We are also surrounded by both Mt Field and South West National Parks as well as the Styx and Florentine valleys, home to some of Australia's tallest trees. Campers must have their own amenities if staying at the campground, as there is no shower or toilet facilities. Nearest toilet and dump station is 1km away in the Maydena township. There are only basic supplies to be had at the post office, open Mon to Fri, so get all major supplies before arrival. There is a cafe and restaurant option as well. We are pet friendly however all pets must be kept under control to keep the wildlife safe. Campfires are permitted in our allocated fireplace except on days of total fire ban. Located around one hour and fifteen minutes from Hobart, Maydena Alpine Retreat is close to some of Tasmania's most remarkable landscapes. Guests can explore Mount Field National Park with its cascading waterfalls, mountain lakes and ancient alpine forests. They can wander among the towering trees of the Styx Valley, or venture further to Lake Pedder and the Gordon Dam. For adventure, the retreat is near the world-class Maydena Bike Park, and Tassie Bound Adventure Tours offer guided kayaking with the chance to see platypus in their natural habitat. What a great find! And so close to Maydena, we loved our stay here. So quiet and the comfiest beds ever. Loved the option of cooking outside on the table and enjoying the views. Great secure storage for our bikes and Andrew & Maree such great hosts. We will definitely be back.

The place has everything you need, with excellent facilities that cover all the essentials. On top of that, it’s very well located, making it easy to explore the surroundings. The camping space is really lovely, well organized, and well signposted, with great hot showers and good toilets, wild animals around, power points for the campervans are very good and easy to use, the receptionist is really very friendly, my husband and I spent the night and made a campfire, we had visits from birds and wallabies, it was a great experience.

I stayed in the caravan for a couple of nights while at an event at the Maydena Bike Park. It’s only 2min drive from the centre of town, had all I needed for my stay. It was clean, warm and comfortable. Would definitely recommend.

Great spot nestled in between Westerway and Strathgordon to explore what the region has to offer. Andrew and Maree were a lovely couple. Very accommodating, very friendly and very knowledgeable of the local area. Directions were clear. They are just starting out so give them a go, highly recommend it. Their house is close by so respect is a must. The Cormarant bird in the pond was very entertaining.

We had such a wonderful stay at Maree and Andrew’s. They’re super lovely and the camp spot is gorgeous. Really private and sheltered. We enjoyed a camp fire at night looking at the stars. We’ll be back for sure!

Lovely peaceful site, plenty of space to relax. We enjoyed having a fire under the stars and visits from the local wildlife. Easy access to the Mountain bike park and the local sites. Hosts are really friendly and easy to deal with. Highly recommended, we will definately be back again.

We absolutely loved our stay in the Natures Edge Caravan. The property is relaxing, peaceful and scenic, with cute native wallabies hopping by to keep you company. The caravan was fully equipped with everything you need and very clean and comfortable. The bathroom and shower are close by and after walking past some beautiful tree ferns your entry is greeted with timber features and a wonderful spa scent. Maree and Andrew were very kind and welcoming. They do a great job keeping the gardens nice and provided a tour to orientate us when we arrived. The caravan is seperate to the house building and feels very private and not too secluded. We knew our lovely hosts were there if we needed, but they didn’t linger or interrupt us at all. The property is just a 15 minute walk from the Maydena township and I have no doubt I will be back to stay again. Thank you!

Their local knowledge was invaluable, helping us discover some hidden gems in the area that we wouldn’t have found otherwise. The campsite itself was beautifully peaceful, perfect for relaxing and unwinding in nature. The facilities were well-maintained, and everything was clean and comfortable. Whether you’re looking for a quiet retreat or a base to explore the region, this place is an excellent choice. Highly recommended—we’ll definitely be back!
