Famed for its free-roaming penguins and the country’s largest colony of fur seals, the island is also home to the Phillip Island Wildlife Park, with more than 100 different species of native animals, as well as a koala conservation center. You’ll also find a dramatic coastline with beaches perfect for swimming and surfing. Many travelers visit on a day trip from Melbourne, but by setting up camp for a night or more, you’ll get to enjoy all the island has to offer.

The sites are located on four areas and different level areas for self contained caravans or tenting. This is a private area that is sheltered from strong winds and you are able to have a small camp fire barbeque. Your site is well secure to be able t o leave if you wish to travel around the beautiful South Gippsland area. We are only 3.9 kms from the beautiful charming town of Mirboo North with all facilities available in the picturesque Strzelecki Ranges. Discover country hospitality, A dip in the newly built swimming pool is a must for families on the warmer days The Lyrebird Forest Walk is a pretty half hour bushwalk or a longer walk and a river walk that is on the north entry to the town with lots of seating available which are all named after volunteers that have created these walks There is also the rail trail which follows the old railway line all the way to Boolarra and the Morwell River Falls a short drive from Boolarra The Naracan falls is on the way to Thorpedale Head for the hills to Walhalla old mining town and steam train rides Willow grove and the Blue Rock Dam makes for a pretty drive to north in the hills You are only 45 min drive to the coast of Inverloch and Tarwin Lower Waratah Wineries.... and follow the South Gippsland highway all the way to the very pretty towns of the Meeniyan, Foster, Toora, Agnus Water Falls, Port Welshpool, historic Port Albert, Yarram, Woodside and the ninety mile beach, Tarra Bulga National Park, enjoying lovely views of the coast on the way. It is desirable for you to be self contained .. for those that don,t understand what self contained means.... You will need Your own porta potti and tent. Situated in West Gippsland, Casa Cucina is a feast for the senses from the alpine majesty of the Baw Baw Plateau, the Bunyip State Forest, the lush green valleys, to the rivers and streams… there is always something to do in West Gippsland for the curious. Other attractions in the area are Gumbuya World, Nangara Reserve, Noojee and Neerim South, PLUS of course the wineries. The Tarago River backs onto our small yet spacious, open yet shaded space. The river is shallow for paddling, as well as ‘swimmable’ (at your own risk), a lovely spot to cool off on our warm summer days, or a mesmerising place to sit, watch, read, contemplate, draw or write. Some large old Mountain Ash remain along the river bank, with lots of new plantings. It is not uncommon to see an echidna, a variety of stunning birdlife, and on dusk, maybe a wombat family. We also host a family of platypus if you are very quiet. Our river block can hold up to 4 caravans (under 10 metres) and a couple of tents in one group (one booking). In addition, the upper adjoining block can accommodate 2 caravans (enquire for this option). This is a single group occupancy site so you can enjoy the privacy of your group. If you wish to hook into our powered site, please add $10 per night, per van. All campers will also have access to our Casa Cucina gorgeous eclectic, quirky community space to sit in out of the weather. Please note: This is not an accommodation space. Chris's place by the river is beautiful. The sound of the river and the birds was breathtaking. The grounds were extremely neat and tidy and the little hut was very quirky and interesting. We sat in there one afternoon when it got quite windy so it was very handy. Chris was very quick responding to any communication and very friendly.

Weekend Trip to Tonimbuk Farm
The campsite was big enough for our group with 4 tents and three cars. Robert was so generous, providing us firewood, power, a floodlight and he let us stay in the shed as it was non-stop rain. He checked in with us frequently to make sure we were okay. Reception is very limited. Two friendly dogs kept us company.

the spot was very lovely, and a great distance from any local towns. it feels far away enough to be isolated but also just 20 minute drive if you wanna grab some food or supplies. jana is also a great host and very personable and friendly. would definitely recommend.

Such a beautiful serene setting, with lots of grass to relax on, tables to sit under trees and a lovely river flowing past. Chris made us feel so welcome, and we loved the addition of the pretty river house, which we sat in when the weather was a bit too windy. Everything about this place was just lovely and we highly recommend it.

We had a wonderful time camping at Yarra. The place feels calm and close to nature — the perfect escape from busy life. Although it’s part of a berry farm, the farms are nicely scattered across the landscape, so it never feels like you’re inside one. Our campsite was well away from the farm sections, giving us great privacy and a real sense of solitude. A special mention to Janaka, the manager, who was incredibly welcoming and always available if we needed anything. He dropped off a huge pile of firewood for us and took the time to share his knowledge about the local wildlife and how the farm operates. His hospitality really made the experience even better. It’s a peaceful, family-friendly place surrounded by beautiful nature — perfect for anyone looking to relax and reconnect with the outdoors. Highly recommended!

Where to go

Summerlands

On the southwestern tip of Phillip Island, Summerlands is home to the island’s main attraction, the Penguin Parade. The natural spectacle of tens of thousands of penguins emerging from the ocean and waddling toward their nests takes place just after sunset every evening. Nearby you’ll find Nobbies Centre, outside of which you can see fur seals and birds, then learn about them through interactive displays. As Summerlands is a protected area, you’ll need to set up camp a little farther away. Nevertheless, you’ll find camping areas within a 10-minute drive.

Ventnor

In the small town of Ventnor, just a five-minute drive from the Penguin Parade, camping options include upscale glamping near Berry’s Beach and rural settings near Ventnor Beach.

Cowes

As the island’s main township, Cowes is home to several accommodation options, including camping areas. Your choices include family-friendly holiday parks with access to both the beach and nearby shops and restaurants.

Newhaven

In the southeast of the island, minutes from San Remo, Newhaven is home to caravan parks set upon sand dunes. Some parks feature powered caravan sites and non-powered camping grounds, plus comforts such as wifi and family playgrounds.
