The best camping near Harrogate

·

If you’re seeking peace and quiet away from the summer crowds and day-trippers of the Adelaide Hills, Harrogate is just the place. Surrounded by verdant hills and patchwork farmlands, the small town sits along the Bremer River and has a population of less than 500. There’s nowhere to camp in Harrogate itself, but you’ll find a selection of Hipcamps and caravan parks dotted throughout the surrounding Adelaide Hills, where you can pitch a tent or park your campervan among historic towns, charming villages, and family-run wineries. Go wine tasting and sample the region’s cool-climate pinot noir wines, enjoy cycling around the vineyards, or get back to nature with a bush walk. You can also visit the German-style town of Hahndorf, admire the views from the Mount Lofty Botanic Garden, or spot koalas and kangaroos at Gorge Wildlife Park.

Our property is located in the rocky outcrops of the Bremer Ranges and is on the Bremer River in Rockleigh. This site was once a overnight yard for the sheep farmers who were passing through the area. We have three separate locations for campers to choose from. The Gums- surrounded by small gum trees right near the Bremer River. The Carob- this site is situated further back from the river and is surrounded by mulberry trees. Lastly we have The Sticks- this site is behind the scrubby bushed and requires tight access and is more suited to tents and swags. The decent into camp is quite narrow and steep so please drive carefully. We are 45 minute drive from the Lavender Federation Trail which is a popular walking track in the region. We are only 30 minutes drive from Monarto Conservation Park which is a popular spot for walking trails and picnics. Monarto is also home to a Safari Park which is the largest Safari Park in Australia and home to lots of interesting animals. We have 2 toilets available but please BYO toilet paper. Sorry, no pets. A beautiful country scrub cottage with native animals around for those looking for a quiet camp. Come around and have some fun, drink some wine and play some good music or just enjoy a quiet night under the stars. Plenty of space around the camp so feel free to make some noise and turn the music up and enjoy the space as you will be the only campers around. Some tight access paths along the way however should be easy work for any attentive driver. RV access would be difficult as the pine trees hang over the track.
