Our property backs onto the Sarina Range and is full of wallabies, birds and other wildlife.
Our shed is shared with a communal kitchen, toilet and hot shower. We have a flat pad for 4 caravans and lots more room for tents and campers either on the pad with dam views or up the back amongst nature.
We have a beautiful view over looking Middle Creek Dam where people can go swimming, boating, kayaking and canoeing.
Public BBQ and toilet facilities are also present near the boat ramp at Middle Creek Dam.
A kids playground with swing set, totem tennis and zip line shall keep them busy.

Hi everyone and welcome to our home — the very special Platypus Bush Camp.
Operating for over 40 years, this bush camp and rainforest retreat is often described as one of Australia’s most unique stays — and it really does feel that way. With a blend of rustic rainforest charm, a touch of Asia and South America in its building style, and a good dose of Aussie humour and hospitality, it’s a place that feels timeless.
Four clear creeks flow all year into an absolutely stunning swimming hole, the largest and deepest in Finch Hatton Gorge.
The camp facilities are off-grid but offer powered sites. You’ll find all the modern comforts: flushing toilets, beautiful hot showers with rainforest views, large camp kitchens with everything you need (including a pizza oven and USB charging ports), and peaceful dining areas where you can hear the creek.
Accommodation options:
– Powered or unpowered sites to suit all setups — some with private decks overlooking the creek, some shaded, some sunny for solar.
– Tent-only sites on the grassy area near the main fire pit (no vehicles on the grass; parking close by).
– Three private creekside huts/treehouses with stunning views, comfy beds, and full bedding.

We’re in the Pioneer Valley, just outside Mackay, Queensland, 2 km from Finch Hatton Gorge in Eungella National Park — about 1 hour from Mackay or 2 hours from Airlie Beach along a beautiful drive.
Two or three nights is ideal to explore the Gorge, Eungella National Park, and still have time to relax.

Relax beside a beautiful spring-fed creek with a rainforest backdrop while clouds float by.
We have one private creek site with or without power, you will have the place to yourselves. Amenities are at the main residence up the hill, a shower fee per stay applies.
We are not a commercial campground, BBQ and fire pit areas setup for your use at the site and firewood is readily available at fee.
The property is located 880m above sea level and 11km up Dalrymple Road in Eungella. The property entrance is concealed and on the left there are three wellie bins opposite a traffic mirror. The front gate is on your left and has a Land for Wildlife sign attached, the gate is aways locked.
We have a 150 acre property, 50 acres of which is rainforest with a magical creek winding through it. Rainforest walks have been marked or you can just follow the creek and discover secluded swimming holes with small waterfalls.
There are leaches in the rainforest and we recommend that you bring insect repellent and adequate hiking gear.
During November firefly´s drift through the property at dusk.
Rosellas, King Parrots and Finch's are popular on the property and Cockatoos make a regular visit.
Access to the property is by booking only, we recommend, 4WD and AWD during the wet season and if towing but 2WD is ok during the dry times. High clearance caravans up to 9m are ok.
Campers are preferred to bring their own amenities and all waste has to be collected and taken off the property.
Washing machine and dryer are available for a fee.
This is a dog and horse friendly property. We have many ground feeding birds, wallabies and request that animals do not wonder unattended.
Please note that we have parasite ticks on the property and recommend that you give your pet a tick treatment prior to arriving.
We have no mobile phone coverage on the camp site, limited coverage if you drive up the hill at the highest point.
Internet is available at the main residence for emergencies.

We loved staying Platypus Bush Camp site 4 with our two dogs. The layout was ideal to give people the feeling of seclusion as the creek running drowned out noises and there was plenty of areas to walk around and spend time in the creek alone, or you could choose to cook with other campers in the communal kitchen. It was a perfect spot.

★★★★★ A NYE I’ll Never Forget at Mighty Fungi Farm
What began as a one-night stopover on my way home to Brisbane from a Christmas road trip to Cairns turned into one of the most memorable New Year’s experiences I’ve had.
From the moment I arrived, my dogs and I were welcomed like family. I set up a beautiful camp with my hammock tent and dry tent, tucked into the riverbed between a lone mango tree, the dam, and the creek (which becomes a river in the wet season). It was peaceful, grounding, and absolutely stunning.
With a cup of mushroom coffee in hand, Brent generously took me on a tour of the farm—through the mango orchards, hay fields, and along the creek lines—sharing stories of the land and its rhythms. The weather was perfect, the vibe was warm and relaxed, and before I knew it, I decided to stay on for New Year’s Eve.
NYE itself was magic: friends and family, a BBQ, karaoke, laughter, and that rare feeling of being exactly where you’re meant to be. Mighty Fungi Farm isn’t just a place to stay—it’s an experience rooted in connection, nature, and genuine hospitality.
I can’t recommend it highly enough and I’m already looking forward to my next road trip north and another visit back to this special farm. 🌱✨

We were travelling with dogs & the k9’s were well received. This place offers a range of accommodation from tenting/caravan sites with power if you need it , as well as Glamping/cabins./treetop accommodation.

I had a nice stay overall. The place was easy to access, quiet, and comfortable enough for a short rest. Brent was friendly and communication went smoothly. The only thing to note is that the area is close to a meat factory, so there’s sometimes a noticeable smell depending on the wind direction. Other than that, it was a good and peaceful spot to stay.

This is an absolute gem. Beautiful spot in the untouched forrest of Finch Hatton Gorge. Easy access with our caravan and the sites are very generous is size with power ,water and your own shelter to use. Beautiful outdoor/ forest showers and toilets with a view. We loved the fresh water creeks running and the quiet surroundings. The owner Shane was very helpful ,friendly and easy to talk to. Would highly recommend this spot

Weekend Trip to Platypus Bush Camp
We recently stayed at this incredible Platypus Bush camp by the creek, and it was an unforgettable experience. The tree houses are absolutely magical—nestled in the trees with just the right mix of comfort and rustic charm. Ours had a spacious king bed that made it feel more like a boutique retreat than a campsite.
The creek itself is the real highlight. The camp spots sit right along the water, giving you peaceful views and the calming sound of running water all day and night. Whether you're relaxing in a chair by the creek or waking up to the soft morning light filtering through the trees, the whole place feels serene and refreshing.
Everything is well maintained, clean, and thoughtfully laid out. It’s the perfect spot for anyone looking to relax, recharge, and enjoy nature without sacrificing comfort.
Highly recommend—this is one of those hidden gems you’ll want to visit again and again!

Parked van on site 9, great site for shade. Close to road but not a lot of traffic, caravan sites further down look good, power is a bonus. Shane is continually upgrading the campground and will be amazing when completed

Fantastic location, beautiful creek for a dip right near the campsite. The site is well set up with a picnic table, hammock/chair and multiple options for a fire. Amenities are just a few hundred metres away. Hosts were helpful when required but left us alone otherwise.

Always enjoy camping at wallaby downs. Care takers Dave and Sharon, are loverly ppl always welcoming.
Owners Dan & Renee never disappoint. Wallaby’s run free, camp fires aloud. My grandson enjoys it every time as they have swings flying fox trampoline & plenty of space for kids to ride push bikes.
Added bonus of ammenities such as a hot shower, and much more. Walking the grounds in search of kindling for the fire pit is always fun way to explore. Our dog enjoys her stay.

This bush camp is absolutely stunning—it’s clear a lot of love and hard work have gone into creating it. It’s everything a bush camp should be: peaceful, full of unique art, and a wonderful way to be immersed in the beauty Finch Hatton has to offer. The creek-front sites are particularly special, with gorgeous decks overlooking the water. The only small drawback is that privacy can be a little limited between sites, but overall it’s a beautiful, memorable place to stay.
