**Please note that it's $20 per person per night. Small farm and vineyard at Macquarie Plains in the Upper Derwent Valley, southern Tasmania. The property is 380m from the junction of the Lyell Highway and the Gordon River Road. It has 450m absolute river frontage on the River Derwent (no riparian reserve). The river here is freshwater, potable and a renowned trout water, (licence required). Three kilometres from the village of Gretna. 4WD Preferred. 2WD need to assess river access. Campers need all own amenities and leave no trace. Dog friendly but please see rules, we have livestock and so dogs need to be well controlled at all times. Campfires permitted when restrictions aren't in place (see rules around campfires). Due to hydro generation activity, the river may slowly rise or fall up to 1m (often without rain) so please be careful around the water.**Please note that it's $20 per person per night.  Absolute frontage on the River Derwent. Here the river is fresh water and populated by platypus with trout and eels below the surface. Above are seen Sea Eagles, black swans, darters and wild geese plus a multitude of small birds like the welcome swallow, Dusky Wood Swallow, gold and green finches and the Superb Wren. Occasionally good and close sightings are made of the Wedge Tailed Eagle including mating rituals across the river. The river offers exciting kayaking runs and pleasant summer swimming. A riverside Blackwood shades the river bank Fish for brown and rainbow trout, play on the field, or just laze in the hammock above the river's edge, in the shade with a book and surrounded by the sounds of the river and its life. A great base to explore the Derwent and Tyenna valleys from Mt Field to Lake St Clair and into the Western Wilds to Strathgordon. We only have one multi-vehicle site that can take take one booking at a time so you have the whole river paddock to yourselves - no sharing with strangers! The campsite can fit 3+ caravan and car combinations, camper-vans or tents and, say six people per car/camper/caravan plus kids tent. (2 adults and however many kids you have!). If you have friends who wish to join you on a different date, message me and we can make that work. If this doesn’t suit your numbers, message me and we can make it work too!. * UNSUITABLE VEHICLE: At the moment the road down to the river is not suitable for the Cruisin’ Fiat Ducato Camper (or similar), due to its front wheel drive. We are working to make our access road suitable for these large campers. Meanwhile we can accomodate them on higher ground above and 100m from the river. PLEASE NOTE: Pricing is $20 per person, per night. Please select the correct number of guests when booking. Children under 5 years stay free 6 to 12 year olds are half price!

Ryelands Farm & Vineyard Camping
I loved tent camping at Ryelands Farm and Vineyard Camping. The water view was beautiful with peaceful surrounding. The site is spacious and private. River sound infront of paddock was relaxing. There is fire pit and also a Charcoal barbecue. Derek was an awsome host. He welcomed us at gate and rundown about site. Derek brought us a bottle of his homemade wine too on our request. Me and my wife enjoyed our time at the camp site.

A Hidden Gem
Ryelands Farm & Vineyard Camping was easily one of the best Hipcamps we’ve had the pleasure of staying at. From the moment we booked, the communication with the host was exceptional—clear, friendly, and helpful, making us feel well-prepared for our visit. Upon arrival, we were greeted personally by the host, who took the time to introduce himself and share his deep passion for the farm and its surrounding area. The camp itself was nothing short of breathtaking. Nestled in a picturesque location, the natural beauty surrounding the site was truly mind-blowing. It felt like we had stumbled upon a secluded oasis, with plenty of space to relax and unwind. Our host was an absolute wealth of knowledge about the local history, and we felt like we had our very own personal tour guide. His stories about the area’s past were fascinating, and it really added a unique, enriching touch to our experience. Whether it was the history of the farm or the surrounding land, we were captivated by his insights. A highlight of our stay was definitely the swimming in the river. After a warm day of exploring, there was nothing more refreshing than cooling off. It was the perfect way to end each day. And let’s not forget the wine! The owner bottles his own wine, and trust us, it’s a must-try. A glass of locally produced wine while sitting by the river made for an unforgettable evening. Overall, this is a true standout in the Hipcamp community. If you’re looking for a peace.

Ryelands Farm & Vineyard Camping
I stayed at Ryelands in my campervan, just myself & my dog. It is a beautiful location right on the river, spotlessly clean & peaceful. I felt very safe & added touches with a table, stools, fire pit were excesllent. Derek is an excellent, thoughtful & generous host. It's really interesting having a look around his vineyard & seeing how it operates. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend staying here especially if you have a large group of people - plenty of room all to yourself. The river is magic to swim in.

Exceptional Spot
WOW what a stunning spot on the river Derwent! Talk about peace and tranquillity. We had the entire riverside paddock to ourselves, complete with fire pit, ample wood and picnic table all set up and waiting for us on arrival. We thoroughly enjoyed the area as it was a great base to explore Mount Field NP and we also enjoyed a kayak tour down the river through tassie bound. Derek was an absolute exceptional host making sure we had everything we needed and he went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our stay. We would throughly recommend staying here and we will hopefully be back again when in tasi!
