Relax in this peaceful, family friendly campground, nestled in the foothills of the Great Dividing Range and nearby Mount Elliot. Enjoy the 70 Acres of shady grounds with plenty of wildlife, including pretty faced wallabies and abundant birdlife.
Located conveniently 45kms south of Townsville and Magnetic Island ferry terminal,45km north of Ayr and 8km north of Giru.
The 20-acre dam is full at the moment (Febuary '26 ) . Great for kyaking or SUP. Still has some weed for the birds!
On arrival, powered sites, please phone our on-site caretaker Dylan 0488 611 706, and he can assist you to find a spot that suits you and your group. Unpowered sites can choose anywhere suitable for them.
We do have internet reception. Occasionally reception can be weak depending on what the network is doing. Generally, it is not a problem.
Bring Mosquito/sandfly spray especially if camping by the lake.
Campfires allowed. Wood for sale, $15 cash per milk crate, from camp kitchen. Please be honest and place cash in the "Honesty Box" and return crates for refilling.
Fire rings are available at the sites. Please leave them where they are as moving them is destroying the surrounding areas. Thankyou.

Due to our wildlife all dogs must be on a lead or tethered by a rope and under owners' control at all times.
Dog poo must be picked up. No one wants to step in your dog's poo.
Separate men and women's toilets and hot showers.

On the right you will see the entrance to number 105 with a Blue Tiger butterfly sign pinned to a tree. Turn right and drive straight down along the property boundary line. Towards the bottom of the property near the tree line turn left and you will see the toilet and shower block amongst the bushes ahead of you. You can choose to camp anywhere you like in the shade of the trees or in more open sunny space.

My absolute go-to spot when passing through Townsville, always a lovely stay! Even after all the recent rain and mud, the amenities were spotless. The hosts are fantastic as ever.
A quick note to fellow campers: tiny things like bottle caps or yogurt lids on the ground add up fast. Same with food scraps, they attract unwanted critters. Let's all Leave Every Place Better than we found it. Spot any trash? Pick it up and pack it out, it keeps these special spots available for everyone!

I had a great experience at Gorge Creek. Derek was kind enough to great me as I drove in and give me the tour. He was very friendly and accommodating; even set me up with a nice picnic area to enjoy with lights. This was a last minute stop but one I'm glad I did!

I camped in the unpowered section, there is plenty of room to feel like you are there by yourself, the road in is flat and good for 2wd’s

Perfect for a night or a month. All you need. Shower is a bonus to wash off the salt water. When Matthew is not around, his dad Wayne is a marvelous host. Really missed the camp fire due to fire restrictions. Lots of natural bush life. Would definitely go back
