The town of Monto is a friendly, quaint, rural town on Australia's Country Way (A3) and is home to a wide variety of historical, cultural and artistic experiences in the North Burnett. Monto is the northern and youngest town in the North Burnett and is situated approximately 200 km west of the coastal cities of Bundaberg and Gladstone.
Monto is one of the newest towns in Queensland having come into existence as recently as 1924 when, under the Land Development Scheme, larger properties were resumed and prime agricultural land was provided, in smaller lots, to soldiers who had returned from World War I.
Prior to the arrival of Europeans, the area around Monto was home to people from the Gureng Gureng Aboriginal language group.
Enjoy some good old country hospitality and 'tucka' at 1 of 2 town pubs. In town, you will find cafes, great coffee shops, supermarkets, Australia Post, banking, pharmacies, and a variety of other shops. There is also a medical center and a hospital. This was a great option for our family to visit Cania National Park in the morning and relax by the pool at the caravan site in the afternoon and cool down. The site was tidy and quiet. We'd definitely go again.

I had such a lovely stay at Cania Gorge Tourist Retreat! The hosts were so kind, they made sure we had everything we needed. They provided great information and maps of both the campground and surrounding area, which made it super easy to explore and find everything. The grounds were peaceful and well kept, and it was so nice to see so many different birds around the camp as well. Definitely a beautiful place to unwind and enjoy nature. Highly recommend! 🌿🕊️

Easy to find, idyllic secluded spot amongst a grove of trees in beautiful farmland. We had it to ourselves but plenty of space for others. Clean ablutions, lovely powerful hot showers and a roaring log fire - either take your own wood or add to your fee.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this cute little hipcamp - only one other camper with us, & they were on the far side of the spaces available, so very peaceful and quiet. We were coming off a 3 week roadtrip to Central Oz in our van and this was our last night on the road. A great rural view across paddocks, lovely sunset, some bats in the trees to keep us company at night, and a huge stack of wood (paid for as an extra) that kept us going both for the evening and at breakfast. Easy access, friendly and communicative hosts - a hidden gem. We'll be back for their Winterfest Festival next year for sure. Thanks Kim!

We had such a relaxing stay here! We loved watching the variety of birds, strolling through the big open spaces, and exploring the Winterfest stage. It was great having such a wide choice of camp sites to pick from. Our dogs enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere just as much as we did. The host was lovely and friendly, and the firewood extra was the icing on the cake. We’ll definitely be back!

Stayed one night on our way north.
Music festival had been on the week before so temp fencing up in some areas.
Quite quirky and very peaceful. Had the whole place to ourselves.
Flushing toilets and hot showers.
Paul the host was very helpful.
Massive tub of firewood for $20, too much for one night.
Would highly recommend.

We were able to find our own sites in the unpowered site area and we found a beautiful, peaceful spot under trees at the back. Very happy with our stay. Friendly and helpful hosts. Can have your own fire or use a communal one. Firewood available to purchase or there are numerous farms along the way that sell it. A little bit of a hike to the toilets but doable. Would absolutely stay again.

Very well maintained grasslands and facilities by caring and very helpful couple. Amazingly quiet and peaceful. The stars were breathtaking. Beautiful surroundings with the well proportioned and spacious campsite adjacent to large pristine nature area with creek. Large individual camping spots. Definitely recommend
