs in the neighboring house.
