Base Camp Tasmania (BCT) is a 41-hectare bush property in south-eastern Tasmania, situated in Glenfern in the Derwent Valley. We are approximately 13 km south-west of New Norfolk, and 50 km from Hobart.
We have a range of accommodation options, including camping, a ten bed dormitory and a self-contained family cabin.
All guests have access to the communal facilities comprising:
* kitchen and common room
* toilets and hot showers
* free laundry facilities
* free barbeque facilities
* free Wi-Fi
Discover the variety of unique Tasmanian animals and birdlife on the property, or take an easy drive to some of Tasmania’s most renowned World Heritage wilderness areas and National Parks a short distance away.
Due to our driveway access, we do not recommend booking our site if you are towing a caravan.

My property is located on South Bruny Island, renowned world wide for its natural beauty and untamed coast , situated in Cuthberts Road is Homebush, built by my grandfather after his return from South Africa, Boer War around 1905, neighbouring some of Bruny’s best National Parks and close by surf beaches ( Cloudy bay, Adventure bay etc ) activities are a plenty, coupled with the glorious food available from Oysters,Cheese,Honey and the Winery, these are just a few of the available options for your trip to Homebush.
Sites for vehicles are close by to a all year running creek, paddock access with private locations, no toilets or showers provided, Council have installed a refuse site for processing of grey waste etc nearby

There are Mountain biking options in the area but just not within the National Park.

Deep Glen is a beautiful, quiet 5 acre property at Eaglehawk Neck, gateway to the stunning Tasman Peninsula. Hiking, surfing, fishing, swimming, diving are all at your doorstep, not to mention the famous Three Capes Track and the Port Arthur Historic site just a short drive away. If you want to see the coast shown in these photos, both the Tasman Island Cruise and Wild Ocean Tasmania offer excellent trips
Bookings are for two adults; children under 16 are free. It may be possible for larger groups to occupy one site - please enquire before booking.
As the site is teeming with wildlife including the barred bandicoot, we don't allow dogs.
There are NO FACILITIES on the block so campers must have their own toilet. This is VERY important to note before you make a booking!
There are good meals at the nearby Lufra Hotel and excellent coffee just up the road at the legendary Cubed Coffee van.
We only make provision for two campsites so you'll never be crowded.

We thought the campsite was brilliant. We loved the tranquility and that it was remote, despite not being far away from New Norfolk. Great to see the local wildlife too. All the facilities are excellent and were very clean. Steve and Alannah were super friendly. The recycling facilities were very good and the composting toilets were great (no bad smells!)

This was an excellent campground! The camp kitchen had everything you need - dishes, pots, pans, cutlery, and even some staple items like oils and spices. The bathrooms were very clean. The place is in a great setting in the mountains with lots of wildlife around (pademelons, wallabies, possums, rabbits). You have to drive about 10km down a dirt road to get to it, but it is worth it! There is no phone service, but the wifi in the kitchen works really well. This was probably the best campground I stayed in in my two weeks in Tasmania.

The views on the way to the campsite were lovely. We arrived very late to camp, but the hosts were amazing and understanding. They provide everything you need for a great stay; power, amenities, kitchen and laundry. The views in the morning did not disappoint. Amazing place!

The host welcomed us very kindly. The facilities are so nice. You could take a shower with warm water and provided a clean bathroom. It is the best campsite! It was great to take a walk because you could see wild animals such as wallabies and rabbits, and it was a nice place to go because it was in the quiet and scenic mountains. I took many pictures of my life.

Alana and Steve’s property is just perfect. Only had one night there camping between Mt Field and Freycinet but will be back. Peaceful, serene and gorgeous property. Do the walk of the block, it’s so beautiful. Recommend a couple of nights there to chill and unwind between adventures. Alana and Steve were also friendly and kind. Thanks guys ☺️

Up a crazy mountain road, with spectacular wilderness views, we found that this well-designed campground is full of amenities, thoughtful comforts and local wildlife. All facilities--toilets, showers, group kitchen, laundry, power hookups--were the best we have ever experienced in our decades of camping across the globe. Steve and Alana are inspiring in their vision, energy and delivery. Steve's daily dusk feeding and talk about local wildlife showcased the best of Tassie (and people in general) : teaching visitors about the magic of his home, sharing the spirit of homesteaders in the wilderness and demonstrating how to care for and share with all our wild neighbors and the land we love. Much gratitude for a memorable short stay. We hope to return again soon!
