Farm stays near Emu Park

·

A small coastal community on the shores of Keppel Bay, Emu Park offers a year-round sunshine-laced climate typical of southern Queensland. Captain Cook named Keppel Bay after sighting it in 1870, with the town of Emu Park evolving as cattle station owners established holiday homes on the beach. It has retained much of its small-town charm and serves as a popular holiday spot, particularly along the waterfront where parklands and the famed Singing Ship sculpture capture the breeze.

Deadman's Lagoon

7. Deadman's Lagoon

41km from Emu Park · 15 sites · Tents, RVs · Rockhampton, QLD
Our property is roughly 80 acres of secluded land situated on the outskirts of Rockhampton. Only a 5 minute drive to the Gracemere shopping centre, and less than 10 minutes to Rockhampton. Deadman's Lagoon is a large freshwater lagoon situated in the centre of our hay farm. It is perfect for swimming, fishing, boating and kayaking. It is a permanent lagoon, however water levels are affected by the amount of local rainfall and are naturally lower in the winter months. Camp along the bank of the lagoon dotted with gum trees, or choose a wide open space in the paddock. Bird life including pelicans, black swans, bustards, ducks and egrets are frequently spotted enjoying the water. You will have plenty of privacy as there is no residence on the farm, and the neighbours are some distance away. You may notice us coming throughout the day for general farm duties. We ask that guests stay out of our paddocks and only drive on the road to and from the campground. We'll often drop in to camp to say hello or stock up firewood if we are able. Campers must be fully self-contained as no facilities or drinking water are available on the property. You are responsible for taking any and all rubbish with you when you leave. Dumping of toilets and human waste on the property is strictly prohibited. The closest free dump point is located at the Information Centre on Gladstone Rd in Rockhampton. We can accommodate for up to 6 caravans/campers at a time spread out over our campground area which is roughly 5 acres. You are welcome to set up wherever you like within our campground, whether it be along the bank of the lagoon or in the paddock. Please be respectful of others' space when deciding where to set up your camp. Unfortunately due to people leaving rubbish in multiple old fire sites making it unsafe to slash and causes damage to our expensive equipment, we have had to go to a communal fire pit. Dogs welcome, we just ask that you clean up after them so that the campsite remains clean for other campers to enjoy. There is a dog pen you are welcome to use. The roads on the property can become boggy in wet weather, and in the case of excessive rainfall we may need to cancel your booking (refund provided in this case).

19km from Emu Park · 3 sites · Tents, RVs · Bondoola, QLD
Our little slice of paradise is 25 acres, about 8 minutes from Yeppoon's beautiful beaches and islands, and 35 minutes from Byfield's rainforest! Situated up a sealed asphalt driveway on a hill you can see the ocean and islands in the distance to the East and Byfield Ranges to the North. With the elevation a steady Easterly breeze off the ocean most of the year it keeps the property a nice temperature, almost as if you are right on the beach. We have a range of native local wildlife roaming around, from green tree frogs to cockatoos, parrots to lizards, Goannas to wallabies. When it comes to flora there is about 15 acres of the place which has never been cleared, containing ironbark, lemon scented gums, stringybark, and wattle trees among various other shrubs. Being situated at the end of a no through road you don't need to worry about a noisy highway or road, all you will hear is nature and the environment. We allow small campfires (outside of fire-bans) but please be respectful and utilise the two firepits provided. Dogs are also allowed as long as they are kept on a lead, and are friendly to others as we also have 3 dogs in our yard. With plenty of space between sites there's no need to be worried about being jam packed in like a caravan park. That's one thing we aim to avoid. Our property is a work in progress. Having purchased it 5 years ago as a very baron and blank canvas we now have over 20 varieties of fruit trees planted over the last few years, with countless days and weeks spent landscaping, gardening and spreading topsoil for lawns. Its still far from perfect but its something we love and want to share. There is just over 1 km of smooth gravel road to our turn off, but our driveway is sealed with asphalt and moderately steep. 2WD vehicles can make it up, it just requires a little momentum. However if you are towing anything substantial you will require a 4WD. The two sites are right up the top of the hill, but still suitable for larger vans (over 20ft) and small busses - provided the towing vehicles etc. are okay with climbing the driveway.

58km from Emu Park · 3 sites · Tents, RVs · Mount Morgan, QLD
Our property "Arcadia" is located at Moongan, which was once a bustling Railway Station at the top of the Rack Railway. "Arcadia" is just over 2 acres with a nice flat camping spot beside the seasonal creek. You will be camping right where early settlers once camped and watered their draught horses in bygone days. Teamsters would gather here and collaborate to join their teams together to traverse the steep Razorback bringing supplies to the gold mine and its workers. Behind the homestead the land rises steeply to overlook the valley below and offers nice views for sunset gazers. We are at the very start of a permaculture makeover, with the design phase still in progress. Our business is named Moonrise Organixs and we have a produce stall at the front gate with an ever increasing range of chemical-free products. We have an infant orchard, mandala veggie patch, tea garden, poultry and a small grass arena. We are a kid, dog and horse friendly property! There is an unofficial rail trail nearby and lots of tracks for horse riding, hiking, rock climbing and motor bike riding. The quaint Gold Mining town of Mount Morgan is steeped in history, with a full suite of facilities and is only 5km away. Rockhampton is 25km and Gracemere 15km away. If you are interested in the history of Moongan, just strike up a conversation with Angie and she will be glad to share what she knows. Please note: Mount Morgan is situated at the top of the great Dividing Range. There are two ways to approach Mt Morgan from the east - up the windy range road A3 Burnett Highway or up the straight and steep (17% incline) Razorback Rd. Our property is located at Moongan just at the top of the steep Razorback incline. USE LOW GEAR from the bottom as it gets steeper towards the top. Directions from Bouldecombe: 4km west of Bouldecombe, turn right onto Poison Creek Rd. Follow until the end (4km) then turn left onto Razorback Rd. In another 4 km you will reach the steep incline and our property is at the top. Despite the address being Leydens Hill Rd, the driveway is actually accessed off Razorback Rd. Don't turn down Leydens Hill Rd, especially if you are towing as this is a narrow road and turning around can be difficult. There is a pit dunny outhouse but no shower. We offer a 10amp outlet only. Please come prepared with whatever equipment is needed to convert to 15amp if required. Water is our most precious and limited resource so please arrive with full tanks and adequate drinking water for the duration of your stay. We are in a dry period right now so it is hot and brown. This is a leave no trace site. Please take all your rubbish with you when you leave. If no one is home to greet you please just choose a site in the front driveway paddock which suits you. 😉 We won't be far away. Come in peace, stay in harmony, leave with a full heart.

Tucked away in a secluded pocket of pristine rain forest, this camping site offers a private and peaceful retreat for self-contained campers. Surrounded by tall, slender trees and lush undergrowth, the area feels completely immersed in nature—quiet, shaded, and far from the crowds. Bright clusters of red-and-orange wildflowers add vibrant color to the forest floor, and they’re known to attract butterflies, bringing gentle movement and bursts of color to the clearing. Native wildlife thrives here—birds, small reptiles, and even the occasional shed snakeskin near fallen logs remind you of the rich ecosystem around you. The spacious, natural clearings offer plenty of room to set up camp without seeing other people, making it ideal for those seeking privacy, solitude, and a clothing-optional environment. Whether relaxing in the shade, exploring the surrounding forest, or simply unwinding in silence, this site provides a serene, immersive wilderness experience perfect for travelers who value freedom and tranquillity. Located just 7km from the beach, it offers excellent fishing and crabbing opportunities. Guests must be fully self contained with their own toilet/shower facilities and must take all waste with them on departure. Campfires are welcome in fire pit. No pets are allowed, sorry.

Where to go

Benarkin State Forest

At Emu Creek Camp Site, a large open camping area for caravans and tents sits adjacent to Emu Creek. Clancy’s Camping Area is adjacent to the Bicentennial National Trail, popular among horse riders, mountain bikers, and hikers. Wood-fired BBQs (bring your own wood) are available (except when fire bans apply) at both sites. Book your camping permit through the state’s Parks and Forest department.

Keppel Bay Islands

Camping is permissible on a number of islands within Keppel Bay Islands National Park. Book your camping permit through Queensland’s Parks and Forest department for campsites on North Keppel Island, Humpy Island, Miall Island, Conical Island, Divided Island, Pelican Island, Middle Island, and Hummocky Island—here, campsites are suitable for tent campers only and facilities are limited mostly to picnic tables and toilets.

Byfield National Park

Byfield National Park, Byfield State Forest, and Byfield Conservation Park all combine to form the Capricorn Coast’s park area. Here, massive sand dunes, rainforest-edged creeks, dramatic mountain ranges, and dense pine plantations are dotted with camping areas on the beach and in the forest. Park campsites are suitable for caravans, camper trailers, and motorhomes along with tents and swags, although some are only accessible by 4WD vehicle.

When to go

Emu Park, Yeppoon, and the Capricorn Coast are a year-round holiday destination. Summer storms that roll in from the north may impact the area, but summers are generally warm and humid, and winters are mild. Southeast trade winds blow from around April to October.

Know before you go

  • Swim for free at the waterfront Yeppoon Lagoon, an aquatic playground for all ages.
  • 4WD vehicles can drive on 17 km of sand at Farnborough Beach, with entry access at Bangalee.
  • Look for humpback whales passing through Keppel Bay on their annual migration between June and October.
  • Almost 30 islands sit offshore from Emu Park, with boat trips departing from Keppel Bay Marina.
