La Cascina is a small property on a hill surrounded by trees and bushland. There are two main camping areas which would suite tent and small to medium van/car camping. There is access to neighbouring bushland with nice short walks available in the area. Only 20 minutes by car to Newcastle CBD, 10 minutes by car to Redhead Beach and 5 minutes by car to Lake Macquarie.
La Cascina is a great spot to stop overnight on a road trip or to get away for the weekend to relax. We have no toilets so please bring your own. The access to the property is a steep sealed driveway.
Site 1 is an open site with plenty of shade. The area is flat. More suited to larger camping setups. This site is less private. There is vision of the neighbouring property and an overflow campsite 50 meters away.
Site 2 is a more uneven surface area which is better for smaller vans and tents.
Redhead Beach is the closest dog beach 10 minutes by car.
Croudace Bay is a dog park on the lake which is 5 minutes by car.
This is a family owned acreage that brings the best parts of environmental living with the benefits of being close to the coast and a city. A very long time ago it was the site of a quarry. The nature has returned and we are left with a beautiful forested acreage.

We only book one group at a time so you will have the entire site and facilities all to yourselves! There is no traffic noise: all you will hear is the sound of the bush! The campsite borders Watagan National Park and guests can access the park directly through our back gate for bushwalking activities. Our farm itself includes walking trails, a dam and plenty of native wildlife, including birds, wombats, wallabies, echidnas and reptiles. We are devoted to horses and care for a diverse herd that includes some rescue brumbies and other beautiful equines you may meet on your walks.
The closest cafe (Bistro Eden, a popular spot for coffee and food) is 15 minutes drive, and the closest Coles/Woolworths is 20 minutes drive away at Morisset. The Hunter Valley is an easy 1 hour drive away, with many wineries and restaurants to choose from. Fishing activities in Dora Creek or Lake Macquarie (15 - 20 minutes drive) are a popular pastime, as are beaches activities (45 minutes drive away).

We would highly recommend this spot to camp. It’s a beautiful area, and Lisa is so welcoming and genuine. The toilet and shower facilities are great - you can have a shower looking at the night sky, We came without a car so she offered to give us a lift to the train station. If you want to hike then I’d recommend coming with a car as it’s difficult to access long trails by foot.

For kids; the pool was AMAZING. There is the “Sugar Rush” stand opened at a certain time (maybe school holidays?) obviously One Mile beach is right there with awesome access plus amazing hikes and quad biking ect close by. Facility’s clean and well maintained, pick your time for showers though if you want a HOT shower. Great staff, great park. 4 kids and 2 adults really and truly enjoyed our stay.

My first solo camp with my dog. He loved it.
Everything was great, my camping area was very big, a good distance away from other campers.
Very peaceful and great for a fire and roasted marshmallows.
There is firewood you can purchase which is great. And fire pits at each site 🙌🏻
Make sure to bring some toilet paper when visiting the loo.
If you’re fussy with amenities, go stay at a fancy caravan park.
Great experience and a great weekend getaway.
I’ll definitely be staying again sometime.

We had a wonderful camping stay in a beautiful and peaceful location. One of the highlights was spotting wallabies around the area, which made the experience even more special and memorable. The surroundings were calm and relaxing—perfect for unwinding and enjoying nature.

A beautiful, peaceful place to stay. Sites were well separated so it felt lovely and private. Access to the sites was a little tight (towing a 19’ van) but all good if taken slowly. Lisa was really responsive and helpful.

Wombats flat is the most beautiful camp ground, it made for the perfect stay. The scenery is lovely, and very peaceful and quiet. The set up is great, with a basic stove that we managed bacon and eggs on but took a while to warm up. It’s very dark, so makes for beautiful stars but would definitely recommend bringing substantial light to help cook under. Would definitely definitely recommend staying here- it was beautiful!
