The sunset over the paddock and the fresh water lake was a perfect backdrop to the camp spot. We only stayed one night, as the storm came over during the night, we did have the foresight to move onto the harder surfaced track around the edge of the property, otherwise we would have got bogged. Would recommend for warmer weather stays.

Great place, we stayed at site 1. It is smaller than the others but was still fine with a 15ft hybrid. Grass was well maintained and still had great views of the ocean at the bottom of the hill. Easy to find and close to town to enjoy the cafes and beach.

The view is absolutely breathtaking, nice flat grounds perfect for pitching the tent. The toilets are next level, showers with a view, and toasty warm . But do take the wind seriously if your in a tent. We took our kings awning tent (quick and compact for road tripping) and we blew into a heap, a heavy duty cabin tent with the big metal poles is needed on a day with wind, we will bring our brumby tent next time. Bring extra pegs to peg the children down or they'll blow away too. A fantastic Camp ground and a great spot to base yourself to discover byfield national park, Rockhampton and yeppoon.

Lovely quiet private location, away from traffic, away from houses. Lots of bird life, horses & donkeys loved the apples we shared. Toilet & shower available. Perfect spot to relax.

Quiet and relaxing.
Camped near the big tree and enjoyed the serenity.
Make sure you actually read directions properly to the property and don’t just follow the coordinates on the map. Lucky I didn’t get divorced when we travelled down the boggy lane and my husband had to reverse the caravan 200 metres.
Emily answered concerns quickly when it started to rain during the night as we were worried about how slippery it might get heading out the next morning. We chose to shift to firmer ground but probably didn’t need to. Slept better though knowing we had. Probably wouldn’t stay there if forecasted heavy rain.
Used the fire pit and provided our own wood.
Enjoyed our first camp using Hip Camp.

Lovely flat and grassy site for our tent. Loads of space. Tap with potable water onsite and some trees for shade, but still lots of sunlight for our solar.
Views over the bay to the islands in one direction, over the valley in the other.
Peaceful location, we could hear the surf at night time. It is a lovely spot to sit by the campfire and stare at the stars.
Steep walk up to the amenities which I didn’t mind, although the teen grumbled at that. Amenities are unique, very clean. I couldn’t decide if the shower view was better at sunrise or sunset.
We loved meeting Dug, feeding the cows, walking past the chooks, turkeys, guinea fowl, peacocks and goat!
We will definitely stay again, maybe even on top of the hill next time.

Beautiful area with the mountains looming in the background. Wide open space for star gazing and lawn games. Wish we had gotten a chance to use the fire bbq, but unforeseen circumstances caused us to cut our stay here short - but what a lovely afternoon/evening we had!

A mum I met at a park recommended this hipcamp, the same day I saw someone else recommend it in a Facebook group.
Ocean views, well set up sites, space for the kids to run, close to town but very rural feel- an absolutely amazing place to stay!!
We had site 3 and needed a solar blanket for power under the trees (July).

Great overnight stop
Description is very well worded. We were in a hybrid caravan so found a perfect site by the water to set up. Loved the beautiful sunset and sunrise over the water and the wonderful bird life. We even had the pleasure of seeing turtles.
Yes where we camped the ground was un level but it’s a packdock in a great location and perfect for us.
We loved it and despite the mozzies and un even ground would recommend to anyone who is t keen on traditional caravan parks and is self sufficient

Loved it ! So peaceful apart from the airport lol but it was nice seeing planes coming in and out.
We got blessed with an awesome sunset as we got there. Love how open the whole site was and also how nicely maintained it is.
Definitely recommend staying, the water was lovely to sit by and the location is great, nice and close to the highway for easy access

Where to go
Benarkin State Forest
At Emu Creek Camp Site, a large open camping area for caravans and tents sits adjacent to Emu Creek. Clancy’s Camping Area is adjacent to the Bicentennial National Trail, popular among horse riders, mountain bikers, and hikers. Wood-fired BBQs (bring your own wood) are available (except when fire bans apply) at both sites. Book your camping permit through the state’s Parks and Forest department.
Keppel Bay Islands
Camping is permissible on a number of islands within Keppel Bay Islands National Park. Book your camping permit through Queensland’s Parks and Forest department for campsites on North Keppel Island, Humpy Island, Miall Island, Conical Island, Divided Island, Pelican Island, Middle Island, and Hummocky Island—here, campsites are suitable for tent campers only and facilities are limited mostly to picnic tables and toilets.
Byfield National Park
Byfield National Park, Byfield State Forest, and Byfield Conservation Park all combine to form the Capricorn Coast’s park area. Here, massive sand dunes, rainforest-edged creeks, dramatic mountain ranges, and dense pine plantations are dotted with camping areas on the beach and in the forest. Park campsites are suitable for caravans, camper trailers, and motorhomes along with tents and swags, although some are only accessible by 4WD vehicle.
When to go
Emu Park, Yeppoon, and the Capricorn Coast are a year-round holiday destination. Summer storms that roll in from the north may impact the area, but summers are generally warm and humid, and winters are mild. Southeast trade winds blow from around April to October.
Know before you go
- Swim for free at the waterfront Yeppoon Lagoon, an aquatic playground for all ages.
- 4WD vehicles can drive on 17 km of sand at Farnborough Beach, with entry access at Bangalee.
- Look for humpback whales passing through Keppel Bay on their annual migration between June and October.
- Almost 30 islands sit offshore from Emu Park, with boat trips departing from Keppel Bay Marina.
