2 nights at Hillside Camp on Bow River

Dave has gratuitously opened his home to the public. This is much more than a farmstay, this is more like a visit to a hidden paradise. 3000 acres of pristine bushland. Loads of 4wd tracks and walking trails. Wildlife abound and rivers and creeks nestle at the bottom spectacular rivines/gullys. Every campsite has toilets and fire pits and are extremely well maintained. There are some common sense rules that will protect this spectacular place for future generations and all our sakes please follow them. We can't wait to go back and explore some more.

Weekend Trip to Hillside Camp on Bow River

David’s farming campsites are spectacular. The scenery and wildlife are fabulous, incredible privacy and facilities. We loved having a dip in the river (essentially a cold plunge at this time of year), spotting satellites amongst the stars at night time, and exploring the caves and river tracks during the day. The farm is set up thoughtfully, with clear signposting and maps to help navigation, while the toilets on the site were clean and are a welcome bonus. David gave out helpful tips about things to do. It was a blissful way to spend a couple of days away from screens and the internet! We’d love to come back again.

We had a great 3 days at Dave’s place, good campsites, clean toilets, awesome scenery and walking along the Bow river plus some fun 4wd tracks. Dave is a great host and puts a lot of effort into maintaining his property and we can highly recommend a visit.

1 night at Hillside Camp on Bow River

What a perfect getaway!! David met us on arrival and gave us an escort to our campsite, giving us a brief tour on the way. He pointed out and suggested some walks and things to check out around our site, then left us to be and we didn’t see him or another sole the rest of the time we were there. We had the most relaxing time, the river was picturesque. The caves were numerous and scattered along either side of the ridge that we camped on. The bird life was spectacular. I had an encounter with an owl in one of the caves, saw a pair of scarlet robins for the first time. There was kangaroos in the mornings and evening. Fish hit the surface of the river as I was exploring the banks. It really was a great taste of the Aussie bush with a bit of everything for everyone. I would highly recommend a stay at David’s place to anyone that appreciates the outdoors or wants to go on an adventure. Our only regret was we weren’t there for longer. Can’t wait to go back 😊

The hosts are outstanding people. Very approachable and knowledgeable of their property. A quick drive through the property and you can see the effort put into helping everyone explore the picturesque landscape. Most tracks to explore are aimed for beginners appropriately. With gentle obstacles for the more experienced drivers. A hidden valley to find will open up to a flowing Bow River after a short walk. Not enough time, will need to return to the seclusion. Although there were other campers. We didn’t cross one in 3 days.

David was an excellent host! He was extremely communicative, answering all my questions beforehand, was flexible and made us feel very welcome and aware of all the things to do nearby. The campsites themselves were nicely spread apart, clean and absolutely beautiful. I would definitely stay here again

We loved camping at the Gully View site on Daves property! It was a beautiful getaway, to disconnect and reset. Dave was extremely accomodating and was very attentive. The property is very well kept and all the wildlife were very happy campers also!

It was an absolute delight spending the long weekend camping on Glenn's property! The secluded campsite offered us the perfect private escape. We were so thrilled to spot wombats and kangaroos – what a treat! It truly was a place of peace and tranquility. We left feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. Highly recommend!

David’s camping is amazing lots of space great 4wd tracks bush walking and very spaced out so it feels like you all alone. Brilliant guy and cares about the farm people and highly recommend for families with dogs who love camping.

Old Bara exceeded all our expectations. A last minute find to avoid the rain, turned into an amazing stay which we will definitely return to. Key highlights: - Well maintained pit toilets - it’s as good as it gets for a pit toilet (speaking from awful other experiences). - So much space, barely saw other people - Such beautiful landscape. We loved being able to walk around the property - even has own little 3km hike to the picnic table - Great communication from hosts - Reasonable distance to Mudgee and vineyards Looking forward to coming back

Sally and Richard's land is simply stunning. We thoroughly enjoyed our time camping at Old Bara and will return in the future. Sally was a lovely host and super quick to orientate us to their land and our camp site. Thanks for a wonderful stay!

1 night at Hillside Camp on Bow River

We had a terrific night stay at Eagles View. The campsite it self is flat, has an in ground fire pit and amazing almost 360° views. It was a clear, calm starry night we presented us with an epic night sky. We also drove the outback 4WD track which was fun. David is a personable host. He guided us to our site, gave us plenty of info on the property and checked in on us before we left. I would highly recommend this site to anyone.

We loved our stay at Hillside Camp, we stayed at both the Gully View and Kangaroo Camp sites, we really enjoyed both sites they are very well maintained and so much space. Dave was a great host, we helpful and friendly. We loved the river, bush walks and 4WD tracks, the addition of the maps was very helpful. Such a beautiful property, we will definitely be back! New name, same great location. Camp Crudine is the ideal getaway for groups and families to enjoy what nature has to offer. Located approximately 40 mins from Bathurst the camp is the ideal location to enjoy the tranquility of the bush. 4WD access ONLY Suitable for off-road camper trailers, tents and swags. Natural bushland consisting of 80 acres with the Crudine River along the boundary. We are part of the Sofala gold rush history (from the 1850s), sit back and imagine gold miners and their families camped along the banks. There are two campsites, Camp Crudine Kitchen and Camp Crudine Riverside. When you make your booking whether for 2 people or a group of family and friends the chosen campsite is all yours for the length of your stay. If you need supplies Sofala is just 8 km away, drop in and explore the town. Hill End is 28 km which is another Historic town to explore. Camp Crudine is great for kids and adults alike to have a go at panning for gold or try out the metal detector. All findings must be returned to the host, lol. Campfires must comply with the local fire restrictions and guideline and must be contained in the fire pits provided. Bonfires are not permitted at any time. We recommend campers bring their own firewood as campers are requested to source only small amounts of firewood along the riverbank. Under no circumstances are trees to be cut down. Firewood is available at the Sofala General Store. Campers are required to bring everything they need and take all rubbish when leaving. Dogs are welcome but they must be supervised and under control at all times. The owner has livestock on the property which must be respected at all times.

If you want to get away from it all and relax in a secluded Campsite surrounded by beautiful Native Bushland or explore miles of trails, gullies, caves, Flight Springs Creek and the exquisite Bow River, take some time to camp at Hillside, which is a remote 2000 acre working cattle property situated 23km west of MERRIWA, 17 km off the Golden Highway, adjoining the Goulburn River National Park. All sites are in secluded area's far away from each other but at busy times people may pass by some sites to access the river. There are plenty of walking trails and for the enthusiastic bushwalker, the Bow River winds its way 7km down to the Goulburn River through the National Park with its gentle flowing stream and rock pools nestled between sandstone cliffs of caves with open area's. There is an abundance of wildlife. All sites are pet friendly, but pets must be kept on leash and cleaned up after. Note: The National Parks conduct their annual wild dog baiting program, from the 19th May which continues until October. Baits will be dropped 1km from our boundary. Campfires are allowed when there are no restrictions. Cut firewood is available on request $20 lots, cash only. 4WD and High vehicles are recommended as tracks have rocky outcrops and some areas of loose sand. Some sites can be accessed by 2WD. The Bow River area is strictly 4WD (Low Range) access ONLY as it is extremely steep with loose gravel and rocky outcrops. AWD (All wheel drive) vehicles will not get back out. Outback 4WD tracks are now open for campers to explore as well as Hidden Valley, which has walking trail access to the Bow River. Guests are required to be fully self-contained with their own toilet/shower facilities and must take all waste and rubbish with them on departure. *Most Campsites now have toilets. Phone Service is very limited in this area. If you email a request, it may take a few hours for us to reply. WARNING: There are many areas of cliff edges and shear drops! Children must be supervised at all times while exploring these areas. There are also dams at or near some of the campsite areas that could be dangerous if children wander off exploring alone.
